You seriously think if I apply for an extension based on retirement with 700K in a Thai bank, with 1,900 baht in hand, my IO are going to send it to the regional office for an Inspector or above to 'consider' my application.

Not at all.....though going from many posts here on TVF they may offer to overlook it for a fee, or advise you to go see an agent

You assume that just because it's theoretically possible for the Commander of the Royal Thai Police to sign off an application which doesn't fulfill the requirements, that's what actually happens.

If it actually happened on such a level, these services were provided in every province and not only in some.

I assume nothing.....the post I was replying to indicated in the police order, what I said was logistically possible. No theory involved!!

That is misinformation often stated. Not every office has the authority.

This what the immigration order for extensions of stay states.

"5. In the case where an alien applicant does not meet the full qualifications stipulated by the criteria herein or in other cases not specified in this Order but a competent officer equivalent to or higher than inspector is of the opinion that the alien has legitimate reason for staying in the Kingdom of Thailand, the application shall be forwarded to the Commander of the Royal Thai Police or an authorized competent officer for further consideration of the alien's application."

This indicates to me that an agent prepared application, with truthful verifiable information being considered by those senior IO's is a legal process; irrespective of where the monies paid to the agent eventually goes. In the first instance it is the agent that argues the case on your behalf. In the second, it's ultimately up to the IO's concerned to say yay or nay; depending on the merit visible to them in the application concerning your circumstances.

Seems pretty legit to me....... As for morality; pffft! That's an individual thing in any given particular circumstance.

Never could get my head around Suzuki making cars, dont like them, and to me they will always be mortorcycles manufacturers.

Extremely short sighted biased view..... considering how long they've been around and what they actually started out as. Still it takes all sorts I guess.......

In 1909, Michio Suzuki (1887–1982) founded the Suzuki Loom Works in the small seacoast village of Hamamatsu, Japan . Business boomed as Suzuki built weaving looms for Japan's giant silk industry.[9] In 1929, Michio Suzuki invented a new type of weaving machine, which was exported overseas. The company's first 30 years focused on the development and production of these machines.[citation needed]

Despite the success of his looms, Suzuki believed that his company would benefit from diversification and he began to look at other products. Based on consumer demand, he decided that building a small car would be the most practical new venture. The project began in 1937, and within two years Suzuki had completed several compact prototype cars. These first Suzuki motor vehicles were powered by a then-innovative, liquid-cooled, four-stroke, four-cylinder engine. It had a cast aluminum crankcase and gearbox and generated 13 horsepower (9.7 kW) from a displacement of less than 800cc.[

A bit off topic, but am I correct to understand your travel insurer signed the "Foreign Insurance Certificate" required for the O-A visa? If so, which company is this?  Would be useful info for others

Sorry @Sheryl; that post is rather disjointed. That was my go to prior to mandated health insurance rather than the lurgy. My last O-A permission to stay ended April 2020.

My main aim was to show that not everyone would be here on an extension of stay therefore indicating residency and how it could be achieved so as not to upset the Oz Government. It can still be achieved with the mandated insurance.

Open to you convincing me otherwise I believe @4MyEgo said.

Don't understand the drama, it's very simple and straight forward,

    1. You have to be in Australia to apply.

    2. You have to have been in Australia for a 2 year period before applying if you want portability, if not portability - isn't available.

It's not either or!! It's be back two years before, or wait two years after. Even then it's just restricted portability, not none at all.........

Payment may be suspended for short overseas absences during the 2-year period and does not have to be reclaimed on return to Australia. A short absence from Australia (as long as the person is still classed as an Australian resident) will not impact on the end date of the 2-year period (i.e. the absence still counts towards the person's 2-year period).

Portability of payments for former residence

The fundamental tenets of the Australian social security system are residence and need. Because residence is a fundamental qualification criterion for Australian social security payments, former residents who return to Australia and subsequently claim Australian social security payments with indefinite portability, are required to stay in Australia for at least two years before their payment becomes portable. The policy rationale for this requirement is that indefinite portability is only available to Australian residents. The former resident rule prevents people who lose their connections with Australia to return to Australia just to obtain a pension and return overseas.

Further information on the former residence requirements is in the Social Security Guide at Chapter 7.1.4 Requirements for former residents of Australia receiving a portable pension.

What can cause blossom drop in tomatoes?

Blossoms drop when the plant is stressed and can be caused by any of the following.

    Not enough water

    Missing nutrients, especially nitrogen

    Too cold or too hot

    Poor genetics

    High winds

    Humidity outside the range 40-70%

Heavy fruit set – fewer fruits later in season

    Insects and disease

There is some evidence that shading can keep plants cool enough to set fruits in hot climates.

Powdery Mildew may be the disease your leaves are suffering from.

Read this regarding the Australians in France who think they are more special than the rest of us when applying for the aged pension.

    Pathetic

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-03-20/australian-retirees-feeling-poor-in-france-seek-pension-deal/13227946

I wholeheartedly agree; pathetic!! The tone of the article seems designed to be adversarial; more class division through the way some have pulled out their service to the country and awards received BS, as if it somehow sets them above you me & the doorpost because of wealth. We've all provided services to the country!!

Senator Abetz quote also seems to have a rather different interpretation of how an Australian living overseas can apply for OAP. Is this a hitherto unknown loophole? And if so can those of us overseas in Asia at aged pension time just pop over to India, since we do have an agreement with them?

    Please read my post above.

The fact that you have a 12 month extension based on retirement to live in Thailand makes you a non resident of Australia, THAT IS MY WHOLE POINT.

Not having a go at you mate, you really need to be careful, because they will NOT cover you, believe me or not, it is up to you.

If you want to put your mind at ease, call them, you can be anonymous and tell them what you said in your above post, noting in particular that you are thinking of travelling to Thailand for 11 months of the year, but to be able to stay in Thailand for that period you need to have a retirement extension, they will then answer your question for you, and if they say anything different to what I have said, e.g. your policy will be invalid, then you will want to get that in writing.

You can thank me later when you get the proper health cover because at the moment, you have a travel insurance plan, but your not covered because you failed to disclose the obvious, you are a non resident of Australia, regardless if you return once a year, you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but to think what could happen to you tomorrow thinking you have cover is like you are a walking time bomb and insurers will find this loophole as soon as they ask for your passport pages, the ones that are stamped retirement extension which in essence means your abode is Thailand, which under Australian Law makes you a non resident.

Open to you convincing me otherwise.

Until the dreaded lurgy raised it's ugly head I returned to Oz every two years to renew my O-A visa. My travel insurance was yearly with an option to extend for one year outside of Australia. In those two years periods I had "permissions to stay", not a retirement extension in sight with side trips into neighbouring countries when ever I saw fit. Never a resident of anywhere other than Oz.

Of course it's all rather moot now, since my second extension is due within the month.

They don't know col. Anyone in prison has wasted their life is no good and is not worth any help or redemption regardless.

This is not the case. What an ignorant and narrow minded comment.

What an ignorant and narrow minded attempt to derail two posters comments; who obviously have the wherewithal to back up their claims.

Are you able to advise if a missing Brit citizen in Thailand is deceased? If you are, what is the best way to contact you?

I'd say you would be obligated to advise if you knew a missing British citizen in Thailand was deceased. Again; it would be you who should be making contact..... What exactly is it you're trying to ask or tell us??
