I used SevenSeas just over 3 years ago. They charged a reasonable price and supplied six boxes and a lot of bubble wrap and tape. The staff were helpful, they instructed me to make sure it was sent in the name of a Thai citizen and clearly marked as Used Household Goods. I also had to supply proof that my wife had lived outside of Thailand for at least 5 years.

My only criticism is that they took about 6 weeks longer than promised. Most of which time spent sitting in a depot in the south of England awaiting shipment

Happily time is not an issue at present - no passenger flights for a while.

    Thanks,

Which company you use, check that you are aware before sending things back, that you may be liable for customs duties.

I shipped a container of (3bedroom) household furniture, bed linen clothes, paintings, dinnerware, kitchen equipment. I was liable for duty when it was being cleared, had to argue through agent, regarding the original amount.  The original amount asked seemed like an arbitrary figure, as all the goods were preowned.

Used a Thai agent from Brisbane to arrange it all.

This is only her things. As I understand it, locals can take/send their stuff home without being stung. I'm expecting it will just be clothes & a few household goods.

    Thanks,

  3. 1) If this is in the wrong place, please move it.

    2) Last thread I can find for this topic was 2014/15 - things change.

    3) Real info (pref from experience), no flames.

Wife has a rapid form of dementia & wants to go home. Quite understandable.

Looking for a reliable shipping company to send a few (maybe 3) 30kg boxes of her stuff home.

Pack'n'Send, apart from being overpriced, want to go through the boxes before sending. Not thrilled with that idea.

Seven Seas Worldwide appear suitable - has anyone used them recently? If so, how was it? It appears they will deliver to the door.

    Thanks,

  4. Had the same in my village - arrived 0530, was leaving by 1130.

A dentist was sent to tell me about COVID - apparently the only medically trained in the area with English.

Wasn't a big issue, I was ready to stay overnight & leave on Saturday or go the same day. All I needed to do - building repairs & a quick temple visit - was done by 0800.

    Off topic,

But how do you imagine Thai immigration would know you entered another country on a different passport?

Fingerprints on entering countries is already here - Malaysia & Philippines have it. I imagine others to also.
Iris scanning is on the agenda.
These are held in a database with will match prints/scans to passports.
If your print shows as being connected to a different passport...

You can run, but you can't hide.

  6. Some interesting viewpoints !

I have just bought (last Sat) a new laptop computer which would have cost much more had I purchased in the UK or Australia.........................

Unless you are using a Linux variant or pirated Windows, wait until you are hit with the price of a legal copy, then tell us how much cheaper...(and the rest of the software)

  7. facebook - just lie with name and date of birth, George Orwell was correct

Nice idea, but it doesn't work.

For one of my jobs I created a fake profile with a new email address created just for it & unused mobile number.

    no contacts

    no friends

    no history

    no personal details

nothing that could be linked to me.

FB still listed over 20 people - inc rels - that I know locally and OS. With so many people in the world supposedly using FB, I find it hard to believe they are 'random selection'.

Data mining from your computer is likely.

So the device you used to create this new profile in was a device that you used previously ? ...... And my train of,thought is that on that device you had Apps that so ehow linked it all together.

You must change the privacy settings of that Facebook thing.

I don't have it, nor do I want it, but it sounds like you DEVICE linked you somehow.

Only ever use it on one pc, with all security/history/cache/etc cleared before hand.

The profile was new, as was the email address. There was nothing in either. The email address still holds no contacts & quite deliberately FB holds no friends.

FB is certainly not a thing to trust.

I do not use either the tablets or mobile for that type of program. FB was the first thing removed from the tablets.

Same amount of faith in Google - no contacts in gmail or android.

  8. I certainly agree Manila is a hole. Transport can be difficult, you get searched going into shopping centres & train stations. As a minimum corruption is equal to, but probably well exceeds Thailand.

The beers are nice & reasonably priced. Their local (coconut) hootch - Lambanog - is great & about $8US/bottle. It beats the daylights out of Thai whisky anyday. It is very pleasant to drink.

Foods... different story. I found it hard to get something edible in a lot of places. Food courts in shopping centres weren't too bad. Their main chains "Jolibee", which makes McD seem fantastic & "Max's", where if you can get served & actually get the food inside an hour you will still leave wanting something to eat, but with a much lighter wallet.

