his government and the United States have lost 10 valuable weeks to prevent the outbreak

W.H.O reported Covid-19 on Dec 31 2019 - Trump announced the travel restriction 30 days later.

Despite that announcement your own prime minister Erna Solberg of Norway sat on her hands for the entire month of February and half of March, until finally closing Norway's boarders on 16 March. A full 45 days after Trump's announcement and 75 days after W.H.O's announcement.

You judge Trump's action harshly but it wasn't called a pandemic from the beginning and hindsight is always 20 20.

  2. Banks providing fixed deposit accounts are usually able to absorb instructions as what to do with the funds upon maturity.

'At maturity, the Bank will automatically roll-over the deposit to a three-month fixed term deposit using the interest rate available at that time under the Bank’s conditions, provided that a depositor has not withdrawn any money from the account, or issued a subsequent instruction.'  https://www.bangkokbank.com/en/Personal/Save-And-Invest/Save/Deposit-Campaign

Your subsequent instruction would be to transfer the money upon maturity to another account you currently hold - with a lesser amount that you're comfortable with,  and then share that account's pin + card to your Mrs. Then repeat this cycle in perpetuity.

the reaction is worse than the virus IMO.

As I understand Covid19 leads to pneumonia and then ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome) when the lungs getting more and more inflamed.

The difference is with Covid19, ARDS seems to happen overnight. Doctors reporting patients gasping for air with pink frothy secretions coming out of the ventilator tube and out of the patients’ mouth.

The pink froth secretion is blood cells that are leaking into their airways.

The patients feel like the ventilator is chocking them so they want to tear it off but they're not choking, they're drowning in their own blood.

I could be wrong but initial reports suggest you can't exactly sweat it out with a slab of VB in the sauna.

  4. Gold bullion stacking:

I'm curious if there are any gold stackers that argue it's worth paying the 7% duty for importing gold bullion from overseas versus buying the local Thai stuff?

I'm well aware of the 99.9% versus 96.5% differences and such. I think many would agree it feels more secure having an 1 oz gold maple, american gold eagle, krugerand in hand versus a Thai brand/no brand produced in Thailand.

E.g you can buy online at APMEX which is a very trusted old online dealer.

I'm kinda weary that given how plain Thai bullions look like it would be so easy to fake and while it may not be common it would be so easy for the dealers to slip a few fake in there on a slow month.

    Any thoughts?

Hundreds of people from all over the world gathered in extremely close proximity for hours and hours?

I just rocked up with the Mrs to the local migration office for my 90 day renewal.

6 months late to report this time due to some boring reason. Not sure it would be 2k fine or even the theoretical 5k given my lateness.

Place was packed. unreal. It's out in the sticks so there's an even smaller waiting room within the main building just for 90 day extensions.

10 people crammed just in that room! I grabbed a waiting ticket and told the lady standing by the door:

'I'll wait outside come get me' without even looking at her or waiting for her reply - and I was wearing my sunglasses and a mask.

To my surprise she did just that! She actually came out and fetched me when my number came up.

The Missues managed to sweet talk them so the 2 k fine was lowered to just 1 k !  so sorrrrrry kaaaaaaa.

Me going 'yea totally it'll never happen again..' ????   All in all not a bad day.  All I need to do now is wait 2 or 3 weeks to find out if i contracted Covid19 and then i'm good til next time.

If anyone is late with the 90 day and got a wife laying around , I'd definitely recommend bringing her.

    64yrs

If you let a bar-girls hand slide into your pants and hold your member, a tip is expected.

Yea she took the opportunity to ask for too much but there are classier way to handle and deflate the situation.

First chance to deflate the drama:
He could've quickly finished his drink, pay the for the drinks, put 500 THB in her hand, and given her a funny compliment for her to ponder over - and made a gentlemanly exit.
Instead it sounds as if he got all upset and said blank no to her and she kicked up a storm.

