  1. Tried Leo once when it first came out...never again. I can also remember when Guinness first came to Bangkok - it was around 300 baht a pint...sold out quickly. Beer is a funny issue, I laugh when tourists come to the pub and get all bent out of shape because there is no London Pride or John Smiths...perhaps they should holiday at home.
  2. Don't tempt fate...some people just cannot resist the urge to take. Even saw a chunky necklace grabbed from a customer at a very small noodle shop (sitting almost in the road) in a very average Bangkok soi.
  3. I used a visa service many, many years ago...when things were easier. But after an 'issue' always done things myself...and no problems since.
  4. Who in their right mind would be walking around at night with such a piece of gold on clear display? Looks like he was only wearing a vest too...(asking for trouble?)
  5. Let's just say, that if a foreigner was to film locals driving incorrectly...it would be a full-time job.
  6. As a young motorcyclist in the UK, after buying my first big bike, I was told by a friend..."To drive safely you have to imagine everyone else on the road is out toget YOU". This was great advice which has also worked well here for many years. Gave up the bikes 15 years ago for an SUV...it's safer.
  7. These fights between vocational students are a regular ocurrance, and often there is death or serious injury. Ultimately, the schools must be held responsible for not doing enough to stop this happening. One of my P.E. teachers in school had the best idea - any issues between students (all boys school) it was into the gym, boxing gloves on and let the steam off...and parents were in favour of this too.
  8. Good question - went to one with cash in a briefcase...hoping to get a discount like in some countries. No, they want people to buy on hire-purchase. Also, noticed - and heard from others - that even when the motor shows were going on...some showrooms aound Bangkok had the same vehicles at a lower price,
  9. Did in fact ask a Thai policeman once why he was not stopping the motorcyles going past three-up and helmetless...his reply was, "not my job today".
  10. I can feel for the owners of places that are still not able to open, but it seems like some places can just get away with anything. Pubs open in Bangkok now...the ones I have visited over the past couple of weeks (quiet times)...no social distancing / no check if vaccinated or not / some customers not checking temperature on the way in etc. etc.
  11. It seems that (in Bangkok) places with the correct licences are open officially...others are risking fines and closure by opening unofficially.
  12. Planning a drive around Bangkok tomorrow, just to see which places are preparing to re-open.
  13. Bought my CRV 10 years ago...what a bargain, and it still looks like new. Fully serviced every year by Honda. Looking for a new vehicle next year...do not like the shape of the newer CRV, so will probably upgrade to a Porche Cayenne.
  14. Hmm...it never ceases to amaze me how many people think it's okay to not follow the set 'rules'. If you choose to break the rules - your choice - but the problem is we all get put into the same category...foreigners. The powers that be are way too soft. Regardless of how long someone has been here, and regardless of how much money or property they may have - if they break the rules, they need to be punnished. The punnishment is easy - send them back to their country (with no option to return) where they can break all the rules they want and it will not affect those of us here to do follow the rules. With people saying that friends and aquaintances have died, or are dying due to Covid - you would think the message would sink in.
  15. To put a little twist on this one...we are always reading and hearing of how many Billions of baht the country is losing, and how many billions of baht they are still hoping to amass this year. But...never have I seen a message, or heard any words of thanks for the many thousands of us who choose to stay here, and do in fact contribute huge amounts of money to the country.
