  1. To London:- EVA is direct and good. Finnair is also an option via a quiet and calm Helsinki, and around 120k bht return - in their new funky seat.
  2. Here's hopefully some useful info. Do NOT buy an Android box - cheap and worse than that https://techcrunch.com/2023/05/18/popular-android-tv-boxes-sold-on-amazon-are-laced-with-malware/ and worse is usually they are running some version of android rather than Google TV - so interface will be rubbish for the usual type of tv remote (most of those Android boxes will require an 'air' remote to be usable...), on top of the underpowered chipsets used in them. Buy the "Chromecast with Google TV 4k" (you can check it also from Google itself) - easily avaliable Shopee etc for about 2000bht. this actually has the proper Google TV software. you can easily install a VPN app if needed, and i'd recommend Tivimate (or TVSmarters) for an IPTV app. For Tivimate best to go into Settings>General>User-Agent and set it to "VLC" just in case to prevent nay problems with your stream provider. ps Smarttube is also useful as an alternative to the usual youtube app for reason you'll quickly find out. pps an App called Button Mapper is good too - remap the Google remote Youtube button to SmartTube and remap the Netflix button to Tivimate, for example. ppps if you use an iPhone then install the Google home app, and you can connect that to the Chromecast box for data entry etc from your phone rather than faffing with the onscreen keyboard
  3. It's not so much as needing an alternative to Kindle (Kobo is an option), but to take control & download your books - my advice is to use an app called Calibre. https://calibre-ebook.com/about You can check on MobileRead forums and elsewhere how excellent & trustworthy it is. Download your ebooks after purchase, and then you will have a copy of your book under your control.
  4. No - both the Withings BPM connect and a new Omron are on the arm device - wrist ones are npt recommended at all. Omron Evolv is their equivalent.
  5. There are newer Omron and Withings blood pressure monitors that don't have the tubing - a one piece item that also logs your readings to your phone. Withings BPM connect is good and on Shopee for about same price as Amazon US https://shopee.co.th/Withings-BPM-Connect-Blood-Pressure-Monitor-i.71913621.7556898484?sp_atk=76487996-363a-46b4-bc27-d814043670c5&xptdk=76487996-363a-46b4-bc27-d814043670c5
  6. Available at many district medical centres the wife says... We went for our booster (Pfizer) a couple of weeks ago at the Bangkok Youth Centre Thai-Japanese at Din Daeng as it's fairly close to us. Free and well organised - I think it's only weekends at that location google "Bangkok thai-japanese youth centre" and you'll get it if that's handy for you (Din Daeng and Rama 9)
  7. SB Design rather than Index... and shopping online at Ikea rather than the horror of the real life Ikea maze. The online Ikea has great delivery with timed choices - and yes, you can pay extra for them to screw it all together for you for any larger size items which I strongly recommend. (SB design when I used them many years ago also put it all together no extra charge).
  8. As mentioned above - get an Aeropress. Ignore the instructions that come with it. I recommend brewing inverted (google and youtube) and let it steep for 2-1/2 minutes then press. And as soon as you can get whole beans (Bluekoff or others) and a grinder. This one: Baratza Encore grinder 6,900Bht https://shopee.co.th/เครื่องบดกาแฟ-BARATZA-ENCORE-i.56671972.5359524160 The easy & excellent one cup way is a Moccamaster One-Cup... but unfortunately this wonderful coffemaker is 16,900bht here... so if you go to the UK you could pick one up for less than half the price https://www.bellabarista.co.uk/brands/technivorm-one-cup-filter-coffee-machine-orange.html
  9. You can ask at Doctor Vision (it's close to the Mall at Bang Kapi) http://doctorvision.net I was fit for my progressive Scleral contact lenses there by Dr Bird - they're excellent. Not sure if they have stock of monthly soft lenses - ask them, they may be able to order whatever you need even so.
  10. Eva as above - direct, cheaper and far superior to Thai. A quick search shows Thai attempting to extort 40% more for a business class return in July vs Eva. ???? Etihad would be an option if you don't mind the 1 stop, as they're cheaper than Emirates or Eva.
  11. True that... I'll add that the 5gHz wifi on my ccwgtv is not a reliable connection (to an asus router) perhaps due to it hanging at the back of the TV - my Apple TV4k runs perfectly on the 5gHz wifi connection to same router, maybe a better antenna also on the ATV. For 1080p content a 2.5gHz wifi is plenty and that is perfectly stable on my ccwgtv - i've no need for a wired Lan connection for the content I stream though it - so try it out first and see if you need the LAN connection.
  12. You can find the specs yourself directly from the google chromecast website https://store.google.com/gb/product/chromecast_google_tv?hl=en-GB It comes with a decent remote (although the volume control on the side is an awkward place for them), and apps can be installed from the Google play store... so Yes IPTV apps can be installed just as any other app can be. I've got Tivimate running on mine - works a treat. This google device should be updated regularly unlike many other cheapo Android boxes... many of which don't even run the TV version of android so need an irritating 'magic' wave around pointer to control it and run out of date android versions.... Just get the "Chromecast with Google TV" gen 4 - note it runs off a seperate power supply (wall wart/box supplied) as it requires more power than a usb port can supply.
