  1. I was planning a week of holiday on Samui, my flight from Bangkok is in 2 days. But there's this news that all "migrant workers" are banned from coming in or out of Surat Thani:

    https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2038887/surat-thani-bans-travel-by-migrant-workers

Is everyone with the work permit considered a "migrant worker"? I work in Bangkok, so I can't really risk it to get stuck in another province so far from here. Or is it fluid and nobody really knows?

  2. @Agusts Yeah, haha, it's really only on the 1st or 2nd gear, when I'm accelerating and don't shift up quick enough before it hits the read line. Maybe I'm just not the best rider, I don't know ????

@OneMoreFarang Good question, I use it for commuting to work daily in Bangkok, sometimes for a weekend trip to Pattaya, Koh Samet, etc, and a few times for long trips to places like Chiang Mai, Phuket, etc. I like how the cbr500r revs actually, it has a nice torque in the low range, I think I don't want a very sporty bike that has the power starting from 6k rpm etc.

  3. Hi, I bought a CBR500R a few months ago for 80k baht, and made over 10k km on it already. It's a good bike, but I keep hitting the rev limiter a lot (red line is at 8,500) , it's 2012 so pretty old, and has already done around 35,xxx milleage total (well, supposedly). It would be nice to upgrade into something a bit newer and more powerful. I think I would do it just out of curiosity to be honest, as I'm not sure if more power would be useful on Thai roads - and I've never driven anything more powerful than 500cc before.

Can you recommend me some bike, in 120k - 200k baht range, which could be a good upgrade and is easily available in Thailand?

I've been thinking only about CBR650F (R is too expensive and rare apparently, at least on facebook). Are there better options? I'm also pretty short, 169cm, so higher bikes could be difficult to ride.

    Thanks!

  4. Hey, I have the last week of December off and plan to go somewhere for the New Years Eve. I'm in my twenties and it would be nice to party a bit ???? I've been looking into Samui/Phanghan/Tao, but reading the topics in their forums it looks like it's really empty. I'm not sure about Phuket, maybe it could be a little bit busier. I live in Bangkok, so I'm trying to get away somewhere. Do you have any guess, where is it worth going to for the NYE this year?

  5. Hey, Im looking for good road tires for my Honda CBR500. Mostly for safety reasons, my current tires are old and suck. Im not really looking for great longevity as well because I plan to upgrade my bike at some point, so safety and grip are the main concern.

I was checking around and found two best options:

    - IRC IZS99 for around 4,900 baht

    - Mitas Touring Force for 8,000 baht

Mitas has good opinions and IRC has pretty mixed.

Is it work spending more money on getting the Mitas ones, or its not worth it and its completely fine to get IRC?

    Thanks!

  6. So in Thailand normally parkings are divided into car and motorbike spaces. Is it allowed to park a motorbike on a car spot though? If not, what are the fines? Do you have any experience with this?

It's usually not an issue, but I changed the condo last week and my new motorbike parking is a really small one that seems to be for scooters only - it takes me damn 10 or 15min to get my cbr500 out of there, if I manage to do it at all, and mostly not without hitting a few scooters on the way.

  7. Hey, my HJC helmet fell down and one of the small plastic parts that hold the visor in place attached to the helmet is now broken. Every time I put my visor up, it deattaches from the helmet. Sometimes it will happen while driving too which could be dangerous. Is is possible to fix it without buying a new helmet? Where can I do it in Bangkok? Thanks!

  8. Hi! Since next week there is a long weekend, and I bought a new motorbike recently, I'll take some days off and I will have a week to go somewhere for a motorbike trip, hopefully combined with some beach time etc. I was thinking about going south from Bangkok to Chumphon, go to Koh Tao for 2-3 days, and back Chumphon to Bangkok. Do you have some other interesting routes for 7 days trip from Bangkok? Any ideas? ????

  9. Some time ago I posted here asking if Ninja 300Z is a good starter bike...lots of good advice, but I did some riding around, a few days on the track, and I decided to buy CBR500 instead ???? I found one in Nonthaburi from a Thai person. My Residence Certificate has my address in Bangkok on it. It is a different province - is it a problem when transferring a bike on me? Can I just simply do it at Chatuchak DLT?

  10. Hey, how can a foreigner make an appointment for the driving license test in Bangkok DLT? I've been checking the smart queue app, it's in English, but apparently it works only with Thai ID, there is no passport option.

I went there yesterday morning, and they told me I can book only from the 1st July...but apparently the app works for Thais, and the days keep getting full ????. Is there an easier way to do this?

  11. Hey. I live in Bangkok but I have a BOI WP registered in Pattaya...which apparently is a big issue when trying to make a Thai driving license. It's a new work permit so it doesn't have my personal address on it. I went to the immigration in BKK today in the morning to get the Certificate of Residence (I'm not sure if it's required, possibly), but they said I need to go to Pattaya in order to do that. They also told me to find out if I can make a driving license itself in Bangkok, or if I have to go to Pattaya to do this.

    1. Is Certificate of Residence really required to make a Driving License? Is it also required to get my name on the green book when I'm buying a vehicle? Looks like I might need to do it twice then.

    2. Can I make a Driving License in Bangkok in that case?

Sorry, I'm a bit lost in Thai bureaucracy now ????

  12. Thanks. Ok, I think I still won't be getting anything bigger for now since it's my first "big" bike, I will get that Z300 and replace with something else later on. Especially if I can put the bags on the back of it, it should hopefully be fine.

If older bikes are ok, I'll try to get something in 70k range, maybe from 2015-2016, put the rest of the money into a helmet etc.

Insurance, I was thinking about 1st class since it's Thailand after all, I was reading it's less than 20k a year anyway.
