  1. The Consulate General in Boston is very friendly and their office is very efficient. Located by The Bell in Hand pub and just around the corner from Ye Olde Oyster House. The woman secretary there is great. Bring along a copy of your marriage certificate maybe if it is your first time using them and doing a marriage O visa. Otherwise you'll need at least one passport photo, fill in the form, and pay the fee. I've been using them for 15 years now. No muss, no fuss. The marriage O visa is a multi entry. Which works out better for you if you find you need to leave Thailand for any reason. Just pack your bag and go... no need for permission or other visa baloney. You can come and go as you please during the year the visa is good for. Step out over a border crossing every 90 days and come back in. The only downside is it'll cost you around 1500 baht in fees each time, and your time that day for doing the crossing. Also the Marriage O visa only needs 400,000 baht for your money shown compared to 800,000 baht to show for a retiree visa, and you can get one if legally married to a Thai no matter what age you are.

  2. Turn of events: Today I went to the house and started loading concrete, wood, doors, and all of out personal belongings into the truck.

Arguments insured with wife and her father and a different sister who lives behind the house and who also has done nothing to show bad and even likes our plan to remodel the family house.

By the time I had loaded my truck beyond capacity, father had a change of heart/thinking. Now I an told that I can do what I planned with the house minus the one room the eldest sister lives in. A 3x3 meter room.

I told the wife to explain that her room is still open to the dust and webs is still open to everything else. So they agreed to let me seal her room since this sister is a pig that is lazy to clean.

To me this seems like I was being tested by the father and everyone to see if I would bend to their wishes. If so, then, I have won.

Or, could it be that they have seen that I was serious to take my wife and kids far away from them forever because of their stubbornness?

Either way! They have succumbed to my plan. What problems lie for me in the future can only be imagined now.

I think my next move is to get that eldest sister to really hate being in my home so she will do anything to leave on her own. Maybe then I can find happiness with my wife and 2 babies.

You should still just leave. Problems WILL arise later. You are being held an emotional hostage, as is your wife. If you have the money, buy your own land in your wife's or even your kids names. Buy it far enough away as to keep a good distance from the family. Why place yourself in a position to be having problems again and again? And I'd bet once the house is done you will continue to have problems from your wife's family, in many different ways, giving you headaches and heartaches you do not want, need, or deserve. Or, just rent as I've said before in the earlier post. Renting gives you the option to move away from problems that arise if you need to or want to. Easily enough to do if need be. I've been renting the same place for 15+ years now with no problems (plus we have our own house in the village and never had to put up with this sort of bullcrap). In my opinion it would be in your best interests to leave with your family.

  3. !!!!!!The family is not interested in my money. I know for certain my wife is not with me for cash. ??????!!!!!

i was in two minds as to actually post my reply but honestly my T V friend just look again at the replies through out today they will pretty well follow the same format /advice also i reply because you sound genuine unlike many similar posts which are basically trolls

Well I am definitely not a troll and the story is happening to me at this time.

I am going to follow advice because I was originally thinking the same before I posted this. However I want to give wife a chance to talk one on one with her parents without me there before a final decision is made. So maybe she can explain my options if they refuse to let me make the house livable. I am looking into returning purchases we made that have yet to be delivered for refunds and to put a half to construction so my loss is not so severe even though the house is a mess with holes dug and bare new walls. Just walk away with no afterthought.

Do that I've bolded that you said above. It sounds like they are being totally unreasonable, the sister sounds like she believes she is losing face somehow (is she older or younger than your wife?), and the lack of respect you are getting is over the top. Rent a place of your own away from the family and in a town/city where things will be easier for you. Rents are fairly inexpensive, and 500,000 baht is a good piece of baht that could rent you a decent place for many years to come. I wouldn't go back there, nor would I finish any construction at a later date. It sounds like you may have a decent income or pension money coming in you can live on nicely. Just pack up and leave the ungrateful family to their own devices. Take your wife and kids and go. It sounds like a horrible situation you have. Do what is best for you and your family, not the rest of them. And, it sounds like your wife is reasonable and agrees with you that this is silly and stupid on the rest of her family's part. Screw them and stay away from them in the future. They do not deserve a decent guy like you helping to make all their lives better.

    Just my humble opinion.

  4. There is nothing article 44 can do for this. It is too late. They all knew this years ago and did nothing except rake in the money they were making.

