  1. This was very true. The 1100 was pre-VAT and the 23 Baht or so went to phone and texting. That is where I blew it. I went through the 23 bought left out of 1200 Baht paid and, then, the 75+ texts started. Paid the 50 Baht for SIM separate. Learn something new every day.
  2. Purchased SIM from AIS for 50 Baht. Purchased the 33 gb, 30 days package for 1100 Baht. Used the Mobile Hotspot exclusively yesterday and used 1 gb. I was advised that the unlimited package was for a longer subscription. 33 gb will be more than enough for me. Being old and not understanding technology, I did not realize that phone calls and texting were not included. I did not understand “topping off.” Woke up to 75+ AIS texts that said my sending two text failed because of no Baht. Lol. Went over to Central Festival, 5 minute walk, and they assisted me topping off, putting excellant AIS ap on my phone in English and they gave me an extra 1gb for free on my package. The ap is excellant and you can watch your levels easily as you use the systems. Thanks again all.
  3. I put this in another thread but thought it would also be most relevant here. Thanks. Waking up my first day and looking forward to tonight on Walking Street. “Just flew in to Bangkok airport and got to talking with another American about his travels. He indicated that he had spent over seven months last year in Thailand on visa exempt and extensions. He went to the counter and was quizzed for a couple of minutes about his onward flight out of Thailand. He said that he did not have a paper copy of the onward flight but he could call it up on his phone. After doing so, he was granted entry. I had my follow on flight ready but was not asked for it. I spent a total of about 40 days in Thailand last year. One other thing that I have never seen before was that four people were having their bags inspected by customs and the desk was manned. Do not know if it means anything. They people looked like they were from western countries.”

  5. My flight, today, to BKK via Japan Airlines has a return flight 55 days later. I will be entering on visa exempt and will pursue a 30 day extension in Jomtien. I was concerned about it being over 30 days so I purchased a $72 ticket to Laos on the 29th day after arrival. The airlines quizzed me about the 55 days and all was well after I showed the ticket to Laos. $72 well spent. If I get the extension, the ticket will not be used. If for some weird reason that I do not get the extension, I will use the ticket and enter through the land crossing. The JAL personnel were quite aware of the problems with immigration in Thailand.
  6. You were absolutely correct about the airlines. Japan Airlines quizzed me about being in Thailand for 55 days and all was well when I showed the flight to Laos at the 27th day. Thanks so much for the information.
  7. Great info. In the United States, I have a “Mobile Hot Spot” that enables me to use internet on my IPad when WiFi is not available. Is there anything like that in Thailand or do I buy a separate plan for movies and entertainment on my IPad? Thanks.
  8. I will be arriving this Wednesday and, for the first time in many visits, I need to figure out how to optain the items in the title. I will be heading to Central Mall on the 14th of February and looking to set up a plan for the 55 days that I will be in Pattaya. I will be using the phone for ThaiFriendly, Hangouts, Line, Thaivisa, You-Tube and various social networks including Facebook. I have no idea about these items and what data plan will cover the the amount of data for these items. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I would like to visit the stores in Central Festival having a little knowledge of what I am asking to obtain. Thanks.
  9. Ubonjoe, Thanks for the correction. I will get the ticket just for my piece of mind.
  10. A ticket to Laos would be $72 within the VOA timeframe. Would this work for follow on flight? I would not use the ticket. If I was denied the extension, I would change my flight back to U.S. Thanks. Vientiane Laos. Bangkok AirwaysPG 943
  11. Please allow me to ask my simple question concerning 30 day visa on arrival and getting a 30 day extension at Jomtien. I believe that the answer is yes but, with all that is going on with visas, I am paranoid. I spent 28 days in Thailand at the end of 2017, wife and I spent 23 days in Apr-May 2018 and I spent 19 days in Oct 2018. Only other stanps in passport is a seven day trip to Spain last week. I arrive in Thailand this coming Wednesday late on the 13th. I have a return flight 55 days later. I have never been asked to show tickets of return/onward flight but understand that they can request that and proof of 20k Baht. My angst is whether I can be denied entry for whatever reason the IO desires like not having a return flight within the VOA. Cannot imagine it happening but it is a long flight from San Diego, California to think about. If I cannot overcome my fear, I can certainly purchase a fully refundable, one way ticket home and cancel it after I get my extension from Jomtien. Seems like a waste of time but I am paranoid. Am I worrying and paranoid too much? Appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.
  12. Looking to assist my friend but believe that the answer will always be no. Thought that I would ask the experts on here. My Friend met a lady in a beer bar in Pattaya four years ago. They have been together ever since. He married her in Rio Et about two years ago but did not register the marriage. He has attempted on many occasions to get a fiancé visa in Bangkok but has been disapproved. He, incorrectly, checked the block for no criminal activity but they now know that he had domestic violence conviction over 20 years ago. He seems to have been blackballed. I have read the Tourist Visa for United States and she does own property, condo, in Pattaya and her family is in Rio Et. At this point, any visa would be acceptable. Her only money comes through my friend. My friend is 66 and the lady is 38. He has done all the paperwork himself and he is a screwup at it. He has been kicked out of both the Thai and American embassies in Bangkok. Ugly American demand type stuff. He is one that is harassed when he enters Thailand to access whether he is under the 180 days in a year. They are really not happy with him spending 90% of his time in Thailand. Something must be in the computer as he is consistently questioned. Pay a service? Or, is this a lost cause. I would sponsor her but it seems she must qualify on her own merits and situation. Thanks for your thoughts.

    Tattoos

Arriving in Thailand February 15th for, at least, 30 days. I am looking to get tattoos, one on top of each arm. Figure about four inches by four inches for each. Would appreciate any recommendations of tattoo shops. Thanks
