  1. So all these posters who say to go back to your country to get the vax, how does that make sense when it has a huge detrimental effect on CO2 emissions. Then there is the health issue of being on a long haul flight and the costs in time and money. Far better for govt to arrange to fly the vaccine here. I understand the individual situation is not dire yet but it is an emergency and they have the means to provide for their citizens well being in this case. The British ambassador's fireside chats last year about us all stranded in this crisis together ring hollow now him and his team are vaxxed and the rest of us are just being fobbed off with a new story every day. At best, we will probably be offered an ineffective jab that is not recognized in our home countries.

  2. Also bear in mind, you might have self exiled due to the state of the government. We had 15 years of tories so not really much choice but to stay away then until things changed. Honestly speaking though, it was Blair and his rights removing government who took away my vote. Not as if we have any voting rights here is it? Being disenfranchised is not democratic and if knowledge of current affairs in Blighty is the excuse, then sorry, they should take away the vote of all those idiotic working class tories who are exploited by Murdoch and co. They obviously don't vote in their self interest so one can only assume they shouldn't be given the right to vote!

  3. The way I see it is, having the vote gives us expats leverage to get the government to change the rules which affect us such as pensions. If people here don't give a toss about their vote but they care about their pensions then they are missing the point of having the vote! Don't you  wonder why politicians don't give a toss about you or your pension. You are not their constituent. It ain't rocket science!

  4. It is all relative... Once upon a time this scene would have been the normal level of activity and road traffic in Pattaya. Not jsut my memory but plenty of videos on youtube supporting this in a time when the place was a more relaxed, carefree and happy town. Personally, I'd say it was nicer then. Not sure what the attraction is in going to a stressful, crowded, noisy and polluted destination to relax on holiday but it takes all sorts...

So sad so glad I lived when I lived in a world of petrol heads.

I don't really get this mindset. You can still own a polluting climate destroying vehicle as far as I am aware, it is just the World realizes it is selfish to continue with production of them to save us from ourselves (or should I say younger generations who now have to live with all the CO2 of their budget which we used for ourselves). It is not as if dynamically the electric vehicles of the future will have any downsides to the ICE ones of today. I am sure they will be able to pretend to be clunky, noisy, vibrate and low on power for the older generation who miss those 'characteristics'. It's called progress...

  6. Ford Vs Volvo, in Thailand, Volvo is a money pit. Look at the depreciation. As well as the direct loss, this usually tells you something about reliability in the long run too. I was tempted with the 400hp of the Volvo but it is hard to justify throwing so much money away.  I was 98% ready to buy a Titanium + (would have gone for the Sport but wanted 4WD),  but at the last minute, saw the light and bought a Raptor ???? Same price, more space for luggage and for me enough seats. Superb suspension and brakes, built incredibly strong and has lovely sports seats, paddle shift etc. My only gripe is in Thailand, a couple of the features are missing, notably adaptive cc. On the plus side 6 modes and plenty of tracks around here to make dust clouds. Looks way more aggressive and not as common as the Everest and Fortuna etc. CX5, lovely car but, yes car and not really in the same league when it comes to potholes etc. As for the PHEV version of  the Fords, well now it seems we will be waiting until 2023 MY so who knows what will be available by then?  My feeling is EVs will be the way to go by 2023 and PHEVs will be looking very much the stop gap powertrain that they really are. How that will leave the current Ford complex Biturbo 2.0 with 10AT, maybe looking overly complicated but my feeling is, like two stroke motorcycles, the last gen ICE cars will be ones which are appreciated in the future. All conjecture of course, and if Toyota solid state batteries become mainstream, well everything else is just going to look like it is in the steam age including PHEVs.

