  1. Hi Doc,. Over four years now and the grill I bought from you is still looking and working as good as the day we bought it. Without question this is the finest crafted grill I have ever owned. Having had restaurants in my family growing up the BBQ grills made by Doc easily meet and exceed commercial restaurant quality. A pleasure to cook on and not a speck of rust anywhere. We keep it uncovered on our patio. One of the best purchases I have ever made in 15 years here in LOS. Thanks again Doc.

  2. Much easier if the father is named on the birth certificate!

Why not ask for some form of child support? It takes two to tango and it is perfectly correct for both parents to support a child. It may be a futile exercise to actually get money but trying seems perfectly appropriate IMO!

I agree 100% but she does not seem interested in pursuing child support or getting the childs UK birthrite squared away. I seem to be the only one in the family that sees the citizenship issue as very important, although my wife and the girls mother are starting to realise the importance. Thanks for the comments. Cheers

  3. Forgot to say that the mother can apply to register the birth with the UK authorities.

Doing so wont effect her daughter's British nationality, she's either British or she isn't, but it will confirm it if she needs to do so at some future point.

However, to do this she will, again, need the father's assistance as documents from him are required.

    See Register a birth abroad

    Thanks for the detailed explanation.

The baby is using the fathers surname.

I am the only one who sees this as a very important issue and have been pushing my wife to get her niece to pursue this now rather than waiting 5-10 years.

  4. Hello

Asking for advice from my British neighbors. My wife's niece had a baby girl with her British boyfriend one year ago. They were supposed to marry but that fell through. She is in the medical field and works/lives in BKK, not a bar girl if that matters) anyway to the point. How does she go about getting her daughters UK citizenship. I don't know if the boyfriend is still in BKK or is involved with his baby in any way. Can she go this on her own with the British embassy and having the proper paperwork. She is not looking for child support and is fully taking care of the baby on her own with family support. Thanks in advance. Cheers DD

  5. These are the types of replies to key in on. She can be helped when/if she asks for it, and hopefully before she dies of it. Sounds like you had a great relationship for 5 years. Only you can decide how much she means to you and if you want to help her recover. It will not be easy but in the end could be a fruitful life for both of you. I have been through similar and the addiction is never cured. Best of luck

  6. If your in good health, have good family genes, don't smoke, drink in moderation, eat healthy, wear a good helmet when motorcycling and generally not engage in high risk activities it is more than likely you are fine going without. I'm 61 and lost medical coverage over 4 years ago when I gave notice to my American company and quit. I was based in Shanghai at the time and wanted out of the big city. They still wanted me to work so I am now a contractor working from a (virtual office) I looked into insurance plans here and to me it seemed like all the big scary things that will financially break you are somehow not covered or have strict limits, especially pre-existing and chronic conditions. I am comfortable with my decision and pay as I go for the odd injury here and there, but it is a personal decision and based on many factors mentioned above and also the fact that I have a good financial cushion. You did not mention work. If you can get medical coverage from your employer then that would be the way to go. Good luck,,,,

  7. Chiang Rai country estates, the big project very near to Chiang Rai beach was obviously built during bubble days as an upscale complex with big houses on big lots as well as a massive clubhouse/pool.

Then it all went to hell in a handbasket and most units were abandoned and weeds growing through the roofs for years.......but ever so slowly it is coming to life as several of the units have been bought/leased and renovated or at least made livable again.  Last I looked the pool and clubhouse were still a total mess though.

It truly was originally a very nice development with wide streets , big houses, nice landscaping and a fantastic location.  Hopefully over time more and more of the units will be upgraded and someday perhaps it will return to it's glory days...or not.

I believe a contributing factor other than the financial crisis to the demise of (Country Home) housing estate is that a two year old accidentally drowned in the swimming pool at the clubhouse. I understand in it's heyday the clubhouse pool and restaurant were a popular spot for Thais before the accident with the toddler. Over ten years ago, I rented a room in the upstairs portion of the clubhouse for a few months, and then one of the houses in the estate for a year. It had an eerie strange vibe like a ghost town but loved the layout of the estate itself. The house I rented had stunning wide, thick, teak plank flooring throughout. Very spacious open floor plan with four bedrooms and five bathrooms all for 6K/month. Property was owned by a wealthy Bangkok couple.

  8. I had a similar issue several years ago with my Thai/American son. While we were in the US his Thai passport expired. When I called the Thai Embassy in New York they said not to worry. He will be allowed to enter Thailand on his expired Thai passport. He had no problems at BKK immigration entering Thailand on the expired passport and was advised to renew it. Cheers,,,

  9. Hi there

I have Static IP/Fixed at 3BB and its 3.103 b per month incl vat. It works great, Its not the quickest but very stabile, in 6 month I Have maybe 1 or 2 times no internet and lasted like maximum 5 minutes so for me this is great. When I had normal internet I had much more problems so worth every penny.