  13. Have a look online at Ikea also - they deliver so no need to endure an in-person visit and no assembly required.
  14. I've a craving for Twiglets.... and would also stock up on crumpets to keep in the freezer.
  15. Before you get a mouse, save your money for "Better Touch Tool" - try it for free first https://folivora.ai Here's how i've set mine up... it also has a built in Clipboard manager, and keyboard shortcuts and more.. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/bettertouchtool-gestures.1693622/post-18624462
  16. Coverage on Channel 36 (PPTV) …. and can switch to UK commentary. I’m giving the Golf Channel Thailand a go for a month on AIS Play, as it was so cheap for the first month… and it doesn’t even have coverage of the Thailand Lpga tournament… and has endless re-runs of old torunements - seems to be worthless and on its last legs.
  17. The transliteration 'Thep' is the correct one.... The typical transliteration systems all use the 'h' to denote a hard consonant - so 'ph' is a hard p sound as in 'paste' or indeed Phuket. And also 'kh' is the transliteration for a hard 'k' sound like the C in 'cake' - whereas 'k' on its own is a 'g' sound like the g in 'game' - and that does mean Phuket is properly pronounced with a 'g' sound not the wrong hard k sound... mind you it would be better transliterated as Phuuket to indicate the long initial vowel sound. And similarly, 'th' is a hard t sound like t in 'taste'. Transliteration systems all have to deal with the problem of the Western alphabet only having 26 symbols... whereas Thai has many, many as it is phonetic.
  18. If you run into a brick wall getting any 3rd party cable modem to play with your Thai ISP... get True to bridge their modem/router. I'm using AIS - I had them set the cable modem to bridged mode as I do NOT use their mediocre built in wifi router. Use my Asus AC88U for that with Asuswrtmerlin firmware installed and Diversion adblocker running on it.
  19. I've been taking 20mg Xarelto for many years already - had a DVT after a long flight and due to working offshore using Warfarin wasn't a good option, so Xarelto it was and is. Your doctor will follow up to check on any issues but no... shaving etc is not a problem for me and the occasional nose bleed stops pretty much the same as always, same as minor cuts etc - the good thing about Xarelto is no overdose issues (like death) from Warfarin and no need for regular clotting checks, no issues with diet affecting the warfarin and so on...
  20. Actually, the booster is now ok/recommended sooner - after 3 months, as reported both for Thailand and the UK Thailand:- https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2231171/govt-to-expedite-covid-19-boosters-to-ward-off-omicron UK:- https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/nov/29/covid-booster-jabs-to-be-offered-to-all-uk-adults-after-three-month-gap
  21. Those Warburtons crumpets will do nicely... and wot's more... they've got TWIGLETS! Happy days
  22. As above - we have AIs fibre and had it put in bridge mode. Our wifi router is an Asus AC-88U - and as a bonus you can install Asuswrt-Merlin firmware on it and then run amtm to have Diversion running an on router level Ad-blocker fro all your devices on the wi-fi. "Asuswrt-Merlin is a third party alternative firmware for Asus routers, with a special emphasis on tweaks and fixes rather than radical changes or collecting as many features as possible" https://www.asuswrt-merlin.net
  23. The Mor Prom Vaccine Certificate (saved as screenshot in case of App or network problems just in case) or the A4 Certificate of vaccination from Medpark in my case - are perfectly fine for domestic flights. I flew Bangkok-Hat Yai on 23rd Sep and had to show my Certs of vaccination at check in. Another colleague who wasn't vaccinated yet had followed their (Thai Smile) requirements which also allows if you have a Rapid ATK test within 24hrs that has been certified by a Doctor (i.e. you'll need to get it done at a hospital realistically). It seems that qualifying as vaccinated requires 2x shots of the Chinese stuff.... but 1x of AZ is enough - but best to check with airline on that (i've had 2x AZ).
  24. If you need any surgery.... the words to remember are "stapled hemorrhoidectomy" https://www.medicinenet.com/stapled_hemorrhoidectomy/article.htm Despite the -ectomy (appendectomy, hysterectomy... legectomy... no seriously, I think the docs got fed up with all the Latin and Greek and said screw it - we'll just call it a legectomy) in the name... this procedure does NOT remove your hemorrhoids. Which is a good thing... they form a useful liquid and gas tight seal after all. And the wounds are stapled and well up inside you... rather than around your sphincter - and since stitches are meant to hold things closed whereas sphincters... not so much. The result of that is a phrase you don't want to hear or read about your ring piece - "open wounds". so.. yeah. If the -ectomy is needed.. ask if they have done (or whether it's available) the stapled method. If not, walk gently to somewhere else where they do have it as a treatment option. Bangkok Hospital, Bangkok being one...
  25. Got my 2nd AZ shot yesterday at Medpark and within a couple of hours the Vaccine Certificate and Health Pass were both in my Mor Phrom app ok... NOTE!!!! Take a screenshot of both. I've then kept a copy of both those screenshots (tidied up to remove borders) in a folder on my phone - and also added both in the phone's Notes App. Any app issues or unable to access internet for whatever reason (e.g. when travelling) will be not a problem.
