    Affordable = local insurance.

    Quality insurance = International expat insurance.

    You can't have both, and age 60+ should go for expat insurance. Expect premium 80,000 - 130,000 thb year.

    Affordable often come with low coverage as well.

    * Major surgery is 3 Mill++

    Suppose I get a non-O extension inside Thailand that doesn't require insurance, what should I expect to pay for a local insurance that covers the basic issues let's say a traffic accident, a heart's attack, etc?

    In that case the only financial avenue open to you is the 800k money-in-the-bank option referred to by @DrJack54. Absolutely no chance that you will get away with a series of consecutive 45/30-day visa-exempt border runs over a 12-month period (which is what I assume you are contemplating) before applying for a 90-day non-O conversion for retirement at your local immigration office leading in turn to annual extensions of stay.

    I didn't want to park 800K THB in a Thai bank, but if that is the only option I have then I will have to follow that path, thanks everyone for your advice.

    You can only obtain a non O-A in your passport country or country where you are a legal resident

    You can apply for a non O based on retirement in Thailand however that requires 65k monthly deposits for 12 months.

    You could alternatively use money in bank method.

    Does your embassy provide "income letter"

    You are right, I wanted to say a visa extension based on retirement. So, I will have to stay in the kingdom during 12 months on visa runs before applying for a non O-A extension based on retirement. My embassy doesn't provide income letters.

    The email will do the trick.

    Worst case scenario you could go to Bangkok if rejected and check into hotel that does TM30 for you.

    Here is screenshot of a USA couple I've been helping and just obtained covid extension HH.

    They also were asked for embassy letter.

    Hua Hin have gone rogue.

    Yeah, I hope it works.

    I was also told that if I paid 5000 baht they would take care of everything, what made me feel it was very suspicious.

    Hua Hin will accept a email from your embassy stating they will not do the letter. Perhaps call them ask them to send you the email. Others have done it. That might easier than a trip to Bangkok.

    In Bangkok you would apply at the Muang Thong Thani office.

    Thank you very much for the information, I will print the embassy email reply and try again tomorrow.

  6. Hello everybody,

    Today I went to the Immigration Office in Hua Hin to apply for a Covid-19 extension and they asked me for a letter from my embassy to confirm my request of stay extension. I contacted my embassy and told me they don't provide this kind of letter anymore because it is not necessary. I know that each Immigration Office has its own rules, so I will have to try in another office. Could you please tell me which Immigration Office in Bangkok should I go to get my covid-19 extension? I entered Thailand visa exempt.

    Thank you.

  7. Hello everybody,

    I want to get a Thai motorbike driving license, I have got a Thai car driving license and my home country car and motorbike driving license but I forgot to get an International driving license before coming to Thailand. Can I exchange my home country motorbike driving license for for a Thai one or will I have to take the theory and practice tests to get it?

    Thank you for reading.

  8. Hi there,

    As everybody knows the deadline for covid-19 extensions is November 27, unless immigration authorities decide to extend it. My stay permit expires on December 13. In the case that they decide to put an end to covid-19 extensions, do you think I will able to get a covid-19 extension and extend my permit until mid-February 2022 if I apply on November 26, in spite of the fact that my current permit expires on December 13?

    Thanks

  9. I have tried to install and run the app Thailandplus required for the Phuket Sandbox Scheme but not success (the app is installed but doesn't start).

    I have tried with two different android devices with the version downloaded from Google Store, not working, then I downloaded the latest version 1.0.1 from google.drive not working either.

    Have you recently entered Thailand via the Phuket Sanbox scheme?

    Do the immigration authorities at Phuket airport check if you have this app installed and running?

    Oh well. Never mind, I've made a real booking with a well-known local budget carrier to Vietnam now.  So I'm good.

    I'm in the same situation as you. I want to enter Thailand on visa exempt, get a 30-day extension and then apply for a non-O visa in Thailand and an extension later, so I don't want to waste my money in a return ticket.

    The question is if you can get the COE with an onward ticket or if the airline company will accept an onward ticket to Vietnam considering that right now Vietnam is not allowing tourists enter the country.
