The Singaporeans are very officious, so it would be good to have a letter from Thai Elite indicating that you will be receiving a Visa upon arrival and that your Visa Status is secure.

That said - You could also purchase a fully refundable onward ticket and once in Thailand refund the ticket.

And finally. I'm a Thai Elite member, but only got the Membership due to lack of viable alternatives in my early 30's (not married at the time, and not of retirement age).

Thus, curiosity gets the better of me. Why would you get a Thai Elite Visa for 1MB (or 2 MB?). When the retirement Visa is a good option for a retiree?

they have marriage visas I think...that also applies to younger people as well as business visas...

They are correct. You need to go to your Social Security Office within 6-months to file for continuation of your medical benefits. You are also covered for the next 6-months from your retirement. I was at the Phyathai hospital this week and all was 100% covered. They also told me my regular medicine I take is fully covered.

Send an email to [email protected] with all your questions. They respond in English and will send you links to the forms and a list of all documents you will need to take with you. You will need to translate English documents to Thai. If you tell them where you live they will let you know which is the closest office. I sent me questions on a Saturday morning and they got back in the afternoon.

I am still working through the process, but you will need a Thai translator to go to the office with you. The one in Sriracha has little or no English assistance. I went with my Thai wife.

For complete medical coverage at  yearly cost of a little over 5,000 baht, your crazy not to take it. Still not sure if you can pay by year or if it has to be a monthly counter payment. Will let you know after my next visit in March. Also wait at least one month after your retirement before going to the office.

    Regards,

    Ken

Is that medical insurance ( thai social security insurance  ) also available if i am here on a multiply entry non immigalrant a_o visa ?...or if not which kind of visa i need to be covered with this...? by the way I am married but only local style...my wife works for government ...now i have a bank account that cover accidents...I would be very interested to have a local government health insurance ( w.full cover ) not a private one...

Not a good solution if OP has all his friends in Thailand , maybe a girlfriend waiting.  That's why they are all so desperate to come back to Thailand. It's like a virus. Not easy to cure.

well ..people had set up there life in thailand at a time when even a hundret tourist visas where no problem...a lady ...nice friends expats and thais alike maybe some investments...and now when times  changed every time u go out u are not sure to come in again...I think the one year visa is a good option..even nobody know what after this one year will happen..but at least u are covered for that year

Obviously these new regulations will create a bigger workload for the Thai Immigration staff who process all the paperwork, it seems at times that they are worn out.  The staff processing the 90 day reports look especially tired which makes sense since they have to process all the long term expats 4 times a year.

well that keeps em busy....and keeps them  employed ..burocracy is rampant...similar to india ...most done by hand...same europe in the old days when mostl people had jobs that could feed em...better earn a homest little doing some paperpusher jobs rather than join the heroin trading houses or hard core strret crime ( like many jobless in Europe are forced to - draghis europe made the banks richer than governments and young people to criminals....make it or die )....ok it also keeps you busy ....but knowing the alternatives for society out of first hand I rather settle for the thai variation

I'm not from the US. Whether it's taxable or not is one question but whether is a Thai Elite member who is living in the country full time is a tax resident or not is another one. If yes then he or she should be able to obtain a tax id. If such person can't obtain a tax id then he or she must maintain a home elsewhere where you can obtain a tax id otherwise it's impossible to open and maintain bank accounts since all banks wants to know the customer's tax residency.

ur tax id is the number on the pink id card ...if u want you can pay taxes with the help of this number..it is also recocnized oversee as a thai tax number...but if they dont want your money you better spend it yourselves... plenty of beautifull mistresses everywhere who would be more than happy to "tax" you...

It,s highly possible that they will accept evidence of a 65,000k Baht arriving in a Thai bank account, so a bank account in your home country and one here may suffice with allowances for the 12 month time frame - they may accept less than 12 months due to it be a new rule. If that’s the case then start transferring now. As for the source of the funds.. if they just accept evidence of 65k fine, if they want to see an actual confirmation that your pension actually pays 65k + then a serious problem for those who receive less than that. There no mention of accepting any other supplementary income from other sources?

how about the pensoon arrives in your account oversee and here u use an atm card to withdraw how much and when u need it ..? and this pension income can be prooved to immigratiion..? will that be acceptable...? exchange rates change often a wiser way than send the lump sun every month here for that exchange rate on this eat ...

Maybe you should have a look at the news from the last days about Sukhumvit Soi 11/1 and 13.

There was this guy who had a police officer as friend - at least he thought so.

Until that police officer got upset and shot the guy.

And what do we learn from this? You might have a gentleman agreement with one police officer and maybe all will be fine. That is until the moment when it is not fine anymore. Maybe he won't shoot you right away but maybe his colleagues will show up and find an illegal gun with you. And then maybe your friend the policeman does not remember anymore what he told you earlier...

well after all this is thailand and part of the fun living here...the cop was not my friend it was a friend of a friend and it was a long time ago....cops are about many things...illegal (?)  guns only part of it...planted drugs the usual ..and a lot of other things u dont wanna know....to have a gun is useful but it requires proper training otherwise it is a danger not a help...and if it happens that u feel the need to use it and if that use ends lethal for the other ( robber, burgler etc ) ur real trouble starts than and I dont mean the legal side ( cause this can be sorted out somehow ) I mean your mind living with that reality of killing another person always catch up on you sooner or later...even this happens to security personal, soldiers etc... hope to  walk this life without beeing cause to another man's death ..a present to be cherished..

Dont go there, i started a topic once and it got stopped, its a really dangerous ground to be on, if your married to a thai your wife can own one but you ilegaly can not even if its in a truck with just you in it your in deep trouble. trust me its really not worth it. :jap:

my experience is exactly contrary...asked a thai friend he told me the cop he know akways sell automatic guns and we could go to a shooting range to try it out first..easy and legal because police sells it..
