I have 23 years in the Dutch system and therefore am eligible for 46% of  the fully vested (50 years) AOW pension. If I am single (or married and separated) I'd receive €653 (46% of €1353.11). If I'm married (and not separated and living together as husband and wife) I would receive 46% of €920.98 or €423.65 . I've yet to receive a payment so I can't confirm the amounts but based on answers I've received here and the results of additional research I believe I now have correct and current information.

It is possible to continue to contribute to AOW to build up more years credit when you retire in 12 years. I don't know the specifics but it might be worth contacting AOW to see if there'd be a benefit to your doing that.

No need to contact the SVB. Hanssna quit working too long already.

Indeed it is possible to continue to contribute for the AOW and pay 27 years (50-23 years) to receive a full pension of 100%. But people have to start paying premium to the SVB short time after they stop working.

Personally I had done this since the premium is affordable. Unfortunately I read about that possibility 3 years after I quit. So I had to live 19 years from my savings. 3 years In NL and 16 years in Thailand before I received my AOW.

Okay thanks for all the information ( I am Dutch and in around 12 years from now I hope to get my AOW here in Thailand).

    I have another question and maybe some Nederlander here has experience with this (please no guessing);

I have been working / living here since a long time so according to mijn pensioenoverzicht .nl ( log in with DIGID) I will get around half of my AOW when I turn 68 or so...  since I only spent half my working life in NL.  Let's say this will be 600+ Euro.  Way below the 920 for sure.  Would that be cut even more if I am married to a Thai wife here? That would be a shame..   Or would it remain 600 Euro or so, because it's already much lower than the 920 Euro mentioned?  Anybody here in this situation?  Thanks for any more info on this ????

When you are married and have a Thai wife you will receive less Euro indeed.

The calculation is like this: Euro 920 (married pension) - 2% for each year you didn't work and was not insured for the AOW. Besides you have to deduct the tax, withhold in NL, according to the blue table (Blauwe belastingstabel). Then you know the net amount you will receive. You also must use the amounts mentioned without discount (Dutch = zonder loonheffingskorting). Indeed we are treated very unfair for the AOW and tax. After you left NL you not exist anymore, they don't care one iota about you.

As example, I worked 34 years in NL before I moved to Thailand. I am not married to a Thai.

My pension per 1 January 2023 is 34x2%=68% of the single pension. Cut 16x2%=32% for the years I didn't work. In case you only have AOW than it is impossible to live from such a small amount.

It sounds like you're receiving AOW and are married to a Thai who never contributed to the AOW. Does your wife receive anything, or do you just get the married pension for yourself?

I found this at belastingtips. nl which seems to indicate that she should be receiving a supplement. I still don't know if that applies to everyone who has a right to AOW or only Dutch citizens do.
    Foreign partner

Suppose you have emigrated to Spain and are retiring. Your partner is Spanish and is 40 years old, she has never lived or worked in the Netherlands. Your partner can still be insured in the Netherlands for 25 years for her state pension (theory). The supplement for your partner will then be 25 x 2% = 50% (of the married couples with an AOW pension). This percentage is determined at a point in time (when you turn 65) and will then no longer be adjusted. This is strange and incorrect, but that's the law, take advantage of it. When your partner turns 65, the supplement will stop. The allowance also stops in the event of your death.

Spain is part of the EU. There are different rules for the EU and the Schengen area and for the countries in the rest of the world, like Thailand in this case.

Maybe the AOW simply asks the local government how many people are registered on a certain address.

If not, then you could lie and hope they never find out. If they do, some way or the other, you will be fined I suppose for the difference plus a huge markup.

Your information is not true. They have many ways to check if you lied.

When you lied you must pay back the difference over the time you received a pension for a single person. You get a fine of around 150%, you get a criminal record, and in worst cases even an arrest warrant from court and extradition back to The Netherlands..

  6. 2 hours ago, Stevemercer said:

It is the same system in Australia.

If the government files show you are married to a non-citizen, you will get the married pension divided by half. The government makes the assumptiom that your wife has no entitlement to any Dutch benefits, but that she will contribute her own Thai salary/benefits/assets/pensions to the marriage.

