The child could enter Thailand visa exempt or with a tourist visa and if an overstay occurs there is no consequence other than a small overstay stamp in the passport-
If your wife can prove with documentation that the child is Thai the initial permission to stay can be extended to one year at any immigration office.

Why would they single out extensions based upon marriage and not retirement as well.
Phuket Immigration has done exactly that - It seems Phuket is not alone

'O/A' visa also has the usual 90 day reporting and annual renewal process
90 day reports are needed if 90+ days are spent in Thailand No visa can be renewed but an extension of stay can be applied for toward the end of any entry gained with an O/A visa.

Sorry, but a little confused, because the way I read into these visas makes me see that the only difference between the two types of visas, is that the Non 'O/A' can only be applied for from overseas,
The O/A visa is a multiple entry visa which, if used correctly allows for a 2 year stay.

The information from the Singapore Thai embassy seems to be comprehensive and answers your question

When did you obtain reentry permit Phuket airport
The re-entry desk/office WAS CLOSED so I did NOT obtain a R/E permit. Understand?
The OP is reporting a very recent experience which does not invalidate the experience of others - We will have to await further reports before concluding that R/E permits are available 24/7/365 at Phuket airport.

A 60 day tourist visa exists which can be extended by 30 days at an immigration office. Phom Phenh can be difficult and is not the best of places to apply for a visa.

So far one post mentioned office was "closed".
Mmm TRY READING WHAT I ACTUALLY WROTE
"I tried obtaining a RE at the airport and failed which meant I lost 8 months of an extension to stay. This occurred when the I/O was closed and not late at night." NB I/O means immigration office NOT the re-entry desk/office at the airport which was in fact CLOSED AT THE TIME I WAS THERE- AND NO ONE WAS AVAILABLE TO OPEN IT.

I may be wrong but I do not believe this SE O visa is now issued - You will only have the choice of a SE or ME tourist visa

Actually according to this also from Phuket immigration the answer is no, income is fine for a marriage extension.
Please highlight the section which says monthly income from abroad is accepted for an extension based on marriage.

Do the new rules in Phuket regarding cash in the bank versus monthly income only apply to marriage extensions?
Yes!

You could try and appeal
AFAIK There is no formal appeal mechanism beyond that offered by the Immigration hotline 1178

He only received a 30 day stamp
Because he arrived as an American with an American passport. If you can prove he is Thai then that 30 day stay can be extended to one year at an immigration office.
To fix it you must get the child a Thai passport then leave the country using the American passport and then re-enter using the Thai passport.
There are no consequences other than a possible overstay stamp for children.

There is no guarantee of a RE permit being available at the airport - Best you obtain in advance from the I/O

PM me for the name of a reliable agent. Anything "official" will be accepted as proof of address - but Thai docs must be translated to English.

I have been making 90 online reports to the Phuket office since the system came into being. Never a problem except when the whole system was down and then a visit to the Patong office was easy and again no problem

I employed a Pattaya agent to organise my new passport.
As I stated in a earlier post the passport was posted direct to me-from Bangkok (from memory)
After it arrived I simply collected the old passport from the agent.
He was surprised
I still have it - exactly in the same condition as when I handed it to the agent.
Suspect something went wrong
More likely that your memory is faulty...

I would question that statement? my last passport, I had to travel to the UK to get it as ran out of pages, I got in Liverpool and they used the hotel directly next door to the office as my address.
Maybe they did but you were in the UK and applying in person.

Here in Pattaya we can use an agent and they are picked up by him.
This agent has to be authorised to collect the new passport and be in possession of the old passport.
3x TR visa Per year still legit ?

Theoretically no - but be aware that frequent visits do not match the profile of the usual tourist.
