  1. Thanks for your responses, and confirmation of the problem.

fdm - yes bike is from the 5 crossroads shop. I am heading out of Thailand for a couple of weeks, so will drop the bike off with Peter on my way to the airport, and leave it with him until I get back.

Thanks also for the info re proper maintenance. I had only ever ridden bikes on-road before, so wasn't aware of the wear and tear from the red dirt up here.

I will try to do better. facepalm.gif

  2. I bought a mid-range Merida (>TBH10k) mountain bike in Udon last year.

    I have subsequently ridden >1,200km, with about a 70/30% split on/off road.

I have recently been experiencing slipping of the chain, particularly when I put any real pressure on the pedals. From looking at the rear end, it seems that some of the teeth on the smallest and second smallest of the rear cogs have worn, causing the slipping.
The bike has never been serviced.

My question is (before I take it back to the bike shop) - should such wearing occur, given the use the bike has been put to?
  3. A friend is a yachtsman who sails in the Caribbean. He told me about some suspicious characters that he met so I tried doing a bit of research for him. I came across an Interpol website which is really brilliant, in fact its so good that I'm amazed the the UK government hasn't banned it for infringing criminals rights.

Just do an internet search for "Interpol's most wanted"

    http://www.interpol.int/Wanted-Persons

    Not sure about that website.

I entered the name of the known international fugitive Thaksin Shinawatra from Thailand into the search engine, and it came up with a blank.coffee1.gif

  4. This is has got to be one of the most ignorant questions that has ever graced this forum. Is it safe to marry any woman or man for that matter? Human nature whether good or bad depends on the person, not the race or nationality.

Have you ever seen an angry Thai-woman???

I am sure no female Thai partner has ever seen an angry farang man ............. or have they?

Having visited here for 5 years, and subsequently lived here full time for 6+ years, I have never seen a farang man that I consider to be less that a 100% ideal husband. Why can't their Thai partners just wake up, and realise how lucky they are. thumbsup.gif

  5. Message to mods. Perhaps its worth thinking about 'freezing' this topic dues to guessing and speculation. Allow all involved to carry out their investigations. The reputation of the Carrier and Airbus are at risk here.

Yeah please stop me before I guess and speculate again. Sorry for interfering with the official investigation - no doubt they are monitoring TVF for clues. Please freeze this thread before we wreak unimaginable damage on the aviation industry.

I don't think you need to concern yourself too much. Most readers with an IQ slightly better than their hat size would very quickly recognise that TVF is (overwhelmingly) a cesspit of uninformed, unintelligent, and far-too-often prejudiced comment.

  6. What I love most about these types of threads is that the Thai women never get a voice.

How many of them have met, and for whatever reason, entered into relationships with weak, penniless, lying, promiscuous, alcoholic, feckless, impotent male farang partners?

ps if you recognise yourself in the second sentence, count it as a step forward in your recovery. smile.png

  7. Wow...I thought Norwegians were tall blonde viking looking chaps....

What a stupid comment. Where do you live? North Korea?

apparently there are a couple of posters here who have yet to recognize "tongue-in-cheek" or "dry humor", and take things way to serious.

My response to this particular one would be: "No, but may I ask, where do you live? A cave?"

Sorry, but I do tend to turn into something of a smarta** when confronted with abject ignorance. wai2.gif

I suspect alocacoc's observation is right on the money.

    But your self-recognition is admirable.

  8. Well they're bloody fools. Yep just bloody fools. Never should these temptations be put in front of poor working class Thais.

There's every chance they'd be robbed in the West too when displaying such stupidity.

Bit like those hussies who go out in short skirts I guess - just asking to be sexually molested. thumbsup.gif

"Well I know of one western couple, visit Pattaya every year, have been scolded by local friends and hotel management, and police, for leaving very large sums of cash out in the open for visitors, maids etc., to see. And it's all left out in full view while they go sightseeing for the day, etc.

They also leave out in full view wallets, passports, jewelry (including bags of jewelry bought from big local gem shops which they take home and sell to fund their trips to Pattaya).

Their response to scolding "you should trust people".

Yes they have been robbed several times, but they continue to leave to leave it all out in full view.

Well they're bloody fools. Yep just bloody fools. Never should these temptations be put in front of poor working class Thais.

There's every chance they'd be robbed in the West too when displaying such stupidity".

Sorry can't see any relevance to your post. Mine was about the people being stupid to leave money & valuables on show in their hotel room. Bound to be robbed. Yours was about prostitutes wearing short skirts????????????

Have I missed something in your post?

    Yes. Blaming the victim.

But you did manage to add something - nowhere in my post did I use the word "prostitutes".

  9. Heres my practical framework for your future Tony.

War Crimes Trial. Subject: Your invasion of a sovereign & non-aggressive nation. Exhibit A: 1m+ Iraqi dead civilians. You : guilty. Prison. Key. Throw key away. The end. Additional/PS ; Parents use "tony blair" in future generations as a boogeyman figure to frighten them when they've been naughty, and say what can happen to you if you sell your soul to Lucifer.

