BAHTNET is a Thailand specific domestic transfer system although it does interface with the SWIFT system.

    Thank You.

I was aware of Bahtnet if you don't advise Transferwise that it is for a long term stay it goes through that domestic ACH system.  Last year I used my Transferwise receipts to show the immigration officer but they were somewhat more liberal last year because of the change in rules.  Asking the bank for anything like a transfer advise sounds onerous.  I have found the typical bank personnel has difficulty telling you what time it is let alone anything that is not a simple bank task like accepting a deposit. I will periodically check the rates and if it looks attractive I may give it a try.  Always good to have more than one alternative.  Thanks Again.

My check of Transferwise and OFX exchange rates as of 1 Feb 2021, 3:50pm Thailand time shows Transfwise with a 29.97 rate and OFX with 29.78.   But that's comparing exchange rates only.  When looking at exchange rate and fees OFX would put more money into your Thai bank acct.  See below comparison....and please note with the OFX acct you will need to deduct another Bt100 from the total amount rec'd which is a BAHTNET fee as OFX typically uses BAHTNET for the final leg of the transfer within Thailand.    Also,  the OFX exchange rate shown is an actual customer rate "in my case as I have an account with them" vs the indicative only rate shown at the OFX public website...."indicative rate is fancy talk for the interbank rate like Transferwise uses but OFX does not actually give the interbank rate....they give a little less since their sending fees are much lower or zero compared to Transferwise.  OFX exchange rates will vary from customer to customer but Transferwise rate will be the same for all customers.

    Transferwise...includes sending fees.

I just checked OFX and this is the rate that it showed.  I did see that the rate went up with higher dollar amounts.  Does the OFX transfer get coded as an international transfer for immigration purposes?  I know transferwise does so long as you indicate that it is for a long term expense for living in Thailand.

    d. Now I am using OFX with a reasonable exchange rate but only about 120 baht Thai bank fee. I am signed up for Transferwise but I haven't used it yet. They have the best exchange rate I have seen but the fees for sending scale up to the size of the transfer and I wonder about the fees on the Thai side, Anybody know about that?

I have used Transferwise.  No fee for incoming to Bangkok Bank.  I just checked OFX compared to Transferwise.  Transferwise exchange rate was 29.97 USD to baht.  OFX was 29.3658.  You do get charged to ACH from your bank to Transferwise.  I don't know about OFX having a similar charge.  So depending on the amount you are transferring the difference in exchange rates could be significant.

Does anyone know whether there is another service with as good an exchange rate as Transferwise in transferring OUT of Thailand?

The only method that I am aware of is Dee Money but I have no idea about the exchange rate.  You can arrange a wire transfer from your bank however they will charge you a wire transfer fee plus they will convert your baht to the currency of the country that you are sending it to.  Their buy/sell rate for that currency can be significant.

Thanks but neither product comes up in search.

Just a thought but I would not believe everything you see or don't see on the website.  I would give a call to one of the Fascino locations and speak with a pharmacist.  Often products are listed under numerous brand names so a product might be available but under a different name than what you are searching for.   Just google your local Fascino to get a number.  Obviously easier if you can speak Thai.  I know when I go into one of their locations, they look up the generic name of the drug and then cross reference it to available brand names.  I can even give them the brand name drug and they cross reference it.

  7. I would try this.  Fascino pharmacy.  I have used them a number of times at their store locations but they also sell online.  Excellent stock of product, reasonable price.  I was told the pharmacy inside the Bangkok Hospital in Pattaya is run by Fascino.  Don't know if that is true but one way or another, I find they are excellent

If it was from bats why is it not continuing?

Also true.  I find it hard to believe that one day after decades, or centuries some bat decided to fly out of its cave, bite an animal that was subsequently eaten without being properly cooked and then the chain of events for coronavirus started.  It is not hard to believe a Lab known for studying bat viruses and also one known to have had previous security problems was studying a bat virus and a worker accidentally got infected and spread it.

    Wow....

Whoever said one person can't change the world …………never ate an under cooked bat before...

Who said it was an under cooked bat?  According to the Wuhan market bats were never sold at that market.  Second, the bat with a coronavirus is a Horseshoe bat.  Scientists have discovered a bat cave in yunnan province.  That cave contained bats that had a virus nearly identical to Covid 19 virus. That cave is over 1,600 kilometers from Wuhan.  However, the Wuhan Lab is only a few kilometers from the market that supposedly the virus came from, the lab had working for it a woman  Shi Zhengli, a Chinese virologist renowned for her work on viruses in bats,.  Now what are the odds that a bat flew hundreds of kilometers to infect a person in Wuhan versus the odds that an accident occurred at the lab in Wuhan at a location in close proximity to the market.  Of the two, I think it is "more likely" that the virus escaped.  Additionally, if the virus occurred naturally from a bat, why is it that it did not appear decades or centuries ago.

basically this is a soft misguided yet persisent western superiority attitude that simply cannot accept and learn from non western countries.

of course its total nonsense. the new outbreak in Thailand is real and just as contageous as in your precious western countries, as we can see. and ONLY bc of swift and decisive decisions from Thai  leadership based on science and not politics, a western style ravaging outbreak is prevented.

Open your mental door and learn...take off your superiority glasses.

Yes I can clearly see that the swift action by the leadership in the countries is the reason for the low incidence of Coronavirus.  I can see there is no correlation between the fact that all of the adjacent countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos share similar climates,  hot and humid and have young populations.  It is amazing though how fate placed the best and brightest all in the same region. Who would have thought that Laos has the second lowest covid infection rate of any country except Vanatu an island had such leadership.

