  1. plenty of facebook pages devoted to all kinds of rentals, short and long term

additionally, there is the CCT listserve newsletter which specifically lists short term sublets... typically those are all being rented

    out by falangs.

  2. there are actually a couple of places that indeed do pay up... erewards offers many items in return for online surveys and so does usertesting...

Usertesting actually pays 10 USD per survey but for both of these, you will need to use "something" to change your ip address to be in USA..

i have been doing both of the for years and gotten compensated accordingly..

  3. a step down transformer will allow your TV to work on the electrical grid here... however, i believe that they transmit in PAL, rather than NTSC...

which is what the USA tvs are built on... i know that if you buy a PAL dvd it will not play on a NTSC TV, but it will play on a monitor from the USA

when pushed out by a computer, say...

I brought 2 monitors from USA when i moved and both worked fine, but avoided bringing TV cuz of the decoder issues..

  4. i had 3 computers built for my friends in the last 4 months... i got an idea of what they wanted and then on the first two, i checked

prices on exact same parts at a few different vendors... JIB was always cheaper...

No OS, no garbage installed... i put win 8.1 on the machine and it works fine...i have been using the 8.1 image since it first

came out, a long time ago... never a problem...

they assemble machine in about 20 minutes and test in front of you to show you it has all the right bits and give you

    the original OEM boxes

This is the best way, always install your own OS, you never know what else they're putting on there.

I bought a new HP 'all in one' desk top here in Chiang Mai. It's rather nice, apart from an annoying hum which vibrates through the desk, but what really annoyed me was that it was the same price in Australia, but has a bootleg Windows OS.

Every now and then it crashes and I get a message telling me the OS is not genuine. Haven't had an update in 18 months.

So when Windows 10 hits the streets, looks like I'll have to buy a genuine copy.

I don't know how they get away with this piracy. w00t.gif

you don't know how....? as in, from a technology sense? or from an intellectual copyright piracy sense?

the technology part is very straight forward after all these years...

the piracy part is also very straight forward, as in the countries that allow it, really don't care about it.

make sure you have latest version of utorrent and how familiar are you with utorrent? maybe it "does not work" cuz

    there are no seeders?

  7. i heard from another owner that it was thai's b-b-q ing on their balcony at 2 in the morning and the balcony started on fire.

His first comment to me was that he did not know about the couple of cuties down the hall from him - said they looked great

and perky in the kewl night, rushing out in their nighties... hahahahaha

  8. best value for me and best taste too is from sausage king... buy at his home/restaurant and get good discounts!

  9. yes, we got our kid some from sportsworld... not the greatest, but fine for outdoors and kid use... twice in 3 yrs the boot has come away from the skate, but a quick trip to any local

shoe dude fixes it up for another 6 months at least at the princely sum of 50 baht

  10. go to torrentfreak for all the latest news as well as alternative sites

Totally illegal... But I guess your don't care.

what is illegal about my post? news/info is out there...google has been posting (and still posts) links to download sites by the millions... i am not even doing that..

U--tor--rent k--A--T Pi--ra--te B-a-y allows for the creation of ones own daily HD package

But does not offer you live streaming of sport or news.

    rolleyes.gif

but simply using vipboxasia will allow streaming of almost EVERY sporting event and many now are broadcast at very good quality.. and even recently starting streaming most USA and UK stations ... all for free..

  12. I received my extension based on marriage last week in Chiang Mai (it was my 5th time)...

In addition to items you mention, Phil, i had to provide the marriage sworn notary statement (as mentioned in OP) and translation of document... and copy of USA marriage certificate, but again, no translation of that..

Interesting that i had to provide sworn notary (consular) for income also, but that is also in english and no translation required.

Also, needed to have a copy of every page in my passport which had to do with Thailand, since my first visit here (in this passport, that goes back about 6 0r 7 yrs)...

I hope you know that what one immigration office requires is not necessarily what YOUR office will require... items sometime vary from office to office (see recent

issues around getting EDU visa extensions as a good example)...

    mileage may vary

  13. i dunno... it is such a slippery slope if you start to "question" requirements (IF told to you by an officer and not just a helper). I have literally seen

a thai woman (wife of falang) question an officer about financial statements necessary and the officer then informed the couple (applying for

extension by reason of marriage to a thai) that there was a LOT more documentation she wanted to see. The thai wife then pulled up (on smartphone)

and pulled out printed copies (all in thai) of the "requirements" as posted online...

Wife then asked officer "by what authority and where was it written" to supply all this additional documentation (bank statements from England re: rental property

incomes and rental agreements with tenants IN england, etc...)...the officer glibly pointed to her nameplate and said: It is written right there!

OK.. so wifey could have then proceeded to try and buck up the ladder/chain of command... but she would then gain her husband an enemy for life (she told me).

In the end, she did come back with said documents from England (was then asked to translate them all!)... and eventually her hubby got the 1yr extension.

Subsequent years... no additional hassles... calm, kewl and done in a flash...

the lesson (for me)... is give them what they want and with a smile.. i am a guest here... i know many take issue with the bend over and

don't even get kissed philosophy.. but for me, the kiss is my one year extension...

  14. what exactly is "short term" to you? 2 weeks? 2 months?

and is there a particular area of town or special things you want to be close to? Setting some parameters would help board members give their opinion/advice...

although, there is no shortage of those who give opinions about anything with no parameters or social filters!
