Wonder why Pattaya cops are fining people 500 baht for no licence and 500 baht for no helmet when the fines should be 200 baht and 400 baht only. What a scam.

It's also funny that fines are double for a passenger not wearing a helmet. 800 baht for the passanger and only 400ebaht for the driver.

The last time I got done they wanted 800B for no IDP (had my international license) and 800B each for no helmet, although it was just post lockdown so the tea money was most probably running low?

Upon the advice of the win rider I didn't go inside the station, waited around the corner and let the Mrs sort it.  She managed to barter it down to 2000B all in on the basis that she only had 2400B and had to pay the win.  When they asked where I was she told them that I was back on 3rd road with the bike.  Still a bloody rip off but I was flying out the next day so had no time to argue and had only ridden 300m to a clinic to get a Covid test so I could transit through Doha.

I always speed up and cut through traffic on Beach Rd near the cop shop when I seem them standing there ready to pull over motorbikes. Never once have they been able to see and stop me because I'm driving too fast, would become too dangerous for them to try and run into the middle of the road. Because I don't want to waste my time and theirs. I've got my Thai licence and helmet on all the time so they wouldn't be able to fine me for anything anyway.

Yep, just use the lane nearest the beach and avoid eye contact.  Dolphin roundabout/Terminal 21 can be a little bit trickier though!

No, they don't, they normally retain the driving licence which is returned when the fine is paid, they cannot confiscate the keys and, effectively, the bike.  When they take the keys it is usually just to stop the bike being ridden away until they have issued the ticket or accepted the fine/payment.

Not in my experience.  Last time I got fined for no helmets and IDP they stopped us on 3rd road, confiscated the keys/bike at the roadside and sent us off to Soi 9 on a motorbike taxi, 3 up with no helmets.  🤣

MCs are not needed!  If the DJ is good, you do not need a loud mouth person screaming at you when the song is playing....this generation have no clue about a DJ taking them on a Journey....my God, they are so vapid!

I totally agree with you and never seen the attraction myself.  It's hardly just this generation though as MCs have had their part in some European music scenes since the late 80s?

    I knew that, sir

However your story has one small flaw - Thai lawyer. those ba**ards, they ruined gazillion of farang lives. I met with them near KSR at so-called "Council". However being thrown to IDC for unloading truck <<<<< there's something missing, I think.

Yes, I heard similar stories too.

Nothing missing at all, he was French, had a big mouth (spoke fluent Thai) and refused to back down, so the Bib refused to lose face and done their worst.  The woman concerned is actually my sister-in-law.

Who and what is?  The Met Police in London are no better. He stacks up quite well against the last Met Commissioner, who was a corrupt (in the wider sense of that word)  disaster,  and pretty good against the present Commissioner.

On the face of it to someone like yourself, he undoubtedly does stack up quite well.  However if you had family that are familiar with the under workings of the capital and you visited them fairly regular, you would see and hear not so white a picture.

    that's good one!

obviously someone snithced them, but what a <deleted> pussies are those 2!

Police can not just arrest whoever they want without written warrant or while at the crime scene. Imagine they jump into karaoke and arrest everybody who holds microphone? If I come to friendly disco and show few tricks on scratchers - would they arrest me? Piss off!

What is it "working as MC"? unless there's proven fact of money changing hands for certain activity it ain't no work!

This is Thailand, the police can and will do basically what they want.  A know of a Thai who used to run a small garden centre.  She came back from the wholesalers one day and her farang boyfriend of several years at the time proceeded to help her unload a few things from the pick-up.  A plain clothes officer took a photo and demanded 30000B hush money for him allegedly working even though money was obviously never going to change hands.  He refused and got locked up in IDC before being deported at his cost and blacklisted for 5 years.  This despite the best efforts of a lawyer.  Admittedly he didn't help himself with his big mouth but testimony not to assume that the law has to be followed in the same way  as it would be in farang land.

MC stands for Master of Ceremonies and is basically someone who hypes the crowd, ad-libs to the music and forms part of the overall performance of the DJ.  Their roots in Europe trace back to the rave/hardcore scene but are common in both the Drum & Bass and UK Garage scenes.

The thing is, they might not have known. I'd guess that most countries are not paranoid about employing foreigners. I once stepped in to DJ at a place in Finland when the regular DJ broke his arm. There were no rules there about having to apply for a permit or face arrest because I was threatening the livelihood of locals. The usual mountain out of a molehill reaction that Thais excel so well at.

I don't think that they would be quite that naive but most probably never thought it would ever get to his stage either?  The most probable reason for it actually getting this far being the bar was doing well and jealousy caused someone else to file a complaint, so the BiB had to act.  Especially if any subsequent hush money claims were refused.