May the lord forgive me that I agree with Yunla ...................... but the wheels of justice may be slowly gathering momentum: clap2.gif

For years it seems impregnable, then suddenly the citadel collapses. An ideology, a fact, a regime appears fixed, unshakeable, almost geological. Then an inch of mortar falls, and the stonework begins to slide. Something of this kind happened over the weekend.

When Desmond Tutu wrote that Tony Blair should be treading the path to The Hague, he de-normalised what Blair has done. Tutu broke the protocol of power – the implicit accord between those who flit from one grand meeting to another – and named his crime. I expect that Blair will never recover from it.

The offence is known by two names in international law: the crime of aggression and a crime against peace. It is defined by the Nuremberg principles as the "planning, preparation, initiation or waging of a war of aggression". This means a war fought for a purpose other than self-defence: in other words outwith articles 33 and 51 of the UN Charter.

That the invasion of Iraq falls into this category looks indisputable. Blair's cabinet ministers knew it, and told him so. His attorney general warned that there were just three ways in which it could be legally justified: "self-defence, humanitarian intervention, or UN security council authorisation. The first and second could not be the base in this case." Blair tried and failed to obtain the third................

As the main arse-smeller, Blair deserves slightly less opprobrium than Bush, but slightly more than Howard.

Bush and Howard have kept their evil heads down in retirement - it is sickening that Blair continues to profit in the face of being a war criminal. Hopefully the 3 of them will eventually confront justice, before they face their maker.

  10. There is a teacher at my old school who has a students sleep over at his home and other teachers hear them having sex but on does anything about it.

One can only assume that you were a student at this school, not a teacher, your ability to check your post for typos does not bode well for your students if you were a teacher . TIT , Thais do what they want, or think they can get away with without getting punished. Actions like this only increases the hidden contempt that one feels for "THAINESS".

Sorry for the typos, you are right I did zero proofing and little thought. My fault sorry for the troubles. I was typing, and at the same time trying to fend off two of my children who were using me as high ground attack platform.

I wouldn't worry too much - you can't be expected to satisfy a poster who has a Masters Degree in Pedantry.

  11. . Someone like the Consul in Chiangmai would probably suit Thailand perfectly. A ghost who is never seen or heard of and impossible to contact. The consul in Chiangmai is a little like Big Foot, a myth, some actually believe he/she exists but no factual sightings.

An interesting comment from someone, who despite clear evidence to the contrary, maintained their insistence that the Chiang Mai Oz Hon Consul was a Thai female, and a business to boot.

Perhaps if you starting looking in the right place you may be able to locate Mr Walther. wink.png

Actually we tried here without any luck. (Jinda is actually my wife's name)

    Australian Consulate

    Jinda Charoen Konsong

    236 Chiangmai-Doi Saket Road

    Amphur Sansai

    Chiang Mai, THAILAND

    Telephone: (66 8) 1837-7750

Is there somewhere else we should search for him?. Does he have a favourite bar some place where he hangs out and operates from? That phone number just rings out, tried hundreds of times (well lots and lots) and at the address is just a Thai woman who doesn't speak English so very hard to get advice from her on Australian related issues.

Perhaps you could look a bit more deeply to get the full information:

  12. Does the UK require some evidence of consent from both parents before issuing a visa?

    No; in fact the opposite!

The sponsoring parent needs to show that they have been exercising sole responsibility over the child for a considerable period.

Which basically means the child living with the sponsoring parent or their family and the sponsoring parent making all the decisions on the child's life and upbringing; with little or no input from the other parent.

See SET7.8 What is sole responsibility?

Would the Por Kor 14 be good (?sufficient) evidence of this?

  13. It seems to me that getting the passport may be only part of the equation.

What are the requirements for getting a UK visa?

As sfbandung stated, for Oz it is a bit more complicated - in our case, the Por Kor 14 was sufficient, as we were only after a visitor (tourist) visa for my wife's (never seen his father) son.

Does the UK require some evidence of consent from both parents before issuing a visa?

  15. The usual lets jump on the bandwagon bash the drivers, the horse is dead but many here continue to beat it.

The usual bash the other posters troll post- despite being a reader, forum member and very active poster himself.

You are quite correct g81 - bashing a far too high number of TV posters is a waste of a good stick.

Just gets sadder every day. blink.png

  16. I get more and more confused reading this... so her boyfriend killed a different woman? thinking it was her? ... if they're in a happy relationship, has be been getting crap from the family for the last year for killing his GF? so now he can say 'see i didn't kill her' or at least 'i didn't kill Nigora'.... and what's become of him if he was jailed or something for killing her and she shows up a year later? great girlfriend by the way to wait a year if he is (sorry i missed the original story when all this first happened).... either way.. *scratches head* facepalm.gif

You're not the brightest star in the galaxy, are you. facepalm.gif

Post #32 explains it in quite easy-to-read terms.
