Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul accuses his Bhumjaithai party of being deceived in parliament concerning a bill related to the decriminalisation of cannabis. Despite passing the initial reading, the bill has faced obstruction, leaving the party feeling misled.
Anutin emphasizes the medical benefits of cannabis, urging opponents to provide evidence of any negative effects. The absence of clear regulations governing cannabis usage presents a significant challenge.
The authority to reclassify cannabis rests with the Narcotic Prevention and Suppression Board and the Narcotic Control Committee.
Although no longer overseeing the Ministry of Public Health, Anutin remains a member of the Narcotic Prevention and Suppression Board and pledges to provide scientific evidence supporting the benefits of cannabis.
The final decision on cannabis classification lies in the hands of the board and the Narcotic Control Committee.
Existing cannabis retailers operate under the Ministry of Public Health's regulations, as confirmed by Anutin.

To be fair, if they are pushing back against him there, he likely is on the way out, which is good, because he despises us foreigners.

Not really.
Under Thai law, if you divorce your wife you / she gets 50% each.
Under Thai law - In court. The justice system here follows the law... no whims of a Thai in the court room... there's three judges for that reason.
Under Thai law if you use a company, it's 49% ownership opposed to 51%.

I'm trying to prepare for what may be ahead. However, I found few first-hand accounts online of what everyday life was like for expats during that time (aside from high-level economic analysis).
What was it like living in Thailand (as a retiree, business owner, or long-stay expat) after the 1997 economic crash? What might current foreign residents expect if the economy crashes?
Aside from a weaker baht (and more favorable exchange rates), what were the pros, cons, upsides, and downsides for expats who lived through the crisis? Will rental rates come down? Did crime rates go up? Did the cost of living for expats (who earn and remit money from outside Thailand), get easier, or were there other financial challenges for foreigners, even those who were not earning money inside Thailand?
Were there opportunities (during the downturn) to start and run a business in Thailand? Did the weaker baht lend itself to starting an export business, for example?
In short, it would be great to see how the last crisis played out to help expats strategically prepare. How can foreign residents protect themselves and seize opportunities, based on what we saw in 1997?
Thailand need not worry, it's the US, Western State debt bubble this time round - that's where you need to be concerned, and with Basel 3 - Forced Bail In's.

29-year-old Jamie Louis Swain from Enfield, North London, could face up to twenty years in a Thai prison after reportedly being caught with cocaine hidden in his passport. Swain was arrested at Phuket International Airport on his arrival from an Etihad Airways flight on Thursday night.
An immigration officer discovered a small plastic bag filled with white powder in Swain’s passport during routine checks for visa stamping. Authorities confirmed the substance was 0.42 grams of cocaine. Swain's questionable reaction to the discovery led to a further search of his luggage.
Swain was charged with importing and possessing category II narcotics, namely cocaine, a violation of Thailand's Narcotics Act. This crime could lead to a maximum sentence of 20 years to life in jail, along with a fine between 2,000,000 – 5,000,000 Baht (£43,000 to £108,000).
In addition to this, cocaine possession is punishable with up to five years or up to a 100,000 Baht (£2,000) fine in Thailand. Swain's case has been turned over to Sakhu Police Station for further legal action.

Makes me wonder if he had any disagreements at home, and someone slipped it in, as that's kinda stupid.

We've got two 30m wells.
-New One (Empty) can get about 30mins of water a day (services the garden/pool).
-Old one - No issues (services the home).
-Just arranged for a bore well (100m) going in this month.
-Currently have 1-5 trucks of water a week (300 baht a load) delivered (building) but will also likely start collecting water instead of sending it down the road.
Been getting worse and worse over the past five years.

Surely the fact that they've followed it for x years means it was considered legitimate, and therefore not up for dispute.

Saw it on FB. It shows a number of typical Thai driving antics that lead to accidents.
Slow truck in the right (fast) lane which won't move left. Hyper-aggressive drivers. Road rage. Complete inability to read the road ahead of your own vehicle...
And - BAM. It could have been worse.Hence i always sit in the fast lane between 60-80, the <deleted> can do their <deleted> in the left lane, they normally get the hint after a while that i am not budging and routinely use my breaks so not wise to sit in my arse.

this morning when I was about to take out the trash I saw a thai person sitting in front of my gate.
he was actually leaning on the gate itself
I don't know who they were but he was sat down playing with his phone.
I polite asked him to move
which he did,
but he also swore at me in Thai and kicked my gate.
I think he may have been drunk.
just to be clear, this is a private residence and his back was leaning on my gate.
This whole situation has caused me a great deal of stress,
I hope I will be OK.
bob.
Just ensure the gate is on your property... otherwise end up like that swiss dick.

Is it true that the consensus feeling is that a majority of Thai nationals do not file tax returns who are required to file them?
I feel that like many things here the rules are not enforced, in reality, would you think this is true in regards to thais filing tax returns?
very curious about this.
Yes, and they earn enough money for the lower band tax.
Easier to go after low hanging fruit (foreigners).

I concur with this.
Logic dictates the 'dick' considered the steps to be part of the rental property title - who in their right mind builds outside of the property.Logic dictates the 'dick' would ask politely or rudely the person sitting on them to remove themselves from the property he is renting.
Logic dictates it needs to be determined whether he 'kicked' or 'tripped'.
Therefore logic dictates if he tripped he is merely wrong for rudely telling the Thai to remove their arse from the steps of the property which turned out wasn't part of the property = slap on the wrist.
If it was a kick, then under Thai law = fine.
To revoke a visa based on both media narrative, riling up the plebs, and before its been determined if the 'kick was a kick' is ridiculous and goes against a rules based legal system.
But this is Thailand.
Ask a Thai if they see the video and kick = 'I believe it was a kick', not 'it was a kick'.

I have had my suitcases checked many times at airports but never had the cavity search.
Boogie boards are no good either.
Usually they have you flagged... swarm in from all sides when you collect the suitcase and pass through the customs neck point.
Had happen to us in 2014.
