  1. Just try to make it simple. I would say be honest and then it can not backfire on you. Tell them how long you have been seeing her and such if that is a fair amount of time.

Put some money if your friend has none into her bank account and bring a statement showing balance to show that she will be coming back. Write a letter stating you will cover any medical costs that she may incur. Get a letter from her employer as a character reference. I was told there is a daily limit of 60 applicants for Thai nationals applying for visa`s to Canada. Not sure if that is true. I have heard both good and bad stories but they all seem to happen when the people are trying to bend the rules or take the easy way out with the embassy.

You could also go the serious route and just apply for her landed immigrate status and bring her over and see if she likes it and if not the she just goes back home if the tourist visa route has failed.

    Good luck.

Maybe his GF's parents need a new house? :o

It might be cheaper to build one from stone!

Toys R us in Fashion Island had some.

  4. Minburi,

how do you get out there?

A map and directions in English and Thai that one would be able to hand a Taxi driver, if needed, would be very useful. Thanks for the info Minburi.

Here is some info that will help and I am working on a map as we speak. It is not easy to find. But to narrow it down it is on the same side as the Carrefour Changwattana where I buy most of my items for the home and about 10 minutes further west.

    Pakkret Babies Home Volunteer Project

During the seventies, a group of expatriate ladies decided to do something useful with their spare time and together with a charity organization started Pakkred Babies' Home Volunteers Project.

At one time the Home had the minimum number of staff required to look after each room/building, especially in the newborn to one and a half age group. Often one baby had a bottle to suck on in it's mouth for hours on end supported by only a blanket. Rarely did these babies feel or see light.

This is where the volunteers try to make a difference. Volunteers are usually assigned one child who they then see on a regular basis. This can be one or more days a week, it depends how much time you have to spare. When there are more volunteers, more babies receive individual attention and establish a mother/child relationship.

A child who early in their development is brought into contact with a foreign face, foreign food supplements and language, has a better chance in settling down with adoptive parents. It makes it much easier for a child to be integrated into a family when they have had individual care. The project is well supported by the Superintendent and the staff of Pakkred Babies' Home.

Pakkret Babies' Home is located at:

    78/1 Moo 1,Thivanon Road, Bangtalad, Pakkred, Nontaburi,Thailand

    Transportation

The Volunteers have a generous sponsor (INVE) who provides transportation from Sukhumvit (downtown) to Pakkred Babies' Home and back. At the moment a minibus runs every Tuesday and Thursday (except Bank Holidays). With a minimum of 4 volunteers the bus can run on other weekdays. It leaves from Krung Thai Bank Head Office parking lot on Sukhumvit Road between Soi 1 and Soi 3 at about 8.10 - 8.15am and returns at approx. 11.30 -11.45am.

You can also visit the Home if you have your own transport, but please make sure that this is at times suitable for the Home.

    Who Do I Contact?

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact:

Wilma Ratanaruka or Khun Som in the office

    Tel: 023002183 (afternoons)

More to come( I hope) :o

  5. Do you have a bit of time on your hand here is a place that needs help in so many ways. Called Pakkred Babies home on ChangWattana.

For the last 3 years I have been going to this Babies home for childern left at the hospitals and such. They range in new borns up to the age of 5 years. I bring what I can which never seems to be enought but I hope it helps and give my time as well. There are some links in Google

if one does a search under Pakkred Babies home. Under the alternate spelling of Pakkret Babies home you will also find a few links.

It always seems to be overwhelming and you will understand if you do visit. The ladies who take care of all the kids always seem tired but you would be too if you were in charge of 300 or so babies who all have different sleep patterns and all want some attention.

Some of the things I bring are as follows. Diapers meduim and large and I was bringing newborn diapers but the home perfers cloth ones which makes sense now that I think about it. Baby Formula also and it never seems to be enought.

No time then just drop by and give some Thai baht it will help and they will give you receipt. Its really all up to you. I know there are many different places that do this. I just wanted you all to know about the Pakkred Babies home.