Exactly true. He inherited all the previous corruption, the slavery, the previous money made from ILLEGAL things that are coming to light all across the spectrum and open to the world to see. And now he doesn't like what is happening when the world hears the truth of it all. You want to be the big wheel now, dude, try being a real leader and stop the total corruption that will soon destroy your country and the economy. But I doubt he has the balls to do so. It's all a whitewash, and he is no better than the rest of the pols who want to rule the country, and have for many decades. It's all a scam. Why? Because they all have people who they are beholden to. The corruption is endemic to the soul of the country.

  5. So this would be sort of like how the police here 'uphold' the illegality of prostitution and gambling and such lucrative activities... but with 'Thai features'. rolleyes.gif

"I chair countless committees to take care of all aspects - economic, finance, fiscal and education."

Which surely as an army general he is totally qualified to do. Such a well rounded educated 'master of the universe' who knows all and can cure all. Sounds a lot like blabbermouth khun Toxin to me, but with complete military backing. cheesy.gif

Out with the old, in with the new, same old same old.

  6. To me ..... His skin is not white, his hair is black and his build is slight ... Ferang? I don't know. What I do know is that I live in Udon Thani and I would have amused myself for a few minutes teaching this guy a few "rules of the road" if he had acted like this towards me.

I'll be taking a ride around Nong sim market tomorrow.

Really? It was stated in an earlier post that the Thais there know this man, and know he is mentally unstable but non-violent. And you are going to actively search him out and give him a lesson on a few 'rules of the road'? If he was a large strapping young man, rather than of 'slight' build, would you do the same? I doubt it.

  7. Gimme the house i not need the trouble involved with a wife.

And after the house is bought and paid for, and the marriage final and legal, a year or two down the road you will end up disappearing, found dead of mysterious cause, or found to have 'committed suicide'. House to remain in the wife's possession permanently there after. blink.png

  8. "Rural hospitals will be used as classroom for medical students to solve doctor shortage"

This solves nothing. These are students, NOT doctors. Yes, medical students, but unless they are in their final year as a resident they are not qualified to practice medicine.

They need to give free education for students wanting to become medical doctors, those who cannot afford schooling but have the brains and desire. Then, after they graduate, to pay back the government for their free schooling, they need to work where ever the government needs them - for the same amount of years as they had free schooling. Same for nurses. After they do their time repaying the government for their schooling they are free to go and practice where ever they like. This schooling should include room and board and a small stipend for spending money for clothing and such necessities.

Also there are many qualified medical doctors who could work here (and want to) from Malaysia, India, Philippines, etc. But the very strict Thai medical authorities make it very difficult for these perfectly qualified doctors to be able to practice here.

  9. Has your 'friend' been having sex with her the past three weeks she has been there? If so, and if he hasn't already 'paid' her (assuming she's a working girl or a facsimile thereof) he needs to pay up what is owed, say, 1,000 baht a day for her sexual 'services'. She will not be leaving unless she is paid what she believes is fair value for her 'girlfriend experience' services.

  10. What a load of crap. Why do so many "experts" think that government spending is the way to prosperity? Governments are consumers of wealth. Only the private sector can create new wealth. All the government can do is spend money it didn't earn by taking money away from those who earned it via taxes, or spending borrowed money.

Thailand simply needs to make it easier for companies to get established in Thailand, make it possible for people to own 100% of what they invest in, and stop the confiscation of investment money via import taxes on materials and equipment needed to do business. If Thailand want's to continue to prohibit foreigners from owning land, fine. Most big businesses don't want to own their premises. They want to invest in business expansion.

When the clueless like this make these statements, they are in effect recommending that everyone stand in a circle with their hands in each others' pockets so they'll all get rich. They have no clue about what it takes to make it easy to create new wealth to share. (New wealth would be a car built from raw materials, etc.)

Nonsense. It's not crap. When a government spends the money to add the infrastructure and other amneities needed for the business sector to thrive and the public to be able to get to work in these businesses it helps all. Private enterprises do not spend to build the things necessary to do this. Government does. Government builds the highways and by ways business and private enterpise needs, and buys and employs citizens to drive and maintain the said buses, subways, BTS, airports, etc. etc. Do you think when a preivate enterprise starts their business this stuff just magically appears? Do they pay for the police, fire protection services, and all the other things needed for business to have what they need to do business? No. Government does not consume wealth, but through taxation redistributes the monies needed to have all that you have to go about your business, for citizens and businesses alike.