  7. I know you said no pickup, but if you want something cool, really good handling (off road and better than an Everest on road), then get a Ford Raptor and all your ground clearance problems have gone away. Granted it is big but has a much more sporty image than an Everest and it stands out from the rest of the pick ups in terms of performance, looks and image. I've got a roll up cover on the bed and so the bed can be used for throwing in lifestyle items when you go to the beach etc and be kept out of prying eyes, freeing up the inside for people . (the bed is also good for carrying smelly Thai food LOL).  The best thing is with the  coil suspension and Fox race shock absorbers, when you encounter potholes or bumps, you don't need to slow down at all. The faster you hit them the better actually. It just goes straight over with no fuss. On Baja mode on sandy tracks it is a real hoot too. Coming from a Macan, you will definitely notice the lack of power but then again the Raptor has the same 210 hp 500N/M Bi turbo as the top spec Everests and for the price and most Thai road conditions, I think the power adequate if not stellar.  I would think Raptor would out-handle the Macan on the rough stuff which let's face it, is pretty much everywhere in Thailand. Ford servicing costs and convenience vs Porsche? No brainer there too.

  8. yes it is 2020. Chatting with sales person right now as it happens. Bkk. Her facebook (I don't do line ) so messenger her there  https://www.facebook.com/nidnoi.head/  . She is very responsive and helpful. One thing, she gave a little extra discount because it will  be in a company name but minimum 100K discount and you can go from there. I saw last night another dealer saying 300K off Fords but only Thursdays and Fridays or something (Thai language) I think it was probably click bait. It seems once you start liking this sort of thing on faceebook, your feed will be full of them!

  9. Ford have 100K THB off many models if you pay cash and also 0% finance if you by on the never never.  I was talking to one sales person and she dropped the Titanium+ down from 1,809,000 to 1,682,000 and that is just from discussing on line. Not sure why the Titanium+ doesn't have 'Sport'  version like the 2 wheel drive lower powered 'Sport".  Go  figure!

Route 7 is looking very scenic these days ....

I was thinking the same. ironic as they pulled out the last tree in the median strip about a month ago all in the interests of 'improvements'. Took them 20 years to make a pleasant tarmac surfaced road with rural scenery into a nasty glaring concrete and galvanized fence eyesore with the usual shambolic buildings lining its entire length. Only the recently opened final stretch remains scenic. Wonder how long it will take them to mess that up too?

Ah, are you saying that if we don't allow Joe Biden to interfere into another countrys business we won't get a trade deal, there's a word for that.

The issue is to do with Tories trying to tear up yet another of the UK agreements illegally. This one is the Irish Agreement which was settled by all parties with the US having a part in the negotiations. iit is not the US bullying the UK but the UK not upholding its international commitments which is at issue.

  12. Knowing this is just hot air, it makes you wonder about all the other EEC projects viability and who is really interested in it. All this destruction and money wasted for what? Personally,  living right next door to U tapao, I wish the whole site would be turned back over to the Thai Navy and nature left how it was when I first moved here. One day Thailand will wake up and wonder why their once beautiful green country is now just one nasty hot grey concrete disaster zone (thinking Bowin here...) Oh yes, I can just see the foreign tourists just can't wait to see all the industrial states and 18 wheel trucks. Meanwhile in other news, the last remaining tree was grubbed out in the central reservation of Highway 7 to make way for more concrete and cars. You can now even drive all the way from BKK to Pattaya without any grass at all in the central reservation though the part from Pattaya to Ban Chang still has some (paraquat will take care of that...)

One of the biggest factors, which Boris seems to have missed, is how will the National Grid cope? Not only will petrol/diesel cars be phased out, so will gas. This means that EVERY home will be electric only, as new homes will not be allowed to install gas cookers/central heating nor boilers. There are approximately 37 million vehicles on the road at present. If they all charge at the same time, darkness!!

One other factor. Nobody here has mentioned HGVs. Their batteries will have to have enormous capacity to pull 44 tons of freight and will take hours to recharge. That vehicle's downtime cost will certainly be passed on to the consumer.

you really think he 'missed' this and nobody would have mentioned this to him? Best you let him know...  Now think about if more homes have solar panels and battery storage and the whole thing is linked up in a smart grid... Correct, the article did not mention HGVs but his 10 point plan does if you read it on the govt website. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/pm-outlines-his-ten-point-plan-for-a-green-industrial-revolution-for-250000-jobs?They don't have a date for that but he does have in his 10 plans one of themfor finding carbon neutral fuels for difficult to switch industries such as shipping and planes. HGVs may or may not fall into that category. However,  given the fact that we have 10 years it is moving in the right direction and this is the first time I have supported anything Boris has proposed!