    Thanks INV

3K BHT/month is exactly what 3BB quoted me. I need stability / low latency and not so much bandwidth for my needs. Appreciate the feedback.

  10. Hello

Does anyone have a fixed IP address for thier home network ?

I have a premier account with 3BB for the past 4-5 years 1166 BHT/month which has been ok, I want a fixed address to install some equipment and 3BB said there would be a charge of 3-4K BHT and monthly internet would rise to over 3K BHT/month. This seems a bit excessive, wondering if anyone else has any experience with fixed IP and cost.

    Cheers

  11. As promised I will close loop on this thread.

Just exited Mai Sai immigration. I was up front with the immigration official and told him I was ten days late reporting. His Immediate response was no problem. Don't forget next time.

I was out in five minutes with my 90 day receipt stapled in my PP. No fine, no tea money asked or offered. All round good experience.

One thing I have always done when having to deal with immigration is to dress properly. No t-shirts, shorts or sandals. I think your appearance and how you conduct yourself goes a long way in how you are treated. Thanks again to all that commented. Cheers

  12. Thanks for all the input. Just curious about how diligent they really are with this 90 day reporting and if they really keep track of all the bits of information they collect. For the record I have never had an overstay or a single issue with immigration in 13 years. I was going to wait until immigration came to Central shopping center in Chiang Rai to sort this but the wife just told me this morning better go today. So i will go this morning to Mai Sai dressed accordingly and very humble. will let you know my fate later today.

    Cheers

  13. You don't have to get a new visa to change the reason for your extension. Just have the documents for the new reason when you apply and put new reason on TM7 application form.

If going from retirement to marriage be sure financials are not enough for retirement.

Understood, I prefer the one year multi i get in the states that can be stretched to 15 months. I try to avoid dealing with Thai immigration as much as possible. Honorary consulate in the US knows me so do not have to provide marriage docs or bank account info. Last time i forgot visa photos and it was no problem.

  14. At the border they will not check, but they might spot it next time you go to an immigraiton office and charge you 2,000 baht.

Don't forget the re-entry permit if you leave Thailand.

    I have multi-entry.

How will they spot it. Is there some notation in the passport stamp.

From your previous entry and no records in computer of you making the report.

Thanks Ubonjoe, makes sense now that if all is entered into the computer database the gap will appear.

I have a Thai wife for 10 years now and our 9 y/o son.

I have mixed it up over the years with marriage visas early on and then retirement, and if timing is right with trips back to the US a visit to the honorary consulate in Boston is a breeze for a one year multi.

Since the fine is 2k regardless of how long I am late will blast up to Mai Sai to sort it out at some point.

    cheers

  15. Cheers

Am on a retirement visa / extension of stay based on retirement, expires November 11, 2013. I am 9 days overdue on 90 day reporting. Have been here 13 years and only stayed 90 consecutive days in the kingdom thrice so reporting every 90 days is something i never think of except now.

I have a choice to turn myself in at Mai Sai and pay the 2K fine or exit the country at Mai sai and re-enter with my extension of stay expiring on Nov 11. I plan to exit the country and get a non 0 to visit friends and family in a consulate back in the US in November.

What do the experts think ? Will i get caught for missing the 90 day report and if so how.

    Thanks

  16. as i read it, it was nonsense and patently untrue.

why should i apologise if you did not say what you meant?

Joe, Again you apparently did not read my post before making a reply. Go back and read it again.

Where did I ask you for an apology ???

So far you have contributed nothing but bad advice to the OP. "Just reset and start fresh" is brilliant advice to a non-technical person looking for guidance. In the business we call people like you cowboys.

  17. just reset it and start fresh.

one concern is that you did not change the default admin and password, somebody has found your router, changed its ip, username and password.

we used to do that to folks a while back, not maliciously, but to taech them a lesson about security

The reason for user level and management level access to network devices is to allow non tecnical people to look at the status of their equipment without the possibility of an accidental or over zealous change to the active configuration.

Dont agree with your advise to the OP about just reset and start fresh as the OP would likely be dead in the water unless he knows all config parameters.

  18. Steelpulse

You need to be directly connected to the router by Ethernet cable or console cable to manage the router. Most routers cannot be managed VIA WIFI access.

    Cheers

while i agree that if he cannot access the gateway via wifi he should try a wired connection, saying that most routers cannot be managed by wifi is just nonsense

My deepest apologies for using the word cannot. I clarified it in my next post to Totster a few minutes later if you took the time to read it before calling my post nonsense.

  19. Who setup the router initially? If it was your ISP then contact them. It sounds like the level of access you have is user level or read only access. Means you can look at status but not change anything. There is management layer of access that allows full read write access to the config. Good luck

  20. Not saying you are wrong Totster but would urge the OP to try this before defaulting the router to factory config and losing current config. Most of the gear I work with is Cisco and by default cannot be managed VIA WIFI unless configured that way for security reasons.