    JMHO.

PeterC, if you take over the lease does that mean no rent is paid monthly.......... ever?

Still a lot of cash for a pool table and a big TV.

Not at all, a lease agreement would have monthly rents applicable but payments will pass to the new lease holder.

In some cases the rent/lease is paid up for the year. Here in Surin many leases call for an annual payment up front for the full year's rent.

  12. Phew...was holding my breath to see if the groom was a knucklehead foreigner...was relieved to discover it was a local knucklehead...

"Thavary said there were also concerns that the bride, who is under the age of consent, could be taken out of Cambodia by her Vietnamese groom."

She's Cambodian. He is Vietnamese, not a local knucklehead. I imagine much of the uproar from the villagers has as much to do with him being Vietnamese as to do with her age. There's been plenty of news articles lately about VN and Chinese men going to Cambodia and Thailand looking for young brides to take home to their own country. Also lots of news on human trafficking.

  13. Well, the first article says it was thought that 'Sam', a man looking after the condo for the owner, was thought to be of Indian descent. The condo belongs to one Briton, Martin Clark, 68. Who is said to be out of the country at this time (unverified to date). Next it is reported Mr. Clark, the owner had a fainting spell in Phuket 10 days earlier due to heart problems. Is he in hospital in Thailand, or back in the UK?

"Police learned that the condo belonged Mr Clark – he bought it several years ago – but he had returned to Britain in March, leaving a friend named Sam, thought to be of Indian descent, to look after it."

    And...

"A member of the condo’s cleaning staff said, “I saw Sam four or five days ago, walking in front of the condo.”"

The body is said to have been dead at least 3 days already.

The next article says Sam is from West Africa (Nigeria) and was in a likely Ebola infected area and possibly exposed.

"But the fact that the dead man came from Nigeria where an outbreak of Ebola has been taking place has health officials from the communicable diseases control office in Phuket to be on the alert and taken precautions."

It's no wonder the cops are befuddled. The contradictions from one article to another is confusing enough. Maybe these newspapers should wait before publishing these articles which never seem to jibe from one article to the next. Maybe get the facts straight first, rather than publish what is merely speculation?

  14. i truly still believe that the UK aint got no real power to MAKE the Thai govt do as they please.

I don't believe another country has the power to make another country do according to its demands... (with the exception of the US maybe)

This case has been dragged for wayyyy too long. Dogged with multiple loopholes as well...

I think this will just lead to a not so happy ending, so that our hosts, Thailand, will be able to save face, as usual

    Possible scenarios:

    1) the 2 burmese men suddenly "commit suicide" in their cells from the immense "guilt" and stress.

    2) the UK police actually sends a team to KT island, and they too are brutally and silently murdered by the Mafia in charge of the island.

    3) the RTP suddenly comes up with some magical witnesses and evidence to link to other Burmese killers, saying that the initial 2 burmese guys were threatened by them to the scapegoats.

"i truly still believe that the UK aint got no real power to MAKE the Thai govt do as they please.

I don't believe another country has the power to make another country do according to its demands... (with the exception of the US maybe)"

Actually they do have some weapons in their diplomatic arsenal. They can threaten to shut down British tourism to Thailand. Brits make up a large chunk of the westerners going to Thailand to holiday. Much the same way the Americans closed down Americans visitng Burma/Myanmar for years by making it illegal to travel there. I doubt the Thais would like a boycott by this large of a tourist segment that would affect their income, especially with the recent news that the tourism industry here is taking a big loss of tourism due to the martial law still being in place (up to 20 to 30 % I just read today. Threatening to hit them in the pocketbook may have an effect on how the Thais respond to these 'requests' from the British government. Hit them where it will hurt them the most, or at least play hardball and make the threat and see what the response is.

  15. This thread has turned into Thai bashing...

I have bought roses from children...I will never miss a few baht...some destitute family may have food on the table because of their child selling roses...

Nobel thought however you miss the point. These children are being exploited both by their parents and by their local handlers. This is no life for a child. Furthermore, the family's may be able to put a humble meal on the table while the handlers drive around in their luxury cars.

This is a real and internationally recognized problem with child labor and you feel that this is Thai Bashing. It is what it is.... disgraceful.

The actual point here is that this has been going on for decades or more. And the Thai police and government has allowed it to all this time. The police take bribes from these trafficked children's 'handlers' to allow them to do so. It is blatantly obvious and a disgrace that it has been allowed all along due to a corrupt Thai society that seems not to care. It's good to see the police doing something now, but I have seen these 'crackdowns' many many times over the years here, and it always returns to the status quo after a few weeks or months. Though the cost for the bribes goes up, and it just continues on as before. Same as it ever was. It's the same with the beggars. It's an industry.

  16. PRAYUT'S SUCCESSOR

New Army chief vows no coup

Outgoing Army chief General Prayut Chan-o-cha and new chief General Udomdej Sitabutr receive a salute at the hand-over of his post to Udomdej at Army headquarters yesterday.

Udomdej promises to maintain peace; defend monarchy

BANGKOK: -- NEWLY APPOINTED Army chief General Udomdej Sitabutr vowed yesterday there would be no military coup to oust the Prayut Chan-o-cha administration.

"There won't be [a coup], be it by those [in power] now or in the future. The commanders have a common understanding and everyone is moving in the same direction," he said.

Udomdej made the remark in reply to reporters' questions following the hand-over ceremony at Army headquarters in Bangkok yesterday.

The new commander, who assumes the position today, said the Army would continue to serve as a main base for maintaining peace and order and would defend the monarchy institution and try to end the conflict in the deep South.

"I am ready to continue the task and deal with threats of all forms that are becoming more complex and broad as well as preparing [the Army] into becoming a strong Army for Asean," said Udomdej, adding that winning the trust of the public would also be an objective, along with fostering national unity and stability.

On the restive three southernmost provinces, the new Army chief said the struggle to maintain peace in the area was already a decade old. The outgoing Army chief and Prime Minister Prayut had assigned him with the task of restoring peace - or at least reducing the level of violence - in the area.

"We used to try to win [the hearts] of all villages but from now on we will make people in the three-border provinces feel they're not fighting with anyone. We shall make peace in the villages and when the villages are peaceful, the districts and provinces shall become peaceful as well," Udomdej said.

"We will try to make understanding through talking with all groups. This is what I will do more in parallel [with other approaches]," he said, adding that he was confident such a strategy would work if all parties cooperate. "Come and talk with us if you have something to say or something that you wish to do. We shall support things that are right and in accordance with the constitution."

In regard to maintaining peace and order nationwide, the new Army chief said the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) would continue to exist and play its role, as well as continuing to support the government.

Prayut, meanwhile, said he was confident the new Army chief would be able to carry out the tasks, including modernising of the Army.

  17. Written warnings for a start. You can't fire them without a payout, so be prepared to give them their dues.

What sort of work are they doing? Does their tardiness affect the business? Are they male or female (We have found women are usually more responsible employees). How late are they? A few minutes, or more than that? As someone else said, WHY are they late? What is their excuse for this? Have you sat them down and talked with them and discussed their tardiness?

Let's hope the commanders are investigated themselves first.

Air Force Orders Probe Into 'Naked Singer Party'

    By Khaosod English

Troops from the Royal Thai Air Force arriving to protect the temporary office of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, 4 February 2014.

BANGKOK — The Royal Thai Air Force is investigating a video of a naked woman entertaining a group of air force officers inside a military base, a spokesperson said today.

The video, which has been widely shared on social media, shows the nude woman singing and teasing men in Royal Thai Air Force uniforms at a party.

Air Marshal Monthon Satchakorn, a spokesperson for the air force, admitted today that the clip was likely filmed at a "recent" party that took place inside an air force base.

The spokesperson did not say when the party took place or who attended, but said the officers seen in the video will be punished in accordance with air force rules, which prohibit hosting parties with inappropriate or nude acts on military property.

"The Air Force has been inspecting and regulating the use of our buildings and the discipline of our force," AM Monthon said, "But I admit that there has been some failure in terms of discipline. The commanders of their respective units will urgently investigate the matter."

He added, "The officers' actions have damaged the reputation of the armed forces in general."

Thailand’s armed forces have been the source of several scandals in recent months. In August, an army captain allegedly brought troops under his command to beat nightclub security guards after they told him not to smoke inside the establishment.

In addition, several armed servicemen were arrested earlier this year for allegedly serving as security guards for the anti-government movement that carried out six months of political protests prior to the 22 May military coup.