If you subsequently separate (and/or divorce) you will revert to the single pension.

In case you separate you will get a single pension after 3-5 years, not immediately. Probably a difference between Australia and The Netherlands.

  7. The rules from SVB are quite complicated. Personally I would not ask information on a public form.

Visit the website from the SVB in NL, there you find all information you want to know. Start with the information "AOW en gezamenlijke huishouding", this brochure you can download in PDF format. There are much more brochures that are useful to download and read.

You receive the "married pension" not only when you are married, also when your child reach a certain age, have a live-in housekeeper, and much more.

As Groenen said you have to fill every year a Life Certificate which must be approved by the SSO (Social Security Office). The SSO makes a copy from the certificate and your passport and keep this in your personal file they have about you.

SVB NL works together with the SSO in Thailand. The way they check if the information on the Life Certificate is true can be done in many ways.

    1. SVB send an officer to Thailand and check people together with officers form the SSO and the police in a house visit.

    2. The SVB give a list to the SSO with details of people they want to be checked. In that case the SSO checks if your address is correct with immigration and the local amphur. furthermore when they have doubts about anything they will visit neighbors and interrogate them about you and if you really live alone, are not married, etc.

    3. The SVB has much more ways to check you, by Dutch law they are allowed your social media accounts, bank accounts (to see if you support another person or make regular payments to a person), and ask the Ministry of Finance for details about you.

If appears you have lied about your personal situation you are in deep trouble.

Aside from paying back the difference between the single and the married pension  you will get a fee of 150% and SVB will file a complain about fraud with the Ministry of Justice, which will give you a criminal record for the rest of your life.

Aside of the AOW, apply for a DigiD before you receive your pension.

A DigiD save you a lot of hassle in communication with the SVB. sending your Life Certificate back after approval, apply for your AOW, and more.

Don't try to fool the SVB, you will lose for sure. It is impossible to hide your Thai wife or girlfriend forever. The SVB has many ways to check you.

Sorry for my bad English, I am Dutch and not English.

I have had my problems with the SVB too but was able to solve them. Same like the Ministry of Finance they are not easy to communicate with and you must be able to prove everything.

In case you want to know more you can PM me, then I can write in Dutch which is easier. about this subject.

Good luck with getting the AOW you are looking for. Henri.

Still cant get to grips as of yet why they moved in the first place. TIT.

Kamphaeng Phet Immigration moved again 17/09/2018.

Their new location is behind the Amphur in Kamphaeng Phet. Drive to the Amphur, than drive along the left side to the back of the Amphur. Turn right, at the end at your left side you will see their new office.  When you don't come by car drive against the traffic along the right side of the building. This, because at the left side behind the building, 3 dogs are waiting for you.

Immigration in Kamphaeng Phet is a pain in the butt. 90-Day reports you can make in person only, they don't allow reporting with EMS or online.

They have a website, see address in the picture. However, the whole site is in Thai, no word English. Not worth a visit if you can not read Thai.

At the old location they have a piece of paper on the window that they are moved, but no mention of the new address on it.

Hopefully they stay here for a longer period.

Google maps @16.485267,99.525125 can not confirm this one for 100%

  9. I am often asked about accommodation in Pattaya and comes to the fore is the unseen cost of taxis and transport incurred by staying in a cheap place which is out of the way.

One place mentioned above (could have been more but interesting nevertheless) was quoted as being BT100 on a motorbike from the BTS. Doing that there and back twice a day would run Bt400 a day and largely knock back the savings I would have thought.

I just urge people to think about what they will actually do each day and how they will do it as time is money as well and even using the BTS in Bangkok takes loads of time.

    torrenova

I agree with you about the fact that if you stay far away from BTS, MRT or busses you will save more money when you stay in a more expensive place near the BTS and/or MRT. However, the OP asked for hotels/guesthouses at a walking distance from BTS or MRT and that is what I did. I know all the places I mentioned and they are a small walking distance from BTS and/or MRT.

