I have insurance through the Bangkok Bank and I am 76. As it was explained to me by the international transfer manager, I am only covered for accidents and not covered for pre-existing ailments. Premium 5000 baht per year. The way that Thai's drive and ride their bikes it is easy to have an accident and if the Thai is at fault then they never have money to pay for accidents. I have had a fall and broke my wrist and the Bangkok Bank insurance paid for everything. It is not health insurance. Accident only.

for the price of the insurance  policy the total liability is very low, I'm told that the company will only pay the first 50 to 60K baht of any claim so minor accidents only, need major healthcare and ure on ure own

Facilities that are built tend to be neglected and fall into disrepair. One need only look at the pathetic condition of the childrens playground, Jomtien Beach, across from the night market. Having been closed for months due to the latest, it would seem a perfect time to repair the rubberized play surface and other areas within.

Talk about a bad image. That includes the stained and filthy Jomtien Beach promanade footpath. Someone ought to invent a pathway scrubber/cleaner. Oh wait!...it has been invented. If it we here, it most likely would break down due to neglect and lack of maintenance.

saw a group of thais having a BBQ on the rubberized play area  inside the playground not long after it opened, you can still see the melted hole from their BBQ just inside the enterance

Guess you don't know much about it, it is indeed high up immigration officers asking more, as they do a really good job. The visa will be legal and properly without even having to visit, they photoshop photos into the database too. Money will also be deposited.

The cheap agents on the other end, are often fake and illegal visa extensions OR done by a lower ranking officer, who can easily get caught. Most expensive agents will not only be expensive but also look into you in detail, your situation and best suitable visa solution, before accepting you aboard. Upside is that their renewals are not as expensive, once you are in the system.

So lower ranking officers might get caught but higher ranking officers will not?

All these visas costing ×20 to ×30 the proper cost are ILLEGAL regardless of which criminal agent supplies it.

The rules went south before that event - the "crackdown" on visa-exempts shuttered entire sois of businesses.  More closed-up as they "cracked down" more.

As to China, its about more than tourism.  The West let "our" (sic) businesses set up shop with the CCP, and the Thais saw which way the wind was blowing.  They tend to work with whoever has power in this region, for the sake of their own survival.  We have our own sellout-govts/businesses to blame for this.

I don't see why Thailand would have a "reputation" on this, these days.  Look at Germany, Spain, etc - same offerings there and out in the open.  Everywhere has "parts of town" with this or that.  Thai society is more conservative than those,  generally.

And if that were the issue, they'd crack down on that activity (they haven't) - not throw out visitors who spend money into their economy in "crackdowns."   It has a lot to do with China - who wants us gone - as per above.

Of course every country now has it's red light businesses but Thailand gained it's reputation way ahead of the rest and it stuck.  Now hi so Thais want to be able to brush any comments away with " oh that was in grandpa's time, we've moved on" .

As to cleaning up the activity take a look around pattaya or pat pong tonight, the clean up is well under way.

"Government" (think about that in Thailand-context) "never had the time or opportunity" to remove MOST of their own income streams?   They didn't pay good money for those jobs for the salary.
    Don't hold your breath.

The hi so elite families who sponser and control this government have lost enough face internationally with the sexpat reputation  Thailand has recieved from western tourists over the decades. Cue the ever tightining of visa rules since the coup and the tourism push towards China. Mega rich Thais are fed up with the "sexy sexy cheepie cheepie" sniggering when they try to intragate into equally wealthy society in London, New Youk etc.

I even know some westerners who do not admit to coming to Thai for holiday so as to avoid same, they say going to Dubai or Hong Kong etc.

If the mega rich 3% want it to happen, it will happen.

    Changed times.

You're scaremongering, I have read many posts on this forum over the past few years.

Has this ever happened in the history of the whole bank requirements, and the hundreds of agents/lawyers that offer such services?

It doesn't matter how hard you pray, or how many times you comment about it.. It doesn't mean it will happen.

Some of these agents have been offering those services for over 15 years.

It has never happened before so it never will?

Covid never happened before but it's here.

Borders were never totally closed before but they are.

Government never had the time or opportunity before but they have.

Many people use agents for this purpose. Where are you located?

You would need to think carefully, heard a wimper that as soon as this government has cleared out all the amnesty tourists on 26th they are intending to take a trawl through all recently approved visas double checking bank accounts etc and calling in anyone whose paperwork dos'nt add up.

Thanks for the map.......looks like one can see it from a back road.....I not see anything from SECOND ROAD !!!

Can not be seen from 2nd road ,OR any other main road.  You have to turn into the small soi between the "built for china" buffett bbqs and travel on past the fishing park.

Maybe come in usefull for the chinese hordes when they return  to dander down and relieve themselves after they decimate the prawn buffets.

Is that because they are a woman, a Thai or both?

I would bet you are just making this up. Were this true, they would not be able to rent a car in the UK.

To be clear,  no one could drive in the UK on a Thai license in indefinitely.

This is true, UK insurance companies do not accept Thai licence, the only way a Thai can be legal in UK is to rent a car, car rental companies have special policies to cover international tourists.

Personally I have a motor traders policy for 40 years and have added extra drivers many times with no problems but they would not accept a Thai licence and my broker could not find an other company who would. E U licence only.

U should be getting the Visa or Mastercard exchange rate whichever the card is and, without any charges, is hard to beat. Just be careful by checking the receipt that the store's bank isnt applying their rubbish exchange rate which happened to me once at a 'Global' DIY store, and once when hiring a car. If the receipt shows an exchange rate then reject it and pay cash.

Until the day when cash is withdrawn and you find yourself in a totally cashless society, coming soon because " it's so easy, so quick, so convienent etc etc... no cash back up and you are totally at the mercy of the bankers who will no longer have to print, distribute, secure and dispose of cash, just a few digits onto their central bank screens and distributed digitally and everyone will have no option but to pay the charges they set.

Due to dual pricing, Thailand has lost tens of thousands of baht over the years just from me...friends family visiting never go...how many others are the same...must be into millions of baht, although I suppose that is recouped by the ones that pay.

Same here, Thai friends know that attempts to subject me to blatent Thai greed and racism would only put me instantly into a very bad mood so they will never suggest we visit one of these rip off "attractions"

It would work for a Briton without a UK license, yes? Assuming they are not without a UK license because it has been revoked.

Could not get any UK car insurance company to provide cover for Thai lady with 5 year Thai licence and International permit. Only EU licence holders could be insured.

I recently witnessed the "gf" of a fellow foreigner back at "work" and he had only just landed in his home country! Only surprised at how soon she moved on.

Reminds me of the passenger beside me on the pattaya coach from airport, was waving, crying, blowing kisses etc to her beloved standing with his suitcases outside before the bus moved then as soon as we turned the first corner to exit the airport she spun round in her seat to face me " where you go ? How long you stay Thailand ? You look for good lady...........