Give a moment it will last a lifetime. Be it at the Pakkred Home or elsewhere.

    my 2 cents...

I sent an email TWICE to volunteer my services to help out as I am retired and wanted something to do. but I never got a response. my guess is - the charity groups in bangkok only want young female volunteers. so, my suggestion to you is - PLEASE post that you ONLY want young female volunteers so people like me don't waste our time contacting these "charity agencies". thank you.

Why would I post that when I am not young or female? The Pakkred home has never given me that impression. Its not a charity its a home with many babies that are looking for some interaction some help. Are you even talking about the pakkred Baby home which is what I was talking about? Please do not assume and generalize.

  7. Just wanted you to all know the problems we had with Nok Air.

We called the reservation center from with in Thailand with all our information in regards to flying to Phuket and the return and asked about the special rate mentioned on their internet site. We were refused the special rate as it was for a limited amount of seats and the days we quoted they were already gone which is fine. But then the call center asked for my pin code for my credit card which you are supposed never to give out and I refused so they said to use my Canadina credit card I would need to copy it and my passport and send the paper work by fax to call center which is also a hassle as getting to a copy machine and then finding a fax machine is not the easiest thing to do where we are. So was then told to take the payment down to 7-11 by the next day to confirm ticket. Was also told that Don Muang Airport would not accept my credit card.

I work in aviation so alot of this made no sense so I then went down to Don Muang airport to their Nok air office and gave them my credit card and all the passeneger info and they processed it right away and the Nok air staff at Don Muang was very confused by the call centers booking as it was all messed up

and had to be redone. The biggest kick was we we qouted around 19,000 Thai baht for the 6 of us including one infant by the call center and the price I got at Don muang was for 18,000 Thai Baht. Just an FYI about what went on. The flight down and back was uneventful with no complaints.

  8. O.k I know the brand I will be getting in regards to Air Con in our home in Bangkok. Now I just need some suggestions on who to buy from and who does a good job in your opinion on the install.

    Thanks for any comments. :o

  9. TO learn from the mistakes and successes of other living in Thailand. To hear other points of view even if they are wrong as mine are the only correct opinions in Thai visa :o To hear questions I would be afraid to ask or may not even think of or consider.

  10. The longest was when the Asian summit was happening and Bush as arriving at Don Muang that was like 3 hours and the other was 2 1/2 hours at wireless road by the British embassy and that was worse in my opinion as I was feeling a little of the Bangkok belly and liked to keep options open as in the nearest gas station for a bathroom. :o

  11. I was wondering if anyone would care to share a company they have used that did a good job in pumping out and cleaning the holding tank under their home and how much did it cost? This would be in the Bangkok area..Sorry I should have mentioned this my regrets.

Thank you for any suggestions :o

  12. Wow working without a visa in Thailand and in Thailand without a visa. Maybe she could bring you rice while you sit in the IDC.

And for that matter when does money matter if you really understand each other and have been honest about it all. But you

are living dishonestly in Thailand so how real can this all be? Go home get some education and come back. If it is meant to be then she will still be there. But stop living this lie when you know your breaking a lot of Thai laws. I think you should do some growing up before you even consider marriage.

    :o

  13. A note to the Op

One time I was flying back to Canada and in Hong Kong Air Canada would not allow this Thai girl to board as she did not have a transit visa. She was on the way to Carribean with a stop in Vacouver and then Toronto. United staff working the flight to Vancouver told her she was going to have to go into Hong Kong and get the visa at the Canadian embassy and would nto be able to fly out till she had it. It was sad in a few ways. 1. Thai air should have informed her in bangkok(If they knew that is) 2. She was flying on a 1 way ticket and there was no way to go back so she was stuck in Hong Kong. 3. Her english was not very good and when I talked to her she really had no idea what was going on and no one at the gate was very helpful.(I don`t really think they knew the rules either)

So the answer is yes you will need a visa to transit.