He can't read the situation at the tender age of 64..?

Second chance to deflate the drama:

Cops still roll up as he's leaving exclaiming 'you pay 4 k now' .

Answer: yes sure, you take credit card, no? sorry about that - over there ATM, take out money for you.

There you go, here's 5k, extra for you No really, I insist, my bad.  Money for water in office. Today I headache.
    He wouldve gotten away clean.

    Instead?
Jesus, now he got a jail record. A night in jail! Unbelievable.

I believe there are legal forms used for various purposes where you can't have a record of arrest e.g applying for permanent resident character related papers stuff like that.

Now he has to worry about it.

I feel she prioritizes her family over me all the time

If you take this social pressure to support family and relatives and conclude your wife doesn't love you as much, you're mistaken. It's also the the Asian group think versus western individualism.

She knew she wouldn't jeopardize the relationship by taking out the 100 k without your consent. So she can have the cake and eat it too.

If you have a couple of mil in one account you could use the excuse that the bank's insurance level per account and bank is actually just 1 million, which happens to be true for most banks.

So it's wise to arrange so each book bank is not more than 1 million anyway. Plus for migration and/or if you ever want to incorporate a company (need around 2 million) its always wise to keep the money in your name for those reasons too.

But I feel ya, At one stage I had a bag of 40 or 50 Megadeath and similar t-shirts I kept for some reason sitting in my Mrs and my house.

One day while I was away my wife generously gave the whole bag of t-shirts away to her sister to donate to random peeps or for selling at local markets or anything. She didn't even tell me and I didn't realize until 6 months later.  Trust me, I did not approve of this maneuver!

But to avoid her taking the shirt off your back like me, keep your savings separate!

    organise visa runs.

The organized visa runs got a terrible reputation. They cram as many farangs they can into a minivan and drive like they've just stole the van. No smiles and before leaving bkk you need to make loops around town picking up every man and his dog from their hotels which takes for aaaages.  I'd tell anyone reading this to organize your own visa run.

Any other suggestions for "safe" countries to do a visa run in? By safe I mean in terms of the potential for entrance restrictions.

Did you look into Laos ? I think Israelis used to get visa exempt entry but that kinda stuff changes all the time but google is your friend.

If you chose Cambodia, you could drive (rent if needed) up to PoiPet instead of flying to PNH and park on the Thai side and cross the border there.  Yes it's a s.hole but If I had to select between getting harassed by hustler at the PoiPet border - but who is otherwise healthy,  and random people coughing at me at the international airport or in the plane where there's no escape. I know what I'd pick.  I was there last year , wasn't any drama. Float around in the pool in an empty hotel while having brew for 2 days and then return and avoid the hustle n bustle of PNH that's my advise.

there is not a cat in hells chance I would self isolate.

The bloke posting the question is travelling from Australia and the PM of Australia has announced self-isolation is no longer a “voluntary arrangement”.

'Morrison said that – until now – self-isolation had been a “voluntary arrangement” with “no potential sanction against a person for not following that requirement”.

“That will change,” he said, although penalties will be “a matter for the states and territories”.

“If your mate has been to Bali and they come back and they turn up at work and they are sitting next to you, they will be committing an offence.

    Should we stop travelling???

"Returning to Australia from a high-risk country

Australian citizens, permanent residents and their immediate family, and airline crews can enter Australia from these countries - but you’ll need to isolate yourself at home for 14 days from the date you left the affected country. "   https://www.smartraveller.gov.au/COVID-19-australian-travellers#returning

You may be required to isolate yourself on return to Australia which means you can't return to work for 2 weeks.

This may/may not change with short notice if its indeed so.
Just based on that alone I wouldn't chose to travel now.

Plus, it's not exactly a party atmosphere around town, many people wearing masks in general.
Just got back from the store (Makro) and they were checking all customers upon entry to see if anyone was running a fever in which case you couldn't get in I suppose.  ????
