    It's always the Chinese, innit?

The "Chinese" include vast numbers of formerly British dependent diligent Hong Kongers, and competent Singaporeans, both of which, frankly, I'd rather have living next door, than a western economic refugee in his Chang wife-beater.

If you had property here you'd be all for it, and the silent majority of middle class Thais with economic smarts cannot wait to sell the place off!

Since it's such a "big mistake", perhaps you could come up with some constructive answers:

    What's the alternative?

How has having thousands of empty homes in boom times helped the nation?

Who will ever buy them here if the "Chinese" and others don't?

Should they just let those assets rot out of xenophobia and "fomo" in some never-never future moment when they finally get their financial <deleted> together?

How many jobs will maintaining these once dormant assets create?

How amazing would Bangkok be if the shuttered hotels were used to house thousands of cashed up immigrants, the Cantonese from Hong Kong, bringing their industry, capitalist ethics, and wonderful cuisine here?

Take the racist Chinese blinkers off, they're not all clones of Xi.

Been out here in SEA long enough to see what happens.  Not racist, not negative, stating facts.  And it is not my job to come upnwith constructive solutions,  it's the government's job.

  2. Not saying it's right,  but the only ones complaining are the ones that don't have a lot of money.  Honestly,  if you go to the hospital in your own country I am sure its 3x's more, which is probably why he's in Thailand.   Not only that,  if you're insured you're not paying anything.   I mean, you really have no say on how someone runs their own country.  Like it or not.  Why in the world would you go stay in another country and not have health insurance then complain they charge you more.

  3. This honestly would be a big mistake.  If a foreigner wants land and have a Thai wife it can be in her name so no real need to own land here.  Problem is as soon as they make it law, the Chinese are going to come in and buy up everything and take over.  Thailand won't be the same anymore. As a foreigner even I don't agree with this.

  4. I would say before moving to Thailand really decide what you are looking for in the place you want to retire.  Every country has it's shortfalls.  Although,  in 5 years Thailand is rolling out some new home owner options for foreigners (40yrs max).  The plus about Thailand is the good food and beautiful landscapes and you can meet some really good people.  But honestly no one can really help you on this as you have to decide for yourself what it is you are looking for.   Thailand is fairly inexpensive and the food is great but ultimately living here depends on what exactly you are looking for which you may want to detail here so we can give you a better idea if this is where you want to be.

  5. If you look at the science behind each vaccine and how they work, why in the world would you mix them as they all have a different approach.   Your system will not build strong immunity until you get a second jab of whatever you got first.  That's how vaccines work.  Mixing helps nothing.  Not only that, there's no research behind Mixing two different vaccines.   Nobody knows what will happen when you mix them.  Looks like free research and development being done in Thailand.

  6. I wouldn't waste your money coming to Thailand now.  Especially through the expensive Sandbox.  Just so you know 2 days of the 14 day quarantine you have to wait in your room for PCR test results. Nothing is open.  Most of the people who come are returning expats or Thais.  People who have family or business there.  Other than that its a waist of money.  Curfew at 9pm which limits your travel around the country, crime is up more than I have seen it before, and the vibe now is totally different.   One good thing is the beaches aren't as crowded but their is only so much beach you can do before wanting to do more.  Covid is out of control in Phuket as well.

  7. It's not necessarily a Thai thing.  Take a look at the big picture.   In this region and other neighboring regions It's hard to have a serious relationship because half people aren't faithful as there are tons to choose from if someone gets bored.  That being said, they are used to relationships not lasting long and not believing someone promising them this n that.  Especially if you don't live there they sometimes assume you have a family back home.  You just have to keep trying till you find what you're looking for.  As I said, there are tons to choose from.

  8. Why not just use the Morchana tracking app they make people download for the Phuket Sandbox?  Makes no sense to go looking around for a green piece of paper to show you're vaxed.  Everyone has a smartphone by now.

I was kinda thinking that but on the other hand it seems if you take the sandbox you have a good chance of some freedom for the 14 days and the worst case isn't really that much worse than ASQ. Yeah the food's probably worse and the accommodation's probably less comfortable, but to me being confined to one place is the real kicker and that'snthe same either way. Also, isn't the extra cost covered by the covid insurance you have to take out?

I agree it makes no sense as a 14 day holiday...

Foodnis not bad at all depending on where you stay

But after 2 weeks you can move on. You knew what you were getting into. But it is disgraceful it's raining.

I won't lie, I am not really complaining.   I think the Sandbox was a good opportunity for people like me who have family here to get a chance to come and not sit in a room for 14 days in an overpriced ASQ hotel. But I will also not sugar coat this situation either.  Nothing is open (i.e. Malls, entertainment venues, etc.) .  Bars renaming themselves restaurants just to open and sell alcohol even though 90% bars are closed.  For me, if I was on holiday,  I would not want to go through all these financial hoops to come is my point.   I think its a good test bed for Thailand but not a situation where someone would pay for a holiday in quarantine.   Yes you can move around the island,  but to do what?  Most people come to Phuket for a quick run, party in Bangla, hit up Phi Phi or James Bond Island, etc. then leave.  Bangla is shut down.

I don't know about that. I think Phuket is one of the better provinces regarding looking after expats and with vaccinations.

What I find appalling is the self entitled Karens that for some reason think that we should be prioritised over the local citizens.

Harping on with non stop complaining isn't going to help the situation at all and I am embarrassed by this selfish attitude being displayed.

Speak for yourself mate, everyone I know is quite relaxed and acknowledges that we are better off here than in our home countries.

Not something I have experienced but with entitled people carrying on all the time you could hardly blame them.

We are in a pandemic, the Thais have introduced special visa arrangements for us, will be vaccinating us and have kept us safer than if we were "back home".

People need to pull their heads in, harden up, stop carrying on trying to stir up trouble and wait their turn like everyone else. This behaviour is cringeworthy ANC disgraceful.

Agreed.  If you're an expat living in Thailand you know how it is.  Remember this is not your country so don't expect another country to cater to you.  Many Thais have way worse than you in this pandemic.  If you don't like how you're being treated, leave.

Again, i'm not knocking the disabled from their rights to a better parking facilities, but unlike many other other countries that we hailed from, handicap people are not seen as frequently as in other countries, seriously, how may wheelchairs or crutches aided people do we see on a daily basis? very rarely, and that is the point i'm trying to make...

    True, I've never seen them.