If the retailers would have been discrete, we wouldn't be dealing with this right now...and everyone would be smiling.  BUY WEED HERE!!!  WE LOVE WEED!!  IF YOU CAN'T GUESS, WE SELL WEED!!  so mindless

As someone who advocates its use providing it is in a controlled and respectable manner, I have to agree with you.  They have done themselves no favours in the way that they have allowed it to be openly promoted.

Already have while checking out the other numbers.  $200M/km.  They have a lot of "brother-in-laws" to feed in the UK too it seems.

Nope, just a load of tree huggers, ecologists and environmentalists to keep happy plus OTT compensation to those affected.  Then there's the contractors that appear to be treating it like an open cheque book with specifications that make you feel like we've all been doing it wrong for the last 40 years and maybe longer.

Plus I ain't cheap you know!

That wasn’t in dispute. Yours started with"they weren’t breathing compressed air " which you had to row back from when I pointed out that you couldn’t breathe uncompressed air at 6 metres from the surface . (Wrong statement number one).

Secondly you claimed that breathing air from a tank at that depth was physiologically different from breathing compressed air from the surface at the same depth (Wrong statement number number two) . The second stage demand valve they are using supplies air at ambient pressure relative to the depth ,so is irrelevant which source it comes from. What you have quoted there is irrelevant to that point and the conversation we were having despite it being factually correct and which I never disputed. In summary it is a complete deflection to the two incorrect statements you made (the first one a complete howler ).

You haven’t a clue have you? Your first point above I clarified in a separate post if you had taken the time to read? Now I’ll take the time to educate you on your 2nd. The first stage valve reduces the pressure from the tank to an intermediate pressure but it is not constant and will vary depending on depth and the compression hence placed on the tank itself (which I have already proved). The 2nd stage (or demand valve - the clue is in this term) simply consists of a diaphragm which is is either open or closed. It actually has no real regulating purpose as you suggest. The diaphragm in its action has to be well balanced in the sense that it needs to avoid being free flowing at the surface but also avoid being too hard to open when at depth due to the extra pressure exerted on it. This is one of the main factors as to why you consume more air at depth as the 2nd stage is basically a gate which allows a volume of air through as you open it. When at depth this volume is denser and more concentrated though due to the compression on the tank (which was filled at surface pressure) If this wasn’t the case why would air bubbles increase in size as they float to the surface?

Calm down. Please don't get upset. If you work hard and pass your GCSE exams you may succeed and achieve the lifestyle of your lovely fantasy. Perhaps by then you will have matured and learned some manners

Not another one.  GCE's not GCSE's in my day.  Got 2 degrees in engineering as well as a successful business that I have been running for the last 25 years.  Provides a nice lifestyle and puts me in the top 5th percentile of earners in my country too.  So much for your so called fantasy eh?

Is there a reason you omitted this from your quote?

"If the foreigner is only sitting in the restaurant but not serving customers, not training or managing staff, not cooking and not buying supplies, then he does NOT need a work permit for this. But if he is involved in any of these activities, officially he does need a work permit."

Not really except that I thought to post the whole text would be too much?  You clearly doubted my claim and even went to the extent of trying to belittle me by accusing me of a posting an unsourced claim.  I have in return clearly proved to you the contrary, period.  Whilst you quote the above text to try and save face, it is taken partially out of context in that my original quote of. "However, there is another section of Thai law that applies to this situation which is that when this is a small family business he is allowed to take care of his family. So in practice, normally no work permit is enforced", comes after what you have quoted above and therefore somewhat implies overarching principles?

I have already stated in my original post that even my lawyer brother-in-law has said that me carrying out a full time task would cause issues but occasional small help would not, so why are you nit-picking?

Looking forward to a link for your claim.

Apologies regarding my earlier post, I was actually searching regarding digital nomads needing a work visa when I came across it and it's actually on the Thai Embassy website where it reads:

However, there is another section of Thai law that applies to this situation which is that when this is a small family business he is allowed to take care of his family. So in practice, normally no work permit is enforced.

It can be found here under the section Other Related Cases.

That wasn't compressed inside. It imploded. The pressure meter of your tank will not change the deeper you go. The interior pressure remains the same. Before quoting Einstein brush up on your physics.

I think you should too, as well as your diving theory?  The following taken from the first reference that I could quickly find:

Simply put-as a diver goes deeper into the water, the pressure on everything becomes greater. The volume of air in the dive tanks is getting smaller while the pressure rises. Remember from the basics that you can compress air.

    The link is here:
