Go to some of the phone vendor shops, often a 200฿ per month deal can be found. My wife just picked up a sim a couple months ago at ais buddy, unlimited, for 200฿. I’m on one ais five years now @200฿ a month 200gb, then throttled thereafter. The deals come and go and often not available online.

I had this for 2-3 years but was abroad for too long and expiration finally hit.

The best part is that as long as you have expiration available, and less than 200b in the account, it won't debit it.  So you pretty much pay as you go.

Unfortunately like I said, mine expired.

Anyone know where I can get the 200b unlimited AIS card?  Is AIS Buddy a particular store?  Is there one in Pattaya?

Best doctor for  this is in Pattaya     https://bangkokpattayahospital.com/doctor/anna-jaruwarn-m-d/

US traind and board certified and worked in southern California for many years. Has a specific pathologist she uses for reading biopsies.

I went to Dr Anna a little over a year for a skin checkup and to have her look at a lesion I had on my leg that is a little bigger than the size of a pea that I had had for a year or two.

Dr Anna told me she had never seen anything like it before, and not to worry, it is not cancer.   Everyone else who saw it, from friends and family and footmassage ladies were like:  What is that?  You should get that looked at and removed.

Fast Forward to last week when I went to a dermatologist here in the US.  She about jumped out of her shoes when she saw it, and instantly said it was Basal Cell skin cancer.  She did a biopsy that came back confirming her diagnosis.

What happened to me should be subject to malpractice.   Diagnosing Basal Cell is about as easy as it gets, and if you are not sure, why not get a biopsy?   The doc as well as her assistant here were in complete disbelief that I had this looked at previously with that result.

As for me, I have appoinments w a surgeon for Mohrs surgery as well as with a reconstructive surgeon for whatever damage they incur.  Needless to say, had I caught this more than a year ago, it likely would have been a lesser procedure.  And I actually count myself lucky as the doc here was worried it could have been something worse.

Thailand can be a bit of the wild west for medicine, and for those of you with fair skin like me, it would probably be wise to see more than one or two doctors to improve your odds that you see someone skilled enough to detect anything amiss.

Can anyone help run a speed test on 20mbps true/ais 200thb plan?

i have recently just moved into a new apartment with no Wi-Fi, and using my 4mbps 30gb plan and under speed test it said 40Mbps !

I wonder do I have to upgrade to the 20Mbps unlimited plan or not for only the unlimited data..

I had the AIS 10mbps plan for about 3 years.  Well I guess I still have it.  It doesn't seem to matter how long I'm gone, when I come back and top-up the plan fires right back up.

The speedtest was usually significantly above 10mpbs, sometimes 60-80.  It def wasn't speed-capped like some other plans I've had where that needle hits the line you paid for and stays there. Tethered all the time, including for 3 months during covid when the condo i rented charged a stupid amount for wifi.  If it was an extra 100b for double the speed tho, I would do that in a heartbeat. You could buy both plans and do speed checks all the time to see if there's really any benefit. Let us know what u find out!

  4. Did my COVID extension in Chiang Rai on the "last day" Jan 25.  (Of course it was extended but I had already done the pain of getting TM30, which was not easy in CR!)

Showed up at 10am, was the first falang there, 2 others in front.  Required TM30 printout, they took the screenshot from my phone and printed it out for me which was nice of them. Not sure why they couldn't look up in the computer.  Normal copies of passport, photo, and application.

Office was quite polite, friendly, and easy.  Seemed happy to have me stick around.  "Oh COVID extension, ok!"

Received 14 days extra and required to return in two weeks for the full extension.

Will be riding around the North on my motorcycle so no problem for me, which is why I picked CR, knowing the 14-day waiting period was possible.

  5. Sounds like CW in BKK is becoming difficult to get the COVID extensions.

Are there any places that are known as being easier?   What "residence" duration is needed to get the extension in a new area?  Just a quick TM30 register from any hotel?

I am due to get the COVID extension and am flexible in my travel plans.

Seems it might be easier for people to take a little holiday to a more friendly immigration office than mess with BKK.  I had my 30 day extension done in Kanchanaburi, which was a nice place to spend a few days and the Immigration office there was not crowded, staffed by some young maybe-english-students that sort of shuffled the process along, and quite easy.  If you only need a few nights hotel there to get the extension, it might be worth leaving town.

  6. I just needed a TM30 for my visa renewal in Kanchanaburi.  The immigration agent said she needed so see "residence" in the computer to issue the extension.

I booked a $10 hotel, checked in, asked them nicely to register me in the computer for immigration purposes.

Went back the next day, was in the system as residence in the area, and got extension.

So just book a hotel that can do the TM30 for you.  Easy!

  7. I use Agoda all the time.  I think I know whats going on.  Also, to someone who suggested using Booking.com, realize the are the same company.  There is also a setting on Agoda to show all fees + taxes.

Many of the Agoda hotels are Pay-When-You-Stay. My guess is the OP did not book a pre-paid reservation.

When you arrive, the hotel is supposed to tell Agoda that you stayed, and at some point, the hotel has to pay Agoda their commission.  If the hotel does not reply to whether the guest stayed or not, then Agoda would not charge anyone.  As for how the hotel can keep doing this, this hotel has apparently squeaked thru the cracks.

I've had one or two of these "no credit card required" bookings that I made on the wrong day, or I just plain missed, or left early, and there's never been a charge from Agoda.

Probably since you complained, they might not be listed anymore.

Also, if folks don't mind jumping through a few hoops, if you use Topcashback.com, you can get 6% back on your Agoda and Booking reservations, but you have to use a browser to get it.  You can't use the app.

So looks like those of us with AIS accounts with non-THAI "Apple Accounts" can't actually use our Disney+ subscriptions.

I updated the app last week and can now log in using the Hotstar Disney App and my AIS.

There is no Spatial Audio on my iPhone or iPad, however, which is what I really wanted to check out.  Disney+ apparently has it in other regions (as well as HBO+ which I haven't been able to get working in Thailand either.)

The Disney+ Hotstar TH website doesn't appear to work with a non-TH IP address, and in using a U.S. IP address, it automatically redirects to a different Hotstar service for the U.S. that has nothing to do with Thailand.

The Hotstar app in the U.S. Amazon Fire TV app store is for India content and is the wrong app for the Thailand/AIS service.

So looks like those of us with AIS accounts with non-THAI "Apple Accounts" can't actually use our Disney+ subscriptions.

Had I paid full price I'd be of course quite angry.

I also tried to sign up for Disney+ last yeqr using a VPN and it would never work.  It knew where I was.  Sad to see that even "knowing where I am in Thailand" it won't work.    Although I guess it does work on the browser and the "not working" is just the App I can't download with my particular store.  But if they can block you using the browser because of where you are (VPN or not) why limit the App?

I'm confused about the variety of different apps involved here...

--there's a Disney+ app in the U.S. Google Play Store (which is not Hotstar), and I'm assuming that won't work with the AIS account.

--looking in my U.S. Playstore account and in my Fire TV app store, I see a plain Hotstar app for India (with no mention of Disney), which I again assume is the wrong app for AIS.

--in my U.S. Playstore account, I see nothing available as "Disney+ Hotstar."

Do you have to be using a Thai based Play Store account in order to download the correct Android app....  And do you need to be using a device that's showing a Thai IP address in order to use the service?

Sorry you're confused.  Did you try any? that's what we want to know.

Works in 12 Pro and on 8 Plus (both with last OS update) for me.

Is your App Store (apple account) in Thailand?  My App Store is USA based.  When I clicked on the link on the web page it took me to the app store and said "this application is not available in your region." I'd rather not setup a separate Apple Account in Thailand just for Disney+ but really want to check out the Spatial Audio!

Anyone else had luck or non-luck with the Disney+ App on their iPhone/iPad?

Has anyone had success in activated for the first time a MINT sim card on their mobile phone in Thailand? My mobile phone IMEI non contract phone meets the requirements on the website. Thank you.

I just downloaded the app.  It has a free 7-day trial, so I activated that, credit card required but by accident I put in an expired one so maybe it doesn't matter.  The eSIM installed, but you have to provide a US address for 9/11.

I didn't try too hard to get the eSIM to connect but it shows no bars.

It was easy to activate Wi-fi calling and then SMS worked also.

At $15/mo its probably a bit too much unless you need it, in which case it might be a great deal.   Should also add they only seem to allow payment 3 months at a time, so its $45 for 3 months which is a lot more than I need right now.  I would probably do a month just to try it out.

In the "cellular" it shows at Ultra/Mint. Someone mentioned an Ultra 3.99 SIM, my guess is it would work about the same.  I looked on Ultra's webpage though and didn't see anything about eSIM, and they said wifi calling only supported for Android so maybe don't get your hopes up, or get a cheap Android.

If you need some US calls in a pinch this could come in handy with the 7 day trial.  Also remember that you can make Skype calls to toll free numbers in the US for free.

Thanks Joe. JAL said "Whatever the US wants, they are fine".  So I'll go with the Antigen test, which is 1/2 the price of PCR (at least it is here in Hua Hin.)

Hi I'm curious about the same thing.  Would prefer antigen test for ease/speed/cost if its accepted.

Please update how it went for you!  Safe travels.

Thanks to your hint about chang/leo having alot calories i did a check. Before that i never care. Found that. It's quiet shocking.......

    For small bottle:

97 calories - Singha Light Beer (Thailand)

100 calories - San Miguel Light Beer (Philippines)

103 calories - Chang Light Beer (Thailand)

123 calories - Tiger Crystal Light Beer (Singapore)

130 calories - Singha Beer (Thailand)

135 calories - Tiger Beer (Singapore)

150 calories - Chang Beer (Thailand)

150 calories - Heineken Beer (Holland)

150 calories - Phuket Lager Beer

153 calories - Asahi Beer (Japan)

165 calories - Leo Beer (Thailand)

So with which beer do you substitute chang/leo?

Hey where did you get your numbers? I've looked a few times and have been been able to confirm these numbers.  There's only some post on a Bangkok forum about them almost 10 years ago (which seem to have the same numbers as you), which don't cite anything.

Has anyone found real numbers from the beer companies?

Can you give an example, or three (more and more sound like more than one)?

If you ported GFi to GV it would still show as a valid mobile number - I don't believe these claims that numbers are scrubbed beyond the first tranche issuance.

Chase doesn't work and never has.  Citi seems like it works for a few months then it will stop working again.

Half the crypto places I try to sign up for don't work as the number get ID'd as "VOIP".  More and more online services are flagging it as invalid.  Can't even signup for services.  That's whats pushing me to having the number.

I signed up for Fi then rolled the number to  Google Voice and it didn't work still with these services.  I suppose I could port another number to Google Voice and see if that works.  Having the GoogleFI will be the best solution though.

It you are relocating to Thailand consider getting a Google Voice number, before you leave. You can also port in an exisitng number to GV.

Haha the reason I need the part-time Google Fi is more and more services won't send an SMS to my Google Voice Account!

  17. Just as a record for someone looking next time there's a new model:  M1 Macs started showing up in early January on the Apple.co.th site.  They said they were available immediately at the Apple Store but that supply must have vanished quickly as it turned to 3-5 days delivery.

I used the Apple ED store to buy one.  Got a nice discount.  I do some teaching, but as I don't have any credentials, I shipped it to my friend's school where he is a teacher.  So if you are a student or teacher, this is an option.

They claim they may ask for verification but since I shipped to a school I think that was all they needed.

The lead time was 4 weeks.  I went for the English keyboard instead of the more cool looking English/Thai hybrid, mostly to preserve resale value since when I sell it it most likely won't be here.

  18. Pages works fine on my new M1 Mac with Big Sur.  I had to re-download Pages after updating.

Pages sometimes is setup to store all documents in iCloud.  Have you logged into iCloud.com to see if anything is in there?  Maybe you migrated to iCloud by accident.  In theory, iCloud should be storing all revisions as backup which is nice.

  19. Just make sure you activate in the US before you go and realize that if you need to reactivate (For instance if you use eSIM and you switch phones), you can't do it abroad.  I'm having a friend at home activate for me, then mailing the SIM here.  Would prefer an eSIM but impossible to activate here since Google changed their rules a year or so ago.

Another GF tip: You can turn it off and on and usage is prorated.  So if you just need a USA number for those pesky SMS notifications, turn on, get the SMS, turn off, and you're charged down to the minute level it seems.  My bill was like $.02 last month (as I tried yet again to activate via sSIM).

    • Thanks 1
  20. I did a bit more work on my model, depreciation really isn't linear, so please don't consider this accurate. Actual depreciation was a bit higher in the second year  (2019 to 2018) when i added some more data.  But its close enough, as it seems from the mileage people drive it more the first year as well.