The same is true for Africa where the continent is replete with the best leaders on the planet to fight the coronavirus.  Who would have thought that the leaders of Burundi, Tazania, Somalia and the Congo were superior to Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, and the UK. Given that the best EU country ranking is Finland ranked 107, the EU certainly did not have the foresight and skill demonstrated by those African countries.

Speaking of Africa, with your thinking there is a Nigerian Prince looking for you.  He has a large inheritance and just needs you to wire the legal fees and taxes before you can collect it.

The following maps show the world ranking of the countries covid rate.  Isn't it coincidental that they all  just happen to be geographically close to each other, have young populations, and are in hot humid areas.

Although I'm pro mask wearing this still hasn't been proven to be effective.

I am pro mask also however some on this site think that wearing a mask creates some form of impenetrable wall showering the wearer with virus killing UV rays.  A Danish Study pegged mask wearing effectiveness at 50%.  Irrespective of whether it is 30% or 80% wearing the mask is helping some.  However the factors that greatly influence the incidence of contracting covid are 1. Age - Younger people tend not to catch it.  There is a strong correlation between those countries with low covid rates and the median age of the country Median age in Cambodia is 25.6, Myamar 29, Vietnam 32.5, Laos, 24.4, Thailand is the older at 39.  But compare that to Belgium, 41.6, Italy, 47.3, Spain, 44.9, Switzerland 43.1. .  2. Climate - Just like the flu, viruses do not do "as well" in warmer, humid climates and it is shown that UV rays are detrimental to the virus.  So places like Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, all have low rates of infection.  It is not coincidental that every one of these adjacent countries has amongst the lowest rates of covid infections. You can hardly say that every one of them has governments so knowledgeable and proactive that their actions resulted in the low covid infection rates.  Conversely it is unfair to point the finger at places like Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Spain etc and say their governments handled it poorly.   They don't control the average age in their country or the weather.

And all locked down severely and initiated border controls.  Unlike most countries in the West...where the virus is raging.  What a shock.

Islands, easy to lock down. Cyprus pop. 875,000.  Taiwan 23.75 million, 4.9 million.  Try that in Europe or the USA with populations in excess of 300 million and thousands of kilometers of common borders.

These are the countries with the lowest rates of covid infection per million.  One thing in common.  All hotter than normal countries.  Or are you trying to shovel that the low rate was due to the excellent procedures from Laos, Cambodia, and the Western Sahara.

Dr. Anthony Fauci: “With other viruses like seasonal influenza or other coronaviruses that are more benign. As the weather gets warmer, viruses tend to do poorly in warm, moist weather and do quite well in cold, dry weather. …

    1)  whether the recipients are deserving or not is not paramount, what is important is that those receiving payments will spend the money

    2) there is urgency that at least part of any stimulus program gets money into the economy quickly, payments to SS beneficiaries can be made very quickly, infrastructure payments cannot.

    Screwball thinking

Why not then give it to skid row bums.  They will certainly spend it quickly since that seems to be your only criteria.  Secondly, the Keynesian theory of government stimulus to boost the economy is bogus.  If it actually worked then THERE WOULD NEVER BE A RECESSION.  All governments would have to do is do deficit spending and the recession would cease.  Has that worked in the past.  NO.  Finally, you can only spend the borrowed money once.  The benefit from the money given to seniors to buy a nicer cut of beef is spent quickly and its benefits disappear as soon as the toilet is flushed.  While it may take longer infrastructure projects provide investment that has rewards long term.  Hence the benefit to the economy going forward is sustaining.  Using your logic, why doesn't the government just print money and have airplanes drop it since that would be the quickest way of getting money into the hands of people who will spend it.  Finally, when you just frivolously throw away money whatever benefit it provides quickly dissipates,  however the damage to the economy long term lasts.  Money spent today has to be paid back or at the very least serviced by future generations which reduces the amount of discretionary funds for the economy in the future.  You are helping today's seniors at the expense of future generations.

Again as the average income of SS beneficiaries is $18,170 a year I am inclined to believe it would be spent rapidly and be a benefit to the economy.

Sure, why not give money to school teachers, they were impacted,  Why not students, they were impacted.  Why not inner city youths who lost jobs etc.etc.etc.

Which part of while Seniors may or may not "need" the money.  THEY WERE THE LEAST IMPACTED GROUP FINANCIALLY do you have problem understanding.  Their social security checks went on uninterrupted.  To call it Covid Relief is a red herring.

As to helping the economy.  The government creates "nothing"  It can only take from one to give to another.  Any current assistance to Seniors is a debt to be paid by the next generation(s)  So money given to Seniors today to spend on a nicer cut of beef at the Winn Dixie will be the burden of their children, grand children, and great grandchildren for generations to come.  If the money was used as "stimulus" but invested in capital projects like improved infrastructure, modernizing the electric grid system, and for the environmentalists installing things like nationwide automobile charging stations those projects will 'BENEFIT' future generations while still providing stimulus to the current economy.  I am a senior so sure it is nice to get some extra cash but we are the least impacted group financially.

During the Vietnam War, China sent advisors whose only tactic pushed was for the Vietnamese to do human wave charges against entrenched American forces.

I was in Vietnam a few years ago and visited the Cu Chi tunnels which were part of a tour showing the tunnels and various devices used by the Vietnamese during the war.  I apologized to the Vietnamese host for what the USA did.  The Vietnam war was a prefabricated reason to enrich some US businesses associated with profiting from war materials.  He responded that it was actually a PROXY war in part pushed by China.  It was really China on one side and the USA on the other with Vietnam stuck in the middle.

  17. You can check the delivery online  Sometimes though the seller is located in Thailand the product comes via China and the delivery is slow.  I have used both Lazada and Shopee a large number of times and never had a problem.