Accommodation - As with anywhere else it will depend on your expectations, how much you are prepared to pay & which area you are in. I've used hotels & private rentals, but think I would use the hotels over private. The private rentals have extra conditions & charges that can make them impractical when you go to leave.

BKK has a nice airport, Manila... let's just say it has a bunch of terminals staffed by scammers. OK, not all of them are, but a good % are. Keep a close eye on your bags.It will be interesting to see what the new airport to be funded by San Miguel will be like.

Language - Yes, most speak English, but so few seem to understand it. More scary is that a number of them are teaching their versions of English to other Asians.

So what's wrong if we teach English to other Asians? Are we all that bad?Your ignorance is unbelievable and as if Manila is the only place in Philippines.

Btw, there are many native English speakers who can't even spell right or use the grammar properly..now that is scarier(no offense to the decent ones).

Actually, I am aware there is more to the Phils than just Manila. Some parts are quite nice, but a lot of tourist don't get far from the main cities unless they have a reason to do so.

As for the ones teaching English to other Asians, I'm fine with it - providing they can use it properly themselves; which in these cases they can't.

I had a Thai teacher here (Sydney) with a degree in English from Bangkok Uni. As far as he was concerned, his English was fantastic. In reality, he'd barely pass high school here.

Don't take offence... a gate is much lighter.

  10. Very good, thank you. The man that kills snakes gets rats. Live and let live.

An ATM next to my wife's restaurant. A huge rat snake (Ptyas). I wonder if it's choice of where to get warm was also some sort of statement. Near the storm drains and canals that connect to the local markets, these snakes should be promoted, introduced, and highly protected. If you have ever seen Chiang Mai gate at 2 AM you know exactly what I mean. No trap or poison even comes close to these pros in the business.

But does it prevent crims altering the ATM for their benefit?

  11. Have you ever been bitten by one of your friends?

    Just curious.

The bite of the horrible ravening deadly huntsman spider. It itched for hours!

    BITESmall.jpg

It's just a matter of respect and understanding born of knowledge. We could not live on this planet without the aid of these critters. By coincidence that wart like bump on my knuckle was from a latrodectus bite, black widow, from many years ago.

Just a small point - as 'safe' as a huntsman is considered to humans, it's bite can cause paralysis.

The bite blisters, this explodes causing more blisters and so on. We have a friend in Coffs Harbour (Northern NSW) who was bitten by one. She had to be flown to Sydney where the only anti-venom supplies were.

  12. After reading a recent post about the benefits of having Permanent residence in Phillipines I am seriously consideringh moving there,I am really tired of all the visa non-sense here-the work permits necessary even for residents etc,the non-sense re-entry permit,90 day report, certificate of residence which is never confirmed.Gawd, what a flippin nightmare.

the Philippines is one of the fastest growing economies in Asia.

The people speak English, and the beaches are truly stunning.

Apart from rental accomodation, (In the Big Cities, Such as Cebu). which gets you a great rental price if you want to buy. Everything else is about half the price of Thailand.

The ladies are great, its so refreshing to take someone out and have a laugh, because they understand you.

There are exceptions of course. But in the main these girls are not money driven, they just want a better life, than the slums they are in at present. Give that to them and they will be so grateful, and what a turn on, to have someone speak to you in English when your having sex hahaha.

I left Thailand, where I still have many friends after 9 years to go to the Philippines and I have not looked back one bit.

i will return to Thailand to visit my friends, but the Philippines is my home now.

And, by the way, dont believe all the crap you hear about it being dangerous, the people are great, just dont go where not not suppose to, same same as in Thailand.

I agree with your comments about the Philippines, especially concerning the women. Wish I could live there but I just can't warm up to the idea of living on an island or group of islands, plus I can't get used to Filipino food. But I definitely like going there for holiday...2 weeks next month. Enjoy!

I have PH friends I visit there, a few constantly asking for return visits. The ladies are nice - well, mine are, they look after me well & don't really ask much - but the food... that gives me a lot of trouble. I just can't get use to it. Thia/Viet/Korean foods, no problems at all. PH foods... Jolibee makes McD's seem good. Streeet food is not so good, even their main restaurant chains leave a lot to be desired - like edible food.

Living there.... not so sure. Foreigners can only own 40% opposed to the 49% in TH.

Being searched before going into shopping centres or using trains get a bit much after a while.

No, can't see me living there. Short visits are ok.
