  1. Married to a Thai ,  does an immigration office really need birth certificates of any children ? I believe a birth certificate of a child is only necessary in case of applying for a non O based on being the parent of a Thai child , right ?

Why did immigration ask for the original marriage certificate ? I read on the immigration website that they only need proof of a relation , being married , so that would be either the original one from abroad OR the Thai version . Not both . Can anyone explain that to me ?

  2. So  , is this photoshop announcement made by immigration this way legal ?  I can not imagine that  . All visa types ? When was this announced ? What date ? Could be there for months already . Now as a long stayer on a non-o marriage visa I am supposed to visit the immigration's website every day for sudden changes ? I don't think so . Why was I not informed by mail , immigration has my address .

  3. Hi all . I am married to a Thai woman . Been here more than 13 years . We have a child with Thai nationality aged 22 . A long time ago , for some reason I think , Thai immigration

did not need our child's birth certificate to be added to our file . I can not remember when or why since i have been subjected to a lot of little annoying changes  . One example of this is after being here on a translated marriage certificate from overseas ( where we got married ) for many years , immigration suddenly decided to no longer accept this . They wanted a Thai marriage certificate and sent me and my wife out not willing to offer any assistance . I remember their words after I asked them how to give them what they want , " we don't care  , we just want a Thai marriage certificate " . A long story short we managed to get hold of a Thai marriage certificate in the end with only 2 days a valid visa left .

Back to our child , last time with extending the non-o visa , immigration again suddenly asked for the birth certificate of our child aged 22 . We said we do not have that because we can not remember ever being asked for that . I told immigration to have a look in our file because surely there would not be any birth certificate to be found  since we did not have to hand that in . Their excuse was that there are too many files in the room back so they refused to take a look . ...bla bla bla. and so on...After half an hour refusing to leave the office my wife got them to accept our child's Thai identity card .

My question , is it really necessary , since our child is 22 , to hand in a birth certificate or a Thai identity card of whatever other document . We wish our child not to be subject to their erratic way of handling visa extensions .

    Thank you .

Umm, he has Thai son. Think he could get non o based on that. Think cut off age for dependent is 20?

However op might have problems with other aspects. Certainly could not obtain non o based on retirement due to financials.

He is in difficult spot I'm afraid.

  5. I have had the same problem as you have  . You go to the nearest Ministry of Foreign Affairs . Songkhla I believe that is. Explain them your problem . Give them your translated marriage certificate and tell them you want a Thai marriage certificate . At the Ministry they will probably tell you that they cant help you . After some utmost poIite pressure from my side I was given some sort of statement  , an excerpt  that I am married to a Thai ( 27 plus years btw ) . I handed that in at the local town hall in Songkhla and 20 minutes later I had an official Thai marriage certificate in my hands . Next day back at immigration . Handed in the Thai marriage certificate . Did not need hand in my translated marriage certificate since they considered that not valid enough anymore . Done . Save your original translated marriage certificate carefully . Thai immigration will probably ask for that again when you apply again for the 3rd time for your visa . Just to piss you off. You can fix that all at your local police station . That is what I did . Good luck .
