  1. When we built an extension some years ago the architect selected flat concrete slab roof and I thought no more about it. But my guests complained that the bedroom was excessively hot, so when I had the roofers in to replace the existing tiled roof I got them to add a second, zincalume/galvalume steel, roof over the flat roof. The improvement is substantial.
I would not recommend welded steel for the frame. The standard for galvalume is to use galvalume C section which can be screwed together with self tapping screws and the sheet screwed to it.

As it stands this is too little information (maybe the article made clear). "Efficacy" against what? Death, hospitalisation, or symptoms? As far as I am aware AZ is close to 100% effective against death; I'm getting mine next week.

    If you are from Malaysia...

Just travel by land and walk across the border.

Last year when I was stuck in Thailand I applied to cross the border to Malaysia; it took about a month to approve, and a flight left the following day so I never used it. I recollect the land crossings were forbidden later, but maybe not for Malaysian citizens.

The average life expectancy at age 65, in the US, is 89.

Do not confuse life expectancy at birth with life expectancy at later ages.

    The approach used ignores:

Firstly, the average age of death of 78 is for the whole world population. But those considering retirement with savings of over USD1/4m will be only from the developed world, where average life expectancy is in the 80-82 year range. So add say 3 years to their numbers or 20%.

    https://www.ssa.gov/oact/STATS/table4c6.html

Then as already identified, if you are considering these calculations you are probably in your 60’s, and are not one of a set of “all population” but of a set of “those who have survived to 64 (say)", so your life expectancy is higher than 80-82. Those actuarial tables show that at 65 average life expectancy is 17.89 years for males, or age 83. So add another 2 years so now we are talking around 30% increase.

But these calculations are for AVERAGE life expectancy. So there is a 50% chance you will live longer, and therefore run out of money. To be reasonably certain you would want to look to a 90-95% probability level, which would take you roughly to age 91 – another 8 years and now we are up to about 100% increase.

I guess you could cut down on the western meals when you hit 80??

If you tell the taxman you no longer live in the UK and become non resident for tax I am not sure why you need to pay any tax to the UK unless earned from UK customers?

Re comment bolded: AFAIK UK does not require deduction of withholding tax on services, except in very restricted cases which would not apply here. If the OP is Resident for Tax Purposes in the UK then yes, but why would he/she be?

    Usual disclaimer......

My 2 cents........I don't think there is any difference to digital assets or fiat money at the end of the day as far as the Thai Revenue are concerned. Same rules you have read on other recent threads - don't bring in income in calendar year it is earned and if you do it is not income it is savings......

If you tell the taxman you no longer live in the UK and become non resident for tax I am not sure why you need to pay any tax to the UK unless earned from UK customers? That would be helped if you opened an offshore account for the German company to pay into.

    My 1 cent:
I've not read all the detail in recent threads so this may be answered, but does the rule on earnings vs savings remittance apply to Thai citizens as well as expats?
Agreed an offshore account may be the best solution (I use Channel Islands), but I wonder whether the payment Germany>UK would (pre Brexit) have avoided the German company deducting a withholding tax, which many countries require for offshore payments of this type. Moving to an offshore account (or even the existing setup post Brexit!)  might require that the company make that deduction.

Not so fast mate ???? I'd venture to say that Thailand, despite its shortcomings, is still a notch above Muslim Malaysia when it comes to such things.

At least from the listed countries, which cover much of the world, MM2H visa holders may not enter Malaysia.

Effective from 7 September 2020, the Government of Malaysia is imposing entry restrictions into Malaysia on foreign travelers who are traveling from countries that have recorded over 150,000 COVID-19 cases, as listed below:

    The United States of America
    Brazil
    India
    Russia
    Peru
    Colombia
    South Africa
    Mexico
    Spain
    Argentina

    Bangladesh
    Saudi Arabia
    Pakistan
    France
    Turkey
    Italy
    Germany
    Iraq
    The Philippines
    Indonesia

The entry restrictions include travelers who are citizens of/holders of long-term passes of the countries listed above, who are residing in or traveling from those countries.

    ...

The entry restrictions cover travelers holding long-term passes from Malaysia including:
    Permanent Residents (PR);
    Malaysia My Second Home Program (MM2H) pass holders;

"Malaysia My Second Home" program participants haven't been able to enter the country since the start of Malaysia's border closure."
They have. I travelled back from Thailand in July. Only since the new restrictions in the last month have SOME MM2H holders been barred entry.

this is kind of English humor i like the most (who use ironic a lot):

When I first saw this it was in text form ... and the "expert" was described as an Engineer. I didn't think it very funny (I'm English language native with engineering degrees) so I wrote a response explaining how actually all the requirements could be met (it involved 11-dimensional space and parts of the model moving at appropriate speed to achieve colour shift). I got a request from a Lecturer at a University to use my response in their coursework, . That was funny.

There are strict rules in place to protect the integrity of the building.

An approval is gained first, which states clearly that no structural columns or beams are allowed to be touched. A division wall between apartments is not structural, added after structure built usually brick & plaster only & non load bearing .

    Noisy, yes, dangerous, NO

Knocking out a brick infill wall would be accomplished in a couple of days at most, and should not require jackhammers. Sounds to me like they may be removing concrete beams or columns which are structural. Or (unlikely) concrete walls which would be designed as shear walls.

British Home office remove quarantine restrictions for Malaysia and Brunei.

There are many great beaches and holiday spots on the East coast of Malaysia, so to try and get some sort of far east holiday this year that will be a last minute destination for me, my Thai wife and our children for our 3 weeks vacation.

So Thailand has lost my annual 200,000 Thai baht spend, I know in the great scheme of things it's a small amount but as they say every little helps.

So you are expecting Malaysia to open up to tourism in the foreseeable future? They are only this month starting to issue approvals to most existing work permit holders to return. Two-week quarantine in government designated hotel also.

Oh I don't think so. My passport states:
Her Britannic Majesty's Secretary of State Requests and Requires in the Name of Her Majesty all those whom it may concern to allow the bearer to pass freely without let or hindrance, and to afford the bearer such assistance and protection as may be necessary.
Did you point that out to the IO @ArranP? ????

I'm not speaking about stalls. I'm speaking about Central inside Tops Market. Of course stalls sushi look disgusting and dangerous.

I don't eat sushi, but I have been buying sashimi from Tops in CF two or three times a week since lockdown, sometimes early evening, when they reduce the price. So far so good. Of course I always add a dab of wasabi to each bite (it is reputed to avoid any issues with the fish).
