Perhaps Thailand would have been in a better position in 2023, both economically and educationally, if they were colonized by the British. Unpopular opinion but not without some validity.

Proudly never been colonised,  always independent by cleverly keeping the farang at bay. Now begging for foreigners to come and save their economy,  education and welfare. Nothing wrong with colonisation if its advantageous.  Most 1st world countries were someones colony once.

"What is a Thai life worth to the government?"

The problem here is, it's not really a valid question. It's a rhetorical question, only. No matter what the answer is, it will be wrong in the eyes of some, and right in the eyes of others.

It's a lot like asking "What is the meaning of life?" It's a question that can never be answered because it's the wrong question!

Asking "What is the meaning of life?" makes about as much sense as asking, "What is the meaning of a chair?" or "What is the meaning of a refrigerator?"

Purpose They serve a purpose. They don't have "meaning."

It is not the job of government to put a baht value on the lives of it's citizens. That is not what government is for. That's not their purpose.

Government's job is to concern itself with the needs of populations, not individuals.

So, the correct answer to the , "What is a Thai life worth to the government?" is......

    "Sorry, that's the wrong question."

It's not now...... and never has been........ the role of government to define the worth of an individual.

Very well written with clear examples and a logical point.

I know we where hoping to see the new curriculum rolled out at the Wat School the stepdaughter goes to in BKK but as the article says it was not.  The Government Education Ministry program has had plenty of time to find new books and move forward.  My view is that they want to keep it as it is and not let the students truly learn what the world truly is about.  Students need to learn about world geography and world history, not just learn about the old Thailand and everything within the countries borders.

The internet has opened up the step-daughters eyes and she readily asked questions and watches stories about the different countries.  Happy she will be starting class next week finally as she will keep her teachers on there toes with questions, or maybe they will try and close her eyes and ears and tell her what she has seen is all fake.

    I feel your pain.

    I'm in a similar situation.

The Teachers are the problem in all thai schools.

They like the self-importance and power they feel they have

Keep the kids dumb and sumissive.
