  1. I over two years in Thailand I have only been stopped for ID once and that was when there was a quarantine/lock down in effect. This afternoon at about 17:00 I was traveling south on Sukhumvit and there was a large contingent of police. They had set up a covering large long enough that about 5 vehicles could be under it and it was 4 lanes wide. The police just asked for your drivers license, looked at it and then let you go. Anyone's guess on this? Maybe looking to see if the drivers license showed a local address?
  2. In the USA the manufacturer sets the model year. There is a cut off typically in August or September and cars built after that model year changeover get their title issued in the "new" model year. So you can have two cars on the sales lot both with Zero miles and identical to each other. However one was built in June 2020 and the other September 2020. The one in June will come with a title showing ownership in the car as a 2020 model while the one in September will show ownership title stating it is a 2021 model year. What is the standard in Thailand. If a car is built in 2019 lets say June but by the time it is shipped to the dealer and eventually sold it is now February 2020 and the first time it is registered it is 2020. Is that car a 2019 or a 2020? Obviously the older the "model year" the less the car is worth even assuming all other features, and mileage of the cars are identical.
  3. I have seen this topic discussed previously but I have never seen a definitive answer. Do the banks in Thailand have lists of those vehicles they have repossessed and are for sale? If so, are they online? Perhaps the banks don't bother with trying to sell direct but have arrangements with certain used car dealers to sell them on their behalf or they just send all of their cars to auction. Wondering if anyone knows. Trying to ask bank personnel about this is like trying to push a rope up a hill.
  4. I am retired and living in Thailand. I have a Bangkok Bank account here. How does a person living in Thailand open a Bangkok Bank account - New York. I occasionally want to transfer money and the wire transfer route is less than easy to do. I have gone to their website but I do not see a procedure to open a checking/savings account. I can't believe you can't do it online given they only have the one office in New York.
