I thought they stopped doing them there on 8th March.  There was an official announcement.  Only at Immigration near the airport from 9th.

Yes, there is a sign posted at the Festival immigration office stating that they are no longer doing re-entry permits since March 8, and that you need to go to the immigration office near the airport.

Thailand is polluted, generally dirty/gritty with dangerous roads and feral dogs, that's why your Pad Thai is 1 USD and rent is 200 USD. Try to keep that in mind while you're choking on your morning run.

Singapore is a lot richer and they are choking just the same.

Cycling in groups has got to be less risk, Pickups more likely to see

Yes, groups of cyclists are more visible but they can also create bottlenecks on the road, so vehicles will attempt to overtake them and that's when the accident occurs. Numerous cycling groups have been mowed down by motorists in the past few years in Thailand and elsewhere.

As long as you travel immediately from ASQ check-out and get to CM on the same day you would avoid the need for any ASQ (or equivalent) or self isolation. Is this your understanding? Also, any idea of the costs for a driver car BKK to CM?

Yes, that is my understanding, I saw one quote for 5500 baht from BKK to CM with driver.

Won't be a problem. I've been looking into it and there are numerous e-bike stores in CM. Check out E-Rides Electric Bike Store.

Re sandbox, I hope they expand too but the tightening up of Phuket may delay roll-out. From what I've seen, I thought CM was lined up for 1st Oct. Not sure what progress the province has made towards the required 70% vaccines etc. Are you aware of any sites which provide the province level vaccine data?

I've opted for the Bangkok ASQ as the safer option. If the sandbox goes ahead in CM, I will change my flights and go down that route. If Phuket sandbox doesn't have the restrictions including onward travel, I may opt for that. A lot can and will change between now and my scheduled departure date in 12 weeks. Just got to accept that there will be challenges whatever route you go down.

Good to hear about the e-bike stores.

My final destination being Chiang Mai, I too will opt for the Bangkok ASQ. As you stated, it is safer. It also gives me three options once my ASQ is completed:

1: Hire a driver car to CM

    2: Rent a car

3: Have someone from CM come down to BKK and pick me up.

Phuket is too far away for that.

it says "lived" not live - and for a few months only - I had spent 2 months in and out of the hospital and needed to be in easy access to the hospital... I was in recovery mode but the lovely pool, exercise room and nice gardens all assisted w/a difficult time in my life...

And since you are on Avatar patrol, Mr. Searcher22... keep looking and I hope you find compassion and kindness... a touch of good humor might help you along..

I was just taking a friendly jab at you, just teasing. A lot of people would love to be just steps away from a major mall. I wouldn't have posted that  had I known what you had gone through. Anyways, I wish you the best health in these difficult times.

I'm looking forward to getting both a bicycle (possibly e-scooter) & a moped and doing the same every day. Hope you are enjoying your overnighter!

Got to get out there but do it sensibly and follow the basics (Masks / Distancing / Hygiene). The community prevalence of the virus is low per 100k.

I am also planning to buy/rent an e-scooter or power-assisted bicycle when I arrive in Chiang Mai (hoping for a sandbox in September). I hope I can get one.

I actually lived in D Condo for several months.. there was some noise but not too bad and predictable in timing.. one family would let the little children run and scream down the hallway on the way to scxhool in the morning - but I was awake and it was brief... and at night there was some music late but not long and I have no idea where it was coming from...

I did find an older very quiet friendly building in town... pm me if you want info..

my larger issue w/D Condo was no convenience store nearby... and it was a long way to go around the block.. and walking to Central for some milk was also inconvient..

You live next door to the huge Central mall but complain the walk is too long? Your avatar (FinickyOne) suits you perfectly LOL!

Farang is in common usage and has been embraced by us Westerners in the same way that gays have embraced the term queer.

Anybody taking umbrage at the word, at this stage, has mental issues and deserves our sympathy.

All farangs are foreigners, but not all foreigners are farangs. Arabs, Africans, Asians, or Eskimos are not farangs.

Therefore, the infected foreigner was not necessarily a farang.

However, I do take umbrage at your use of the word "Eskimo."  Nowadays, it is considered a pejorative term. ????

Thanks for that. It is a promotion and a good price at that, will try to get some.

The casino expresso used to be my go to ground coffee when it was 125 baht per 250g. Then bic c started rapid increasing the price of this coffee, 1st to 165 baht then up to and the price stabilised at 195 baht.

After the increase to 165 baht I stopped buying it as there are many other good ground coffees one can buy for around 110 baht per 250g.

The Casino Colombian and Brazil brands were my go-to coffees until the price skyrocketed two or three years ago. I switched to Hillkoff coffee. Tasty and good value.

it doesn't mean people will flood back into International holidays,, remember the people who have kept their jobs have been working at home or been on furlough. So having very recently spent months effectively out of work they are hardly going to go on holiday. Secondly, many have lost their jobs and dont have the money. Third, the people are nervous about travelling as it is still such a live, rampant virus. Lastly, even people who are still working will be ensuring they keep their jobs and not throwing money on expensive holidays, more likely they will put a bit away and wait for a year or 2... for those who do travel you are absolutely right nobody is going to put up with restrictions of Thailand, there are many other choices..

While this may be true, there's also a flip side: People have been stuck at home for the past five months and are yearning for an escape, even if it might cost them.

  12. I just checked a list of countries that have reopened For Canadian tourists or are about to. Vast choice of countries in Europe and the Caribbean zone with no major restrictions. No quarantine jail upon arrival and no testing required except for one pre-flight test and sometimes a quick post-flight test.

For example, Brazil and Mexico have virtually no restrictions, and visas are not required for stays under three months . Cuba offers a range of island destinations and requires Canadians to be tested upon arrival (at no charge).

Looks like Thailand may be facing some stiff competition in the next few months.

We are retiree’s with a home (owned) to run and a life to lead, our average spend per month is 80-85k into the local economy, ( Hua Hin) We made the mistake of flying home to Ireland directly after visiting our grandson in Australia on March 2nd for business reasons, we both have our health, wealth and the desire to return back to HH. Why the hell are we being excluded? Mad.

Same situation in Canada. Americans are barred from entering Canada, even those who have homes and cottages there that need to be maintained. Sad situation indeed.

Why should a multi billionaire receive the same as poor old Somchai that sharpens knifes....we all know who the honest hard working tax payers that have been hit the hardest are....that's where it needs to go the most.

Because means-testing requires an extensive bureaucracy and many people still fall through the cracks. Give everyone a basic amount and anyone above a certain income will be asked to pay it back at income tax time.

Expecting a vaccine any quicker than 18 months is not realistic either.

We won't necessarily have to wait for a vaccine. There are some promising drugs, cheap and easy-to-produce, that will likely be made available within 4-5 months that will lessen the severity of the corona virus. So for most patients, instead of dying, they will just fall sick for a while.

Your 800,000 is covered by the banking guarantee. Normally I would say its safe. However Ive already withdrawn all my funds as we have never been in a situation like this. Stories abound from other countries in lock downs where ATMs are empty, banks are closed....Thinga are going to get a lot worse befoe they get better with talk of month a brat her than weeks....your decision but I prefer my money not to be in a Thai bank at present

I remember reading somewhere that a client, victim of theft, was denied compensation for his loss under the bank guarantee because it was the result of employee theft and not bank failure. I hope I'm wrong.
