  1. Whilst I understand that that can certainly be the case, I would say its a bit of a generalisation. I know there are many reasons why people don't and can't create a personal strategy in the form of friends etc. but I would suggest it makes good sense to do so. I was recently diagnosed with cancer and the help from family (Thai) and certainly the numerous hospital staff was tremendous. I certainly wasn't on my own, and that wasn't by luck. Make a plan for the inevitable.
  2. Thanks , I'll try it on my radiation burns from my cancer treatment. The itching has got progressively worse since I finished the course of radiotherapy. The heat here doesn't help,
  3. It's an interesting and serious subject, there's a good deal of truism and reality to the problem funding the OAP. However I presume the OP isn't running for office in the UK or proposing this on behalf of any political party manifesto, bye bye deposit.
  4. Although the extra scrutiny could affect me as a retired and hopefully permanent fixture here, I welcome this. I left the UK partly because of the *hit hole it was deteriorating into; behave in Thailand and you can have a great life.
  5. I'm English, I've seen one snake in 70 years in the UK so I'm not qualified to tell a snake from a worm. If I'm bitten by one here in LoS I'll be a fat use at hospital identifying the type. Do you think telling nursie it was 'a long one' will be of any help?
  6. I understand the complaints and criticism, however in my view a 6 month delay on a project this size and complexity is surely reasonable. I drive the road frequently and there are delays on occasions; I'm retired here so a precious extra 30 minutes doesn't phase me. Maybe it's because I come rom the UK. Only 20% of income paid by the motorist in taxes is used for road infrastructure. The roads are ill maintained and the largest project in the last few years was to turn the emergency breakdown lane of the motorways into a 'part time' extra lane. This grand ides resulted in many deaths . At least Thailand is planning ahead with this scheme whereas the motorist in the Uk is constantly persecuted with surveillance at every road junction, excessive parking fees and extra taxes to enter certain areas of a city in the name of 'combatting climate change'. Oh I almost forgot, we get to benefit from this despite 70 baht/litre.
  7. I was diagnosed with cancer several months ago and started on a journey of fact finding and treatment. I stumbled across a TikTok post claiming that Fenbendazole, a dog worming drug was being promoted as a cure for cancer. I read multiple reports and followed up on claims and was skeptical of the posts by people claiming they had cancer and that the drug was ‘curing’ them. Further research led me to reports of MD’s claiming there was some evidence of it working and others that it was unproven. When I read a medical journal that had evidence that the drug could cause organ failure I posted this on the TikTok post and received quite strongly written animosity. I ultimately decided to place my health in the hands of the medical profession here in LoS and my view at 70 years old is that if it’s not the Big C that gets me something else will. For starters I stay away from riding motorbikes here, that will surely extend my life by at least another 10 years. A footnote to add is that part of my treatment is estrogen female hormone injections. Hot flashes in this country are no joke, however being full of all this goo I am now always correct when having a discussion with my other half.
  8. All of it, including visa applications. Hope it's not so high up that I don't suffer a nose bleed attending.
  9. When I met my now Thai wife (avec obligatory long black hair) 14 years ago, I was also in a relationship with a Platinum blonde back in the UK, thankfully 7,000 miles away.
  10. And before the short haired wife returns home.
  11. I was diagnosed 5 months ago and have just finished all the pre-treatment tests and 28 doses of Radiotherapy at Siriraj in Bangkok. They have the most modern Linac in the whole of Asia. Too much detail to write here but I'm up to around £10k for everything. PM me if you want a complete breakdown and my experience.
  12. Cha Am. 2-3 hours from Bangkok....thus, hospitals (university teaching), airport(s), oodles of shopping and entertainment. Meanwhile, beautiful beaches, nightlife on a small scale resulting in a quiet life if you want it, a good Thai flavour with plenty of western luxuries available (Hua Hin), a mix of nationalities that on the whole are responsible and make for good friends. Cost of living there is lower than where most other traditional 'falangs' congregate and last but not least , on the edge of Chaeng Krachan national park.
  13. This is correct. If you approach a legal company they will obviously guide you towards believing they are the only acceptable avenue towards completing the necessary documentation. However this is from a respected law firm here in LoS: https://www.siam-legal.com/legal_services/probate-and-succession-thailand.php and https://www.siam-legal.com/legal_services/probate-and-estate-administration.php ‘Aside from the heirs, any person the decedent designated in his/her will to be an estate administrator is able to petition the court.’
  14. Thank god for No.1 otherwise I would have to turn down the air con once it warms up here.
  15. In the UK anyone can apply for probate by contacting the various authorities and dealing with the paperwork. I would assume the basic principles are the same here in LoS and obviously if your wife is Thai she would not be disadvantaged by the language barrier.
  16. I have 6 bank accounts in the UK, only one of them 'pestered' me for a Thai TIN, and when I say pestered I mean the 'request' came with a strongly worded 'ignore this OFFICIAL request at your peril, doing so will have dire consequences including several years of punitive hard labour possibly in a North Korean prison.' I can't write my response here due to aseannow rules , however the essence was 'No I don't have a TIN, I don't need one..go away'. That was at least a year ago....and they respected my answer. I maintain my initial advice on this subject.
  17. My advice would have been to NOT get a TIN.
  18. My understanding, assuming the 'husband' is living in Thailand with his Thai wife and dies in Thailand that a will lodged in Thailand and translated to Thai is a must. I would not want my Thai wife having to deal with the 'authorities' in my home country as that would place her at a disadvantage both from a language and process position. Personally I have instructed a Thai based lawyer to create my will and instructed my wife to contact them on my demise. They will then contact the relevant authorities in the UK ( banks, pension providers etc) and report in Thai to my wife which I hope will be more favourable to her. Whilst I'm on the subject, my main concern is having the residue of my pensions paid to her without onerous problems and bank charges. Some would only be small monthly payments and paying transfer fees on each amount would bug me from above. Thinking about your response, a good solution would be for a Thai Lawyer to have contact with the 'executor' in your home country.
  19. Presently having treatment for PC. Started with a general check up in early September revealing a PSA of 24 , so then the finger test a week or so later. Possibility of Cancer was explored with an MRI at Srisawan private hospital on Rattchapreuk Road , cost 22k (ish). Then I reported back to the original urologist in Siriraj and with that further confirmation I opted for a Biopsy, (55k -private room). Was feeling ok after less than a day after the op, no problems and then the results...a Gleeson 9 and had to act quick. The location and size was then further confirmed by a PET at Siriraj (50k) and then I opted for Radiotherapy rather than surgery; I'm 22 doses into 28 that will be another 300k.The LINAC is the only one of its kind in SouthEast Asia and the care is 100%, so hoping for a successful outcome. Strange thing is I felt great in August before the diagnosis and unfortunately don't feel so good now due the side effects and the travelling (5 hours round trip). Furthermore I used to love drinking ordinary (filtered) tap water before the sessions started , now I feel queezy just thinking about the stuff, probably psychosomatic. Good luck and I'm not medically qualified to offer any advice on which route or treatment to take, all I offer is my own personal experience. What I will say is that it would be useful if I'd been seen by my doctor in the UK earlier. Reception at my original doctor had a problem because I lived out of area and then the doctor I transferred to had a problem at reception due to me not using my middle name that I hadn't used for 60 years. No health check from the doctor but plenty of paper pushing.
  20. IATA designator for the airline...thus change of airline. If they change the 3 digit code it means they have taken an engine of for maintenance, but not to worry, they can fly on one engine so long as they don't go over water.
  21. I went to the doctors and he told me I had to stop w****ing. I said 'Why' He said ' Because it's upsetting people in the waiting room' I received a dirty look.
