A few months ago I went from driving a twist and go automatic to a much larger (in terms of cc) and heavier, manual motorcycle.

You haven't actually said what type of manual you are thinking of purchasing so maybe the size/weight factors that I initially struggled with don't apply in your case.

If possible, as post #2 says, try to find a quiet place to practice first and the first thing I would practice is stopping and starting. May sound boring but it really is important to get the feel of the clutch, slowly releasing it until you get the feel of where it starts to engage the gears. Just keep doing that, going 15-20 metres and then stopping without actually changing up from first gear. Gets you used to where the "friction zone" is and pulling in the clutch when you are slowing down to a stop.

If you have a centre stand, you can practice getting a feel for the clutch with the bike on the centre stand.

To be quite honest... I dont know much as to what type of manual it would be. Since im a beginner I'd go for 150cc most likely.

Thank U for the advice , ill work on stopping/starting to get a feel of things. Much appreciated

  2. Hi Everyone,

I'm wondering if any of you can offer up some advice on the best way I can go about learning to ride a manual motorcycle (how to use the various gears etc).

I already know how to drive the typical automatic scooter that U can rent on the islands/chiang mai, but I've been long interested in learning to ride manual as I reside in Thailand or Vietnam.

Wondering what's the best way to go about that whilst living in BKK?

    Thanks,

  3. I was wondering if I can just get some clarity regarding my visa situation/auto extension.

Came in January 18th on 2 month Tourist visa. Then in March I extended 30 days (non-covid regular extension). Now my visa is set to expire April 16th according to stamp.

This means I get the automatic extension till April 30th correct?

Hope it's fine i posted this here, I didnt want to create another thread for this.

Yes, I see now on the Thai Immigration website that "k" window people are directed to Muang Thong Thani. I hope it's obvious WHERE, because that exhibition center is large with a bunch of different buildings. (I imagine there'll be people and signs.)

I also now understand there should be a bus from the BTS directly there.

I'm going to stroll on down by 8am tomorrow. Let's see who spends more time there.

Which bus number would that be ? Was debating doing taxi from Mo chit

From my understanding, your list is good. I HOPE so, because I will make the same trip tomorrow with the same visa situation! Supposedly, if you've entered on a TV before March 1, you just follow the regular procedure for a visa extension.

Will you go to the regular office at Chaeng Watthana? or go directly to the area they've set up nearby at Muang Thong Thani? (And if so, how will you get there?)

I'll be heading to Muang Thong Thani, that's where Tourist visa extensions are from my understand.

5am taking BTS to Mo Chit, then doing Grab Car lol. No other way I guess. Definitely want to be there early, so i dont get turned away after the first 1000 visitors. Just wanna get this done ahha.

  6. Quick question for those that've done a 2nd extension. I'm going to be doing mine tomorrow. I just wanted to double check that I have all the right documents for 2nd extension for Tourist visa. This will be done here in Bangkok

    - TM7 filled form and photocopy

    - 2x Passport photos
    - 2 copies of Passport ID Page, 2 copies of Visa & entry stamp page, 2 copies of TM6 card

    - Embassy letter printed and copy of it

Did I miss anything? Please let me know just so I don't get turned away at 5am

The Canadian Embassy is issuing the letters effective today.

From an email I received from the Canadian Embassy yesterday:
    "VISA EXTENSION REQUESTS
The Government of Canada has advised all Canadians to cancel non-essential travel abroad and for Canadian travellers to consider returning home.  Assisting Canadians attempting to return to Canada remains a top priority for Consular personnel. We recognize, however, that options for return to Canada are rapidly diminishing and that some Canadians are resident abroad on a long-term basis. In this context, the Embassy will, as of April 1, undertake to provide supporting letters for Canadians seeking visa extensions in Thailand.

For all such requests, we would kindly ask that you contact the Embassy via email, at [email protected], and not to appear in person
    ."

Awesome, only thing is i filled out the affadavit on March 30th at the embassy myself... still waiting on the email to be sent to me in order to print out and take to IO. Thing is that now the IO is requesting residence documents and landlord to come with you to the office... ridiculous.

Ha. My first every trip to Canada. Was your independence day. Celebration in huge park. Was drinking with Canadian family in closed off area. Their kids couldn't come in because of alcohol restrictions.

I thought au was stuffed up joint. You guys raise the bar.

Back to topic. Are Canadian folk able to obtain the golden letter for 30 day extension?

Was at embassy yesterday me and other. Filled out papers for it. Then we were told ... wait for email with response if approved. 36hrs later and still waiting. It's like this with other people i've spoken to. Seems that the embassy is asking for various documents and proof in order to give you that silly letter in order to extend 30 days.

That's because Au embassy is an absolute joke. Worst of the lot. They do not do residence certificate. They do not do stat Dec. (USA call affidavit). They do stuff all.

    I can list more.

    BTW I'm oz.

I take your Oz embassy and raise you the Canadian embassy...... in times like this, to stamp an affidavit, they're wanting proof of residency and other <deleted>. U fill it out, wait 3hrs in embassy then they give U back your passport and tell you you'll get an email later today or tomorrow. Only for it to not come. Canada eh!!

a lot of people will be doing the 89 day overstay. guaranteed.

or until a border is open.

Yup, was thinking the same... in the case my Canadian embassy wont provide a letter to extend (which they haven't yet, and theyre delaying on several others as well and starting to require hoops to jump through), and in the event that the Thai government wont change anything, which is quite likely. Hopefully in 89 days ... Some border nearby opens up to head there.
