It'll be interesting to see if there is a mass exodus of Chinese from China. At the moment the streets are empty, the malls are largely empty, few are moving. Add to that the fact that they literally sh*t the bed and run from any foreigners would lead me to wonder if they'll be on the move en masse anytime soon.

I'm afraid you are being mislead.
It might take some time before you can get approved to work and enter.
A few hoops to jump but doable.

I've had a number of Job interviews for work in Vietnam recently and another on Tuesday coming. So far they've all indicated that visas are not a problem. I'll wait and see when I decide if I'm taking up any of the current offers!

<deleted> here's me sat here on the other side of the world awaiting a job interview for Yangon! I get the impression that a higher power wishes me to stay out of SE Asia.
Job in Pattaya = Pandemic
Job in Myanmar = Coup
What next? A Cambodian chaotic conflagration!

Interesting post, but you do not mention the fact that viruses mutate, rapidly. In fact, coronavirus has already mutated, several times over.
Coronavirus needs to be controlled / eradicated BEFORE it can mutate into a virus that if you are infected, YOU ARE DEAD. Think, Ebola, and similar.
You bang on about the death stats, but they are only relevant to the current variants of coronavirus circulating the global. Let it breed up and mutate, and the death toll could be billions from a new strain.
Do you think the above is "high level marketing and propaganda" or science and biology?
Did you read that before you posted. A virus ....erm.....BREEDING!

Change of subject, just saw on tv in OZ the protests in BKK tonight, thousands of people.
stay safe everyone, let’s hope sanity prevails.
the world is watching
Channel 4 UK had a damning doc with regards to a certain VIP living in Germany last night....I'll not post a link but it had me in stitches.
I think it'll be a very long time before I even consider a visit to LOS .....Neighbouring countries are the lure now.

It has been my plan for sometime to relocate to Thailand from UK, at long last I was putting my plan in order around February 2020 by applying for an "O" 90 day visa to be followed by a 12 month retirement visa. My research was thorough and I had all the credentials but sadly only 10 days before my application was due UK, and most of the world, closed its borders and my Thai dream was cruelly denied.
I was uplifted when the new STV was announced and immediately researched the detail and although the process is riddled with "red tape" I decided to send my details to the Thai Government agency and see what happened. Two days later I received an email saying I was successful plus necessary information for the application processing fee payment. The day after sending the fee I received another email to say "UK is a high risk Covid 19 country and my application cannot be considered at the moment. We have listed your details and will contact you in due course" Suffice to say deflating!!
So clearly if you are thinking of applying and you are in UK or another "high risk" country don't bother for the foreseeable future . . . . that is unless anyone else can tell me something different.
Andrew
I feel your pain!
I accepted a Teaching post for an initial two year stint in Thailand with a view to relocating to S.E Asia if all worked out positive. I'll be 56 in a week so retirement isn't far off either.
I applied for and was granted a career break from my current position here in UK. Long story short is that the nonsense, hoops, more nonsense, costs and more costs made it impossible to fulfil not to mention the on off nature of dealing with the RTE here.
I now find myself unemployed here as one of the conditions of a career break is that I am not permitted to work here as it constitutes a breach of contract and would adversely affect my Pension! Even during the rather exceptional circumstances of a global pandemic I am basically told tough it out for the moment. Going from a full teaching salary at the top of my scale to zero is just a bit of a pisser!
Will I visit Thailand in the future....I'm not sure at the moment. For me it was to be a little experiment with a view to hopping around S.E. Asia during holidays. I can't help thinking that it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Those expats loving their 'full English', beer bars, beaches and footie screens will probably be loving it at the mo....me....I hate all that and would prefer to be eating Som Tom in a hut in the jungle.
Maybe I'll get a chance for an extended holiday in Malaysia, Laos or VN next year but I doubt I'll be moving out there.

Thai Consulate Ireland is closed. Good luck with London Embassy. If you are planning to head out good luck with flights as I've had a few cancelled. Factor in between 3-6k GBP before you've had a chang!
Oh and buy lots of paper....you'll need it.

Emirates cancelled my August flight. I am still awaiting a refund or voucher from them.
As for jumping the hoops to Thailand....nope....I tried but it just wasn't worth it. AT a rough estimate it was going to cost around £5000 depending on my luck with flight costs etc. That works out at almost 1/3 of the salary I stood to earn in LOS.
Add to that the bleak outlook for the country and the fact that I would still have some bills to pay here whilst away it is a fools errand.
The lure for me was the heat, the food and the ability to hop around S.E. Asia. Pipe dreams now. I get the impression that things are going to get very very grim soon.

I never stopped buying vinyl and have been at it from 1978 or thereabouts. I do sell a bit now and then to fund more lol.
I also have a considerable collection of music stored digitally and a few boxes of Cd's here as well.
If it's well recorded, mastered and pressed etc there is no contest...vinyl every time. It's expensive though and if you don't have at least a half decent TT it really isn't worth the hassle.
One of the things that makes me laugh is the recent upsurge in vinyl interest and comments like 'aah nothing like the old crackle and pop of a record player'. Nope that boils my pish.....No clicks pops or scratches for me.....inky blackness between tracks!

One of the ways in which Covid-19 has been misreported around the world is the failure to report ‘serious cases’.
Also, ‘died with Covid-19’ has been used very poorly, when 'died due to complications resulting from Covid-19’ would be far more accurate and would prevent those 'who’ve been eaten by an alligator' from being counted in the stats...i.e. those with stage 4 cancer, brain haemorrhage etc who also had Covid-19 (asymptomatic) impacted the stats - CDC announced 94% of Covid-19 deaths involved comorbidity, of those we have no idea how many died as a direct result of Covid-19... i.e. 'died due to complications resulting from Covid-19’
One of the best ways to measure and report Covid-19 would be Covid-19 cases which require admission to a hospital for treatment.
Absolutely this! In my hometown here we had four deaths in our local hospital this week. The media reported 'Four people die with COVID in local hospital'. Of course when you read through the report you find in small print....'COVID was not the cause of death'. Shamefull reporting!
I've been trying to jump the hoops still to get out to LOS and take up a job.....this week was the last straw.....to get a Covid Test I was directed to either Stranraer or Carlisle! I live in N. Ireland.
This nonsense coupled with the belief that LOS is about to go really tits up has completely put me off.....

A truly incredible place though the last couple of times I visited the crowds at the main temples made the experience very unpleasant. I actually had to lift a small Chinese lady out of my way to avoid the risk of being blinded by her parasol as she continued to hit me in the face with it! Completely oblivious to the fact that she was backing into me.

Headline in my local news last night. Three deaths here in my town at the hospital. The headline said three people have died with COVID. I read the article and find out that the primary cause of death was not COVID.
Shoddy shoddy journalism and of course our local politicians were wringing their hands in woe at the terrible terrible virus!
