  1. Not this route or airline, but I've been pinged at the departure gate for document checks after an online check in, once to confirm I had a visa and once for an onward ticket. I had the paperwork with me both times, so there was no issue, but I assume I would have been denied boarding otherwise.
  2. How much do you usually transfer? You can only send less than 50k THB per transaction to Krungsri. Wise will only send bigger (up to 2 mill) transfers to Bangkok Bank, Kasikorn and SCB.
  3. I've seen this one get recommended to Brits specifically for not being American-style, but that's second-hand info, not a personal recommendation.

  5. If it's oversized for carry-on, they will force you to check it and charge you for it. If it's oversized for check in, they will charge the oversized/overweight baggage rate. That was 250E on the route I used to take. It's probably something similar from Thailand. That's why I got it made a couple of cm below the maximum, just to be sure it wouldn't be slightly out.
  6. Thai's cabin allowance is 7kg for the carry-on and 1.5kg for the personal item/laptop bag. Most airlines have boxes/cages to check the size of carry on. They have them at check in and at boarding, though most won't bother to use them unless they suspect your bag is oversized. However, KLM check-in staff do have tape measures as well. For checked baggage, they have a linear maximum (158 cm in total - length + width + height). I have a sports bag that was custom-made to fit their sizing. It's 156 cm total. They usually check and always seem disappointed to find it fits.
  7. Thai's allowance is only by piece to USA & Canada. To everywhere else, it's a weight allowance, so you can take more than one bag, as long as they are less than your weight allowance in total. There was talk of them switching everyone over to a piece allowance last year, but as far as I know, it never happened. In any case, if your allowance is 25kg, it's a weight allowance. When it's by piece, it's 23kg in Economy. https://www.thaiairways.com/en_TH/travel_information/baggage.page?
  8. Installing solar panels and replacing AC units in a rented property doesn't sound like a very economical option TBH. Or is this my landlord posting...?
  9. It needs servicing soon anyway, so I'll let the landlord send someone to deal with that.
  10. I usually just take them outside and hose them down in the yard. It's a 5-minute job. I can do it weekly if it'll help.
  11. There are removable filters that sort of clip into the front, and I clean them every month or so because we have a dog and they get fur stuck on them. I wouldn't even know where to look for other filters.
  12. Yes, and if it ices and defrosts, the runoff for that drains outside as well.
  13. Thanks everyone, I'll get onto the landlord. I didn't want to embarrass myself by complaining if it was normal!
  14. This one is set to 26c and the ones in the bedrooms are 24c. (Those ones aren't icing up, but we don't have them turned on at that time of day.) The electric bill is bad enough at 26c, I can't imagine what we'd be paying at 19c!
  15. Another dumb AC question. Since the weather got hotter last week, around sunset, when the temp drops slightly and the humidity rises, I've been getting ice/frost on the indoor part of the AC unit. The first time, it properly iced up, but once I realised what was happening, I kept an eye on it, and as soon as it starts, I turn it off for a bit, then run the fan to dry it out before putting the AC back on. That's working fine, but it's annoying. It's due to be serviced next month, and I'm thinking of asking the landlord to send someone to look at it sooner. But I wanted to check if there is actually something wrong with it or if this is normal in this god awful weather. Is this something that can be fixed, or is it just part of life in this heat? Google says it could be low refrigerant or dirty/blocked air filters, but if that was the case, I'd expect it to happen all the time, not just at this specific time of day.
  16. If they were saying it, there wouldn't usually be anything to correct. In regular connected speech, 'could have' and 'could of' both contract to /ˈkʊdəv/ [could've], so phonetically, they are identical. That's why people make the error when they have to write it.
  17. Did you get the international certificate as well? If so, that's incredibly cheap. They normally pass on the administrative costs of being an approved center. It's 1,000-1,500 at the travel clinics in Bangkok, but the hospitals always charge more.
  18. https://bangkokpattayahospital.com/product/yellow-fever-vaccine/ Wherever you get it done, make sure you get an official international yellow fever vaccination certificate, not just a standard vaccination record.
  19. If anyone is still looking at this, I just got an advert from Medconsult saying they have Qdenga on offer for 3,000 THB each until the end of April. (I don't know if you can prepay for the second shot at that price as well or if only the first one will be cheaper. Obviously, you can't get them both done before the end of April.)
  20. The Qatar flights with QSuite are excellent, but they don't have them on every flight.
  21. Are you sure she's not just doped up on painkillers and/or sedatives? It's possible to have ventilation without sedation, but it's unusual because it's a pretty unpleasant procedure. Also, when she's out of hospital (or while she's there if you aren't confident about the care she is getting), watch out for signs of a UTI, especially if she's had a catheter. UTIs frequently cause delirium symptoms in the elderly, and they mimic dementia.
  22. Then what was the purpose of your original post?
  23. If you can't find anyone, try asking the British Council and/or English First. I used to do this as a freelancer for them both in another country. (They were paid to provide the proctor for a whole range of exam types and then subcontracted someone in the nearest town to do the actual work). They might have a similar pool of people here. It will be cheaper if you can hire someone directly, though. (I'm in Bangkok, so I can't help.)
  24. You don't need YF vaccine to enter Tanzania, but it's on WHO's list of at-risk-countries, so any country (which includes Thailand) that monitors YF can insist on proof of vaccination for entry for up to 1 year after you have been to Tanzania. If it is checked, it is usually done by the airline, and you will be denied boarding without it. I don't know whether Thailand routinely enforces it, but most countries that have the regulation clamp down hard and fast as soon as an outbreak is reported, even if they don't usually check. The YF vaccine is licensed for a single dose now, so you only need one jab in a lifetime. If you have had it before, and you still have the official YF certificate, it is still valid even if it has an expiry date on it. Thai Travel Clinic & Medconsult both carry the Stamaril vaccine. If you do decide to get it, make sure you get the proper international YF certificate, not just a standard vaccination record.
