My close friend has lost his wife because of cancer a year ago and they were together for too long. After she passed away it turned out that she had a will she wrote before they got married and hadn't changed it. So he went to a court to get his part of common property. He needed the money badly at the time because he spent a lot on the treatment. He even had to announce bankruptcy and hire a bankruptcy attorney san diego to deal with it. Anyway, I hope everything will be fine for you and your wife.
Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I think about this too. I guess there might be an issue. My wife owns a house and land and I was sure that if she dies, everything automatically goes to the closest relative. But I'm surprised to find out that it's not necessarily true and she probably should leave a will or something to be sure that there won't be a problem.