But when you have to pay BT 100 from a BTS station to your hotel then you really stay at the other side. Two weeks ago I took a taxi from Khoasan Road to Saphan Khwai, a 30 minutes ride which costed me BT 100 !!

I disagree that the use of BTS or MRT takes you loads of time. You have no traffic jams and the interval between two trains is very short. I can't imagine that a taxi is faster than the BTS or MRT, maybe at night but definitely not at day time.

  10. I have called many of these places as I need a place for two weeks near the BTS but all so far have had shared washroom showers although the prices are very good. Does anyone know of an apartment or hotel with private facilities and internet for around 1000 baht?

    hello tampasailor

I am sure you did not call Siam Palace, Pradipat hotel, Liberty hotel and Wattana Mansion. I have stayed in all these hotels since 2003. They have clean and big rooms. You have your own bathroom with toilet, bath tube, shower, hot and cold water, airco, minibar, telephone, TV, 24 hours roomservice, sofa and a table.

But why you need internet in your hotel? It only will rise the price of your room while there are so many real high speed internet cafes with ADSL just at the corner or within 50 meter walkingdistance from these hotels. They are much faster and cheaper than if you use the internet in the hotels if available. Besides you can take your laptop with you and connect him in an internet cafe to the internet. Prices for internet are very cheap.

Further they all are located near restaurants and shopping malls. The first three I emntioned are at Pradipat Road, this road is full of internet cafes and places where you can eat. Wattana Mansion is not far from 2 locations with large shoppping malls where you will find everything you can think of, including restaurants and internet cafes, all in walking distance if you are healthy, and a market is located at the other site when you cross the main road. Also banks and ATM's are everywhere.

When you like a luxury hotel with stars and internet in your room you can go to Elizabeth hotel or Mido hotel also at Pradipat Road near the other I mentioned, but the prices you pay there are higher and the rooms and facilities are equal to the cheaper ones I mentioned before. Near Wattana Mansion you will find also many hotels with stars and internet in your room, here too you will pay more for the same kind of room and facilities. However, you were asking for budget hotels, or not?

Bus stops, BTS and/or MRT, are also in a small walking distance from the mentioned hotels. Taxis and motobikes are waiting outside the hotels if you do not like to walk.....so what you like more :o

  11. Copy of ID card

Copy of residence certificate (Carnet de Residence/ Family Record Book)

6.4 Pensioner must prepare bank statement or pension fund

    Eljeque

Forgot to say that if you apply for a NON-IMM O (family visit), they like to see a copy of the ID-card and Family record book of your wife, and a house lease or rental agreement. Statement from the bank or pension fund, as mentioned in 6.4, are not asked for.

    Henri

  12. Yes, a tourist visa. I am interested in the plane ticket out of Thailand and also the hotel reservation.

I can bring my house lease, but they may truely want to see that I stay in a hotel... NON-permanent residency. The ticket: My travel agent can make that for me.

    Eljeque

When you apply for a tourist visa they don't ask for a hotel reservation and/or plane ticket. You make a copy of your house lease for them, and on the application form you write as reason for visit 'family visit'. That is it.

No problems, no hassle at all.

    Henri.

  13. You cannot register your marriage at the British embassy; you can only use the embassy to deposit a copy of your Thai marriage certificate with the General Records Office in the UK.....

Keep your divorce certificate and a certified English translation safe as you will need it if you ever want to prove you are divorced, e.g. if you wish to marry again sometime in the future.

    7by7

I am not a British national, so I didn't know you cannot register your marriage at the British Embassy. I guess they are an exception compared with other European Embassies.

Before I married I had to apply for a Certificate of Capaicity to Contract Marriage at my Embassy. This certificate, not older than 6 months, has to be translated and legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok. Next I could marry at any Amphur in Thailand.

After the marriage you will receive a marriage certificate "Kor Ror 3" from the Amphur. Since this certificate is not sufficient to register a marriage in my home country, I had to ask for a copy of "Kor Ror 2" too. Both certificates had to be translated in English and certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok and by my Embassy in Bangkok.

With these documents I can then register my Thai Marriage officially in the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages in my home country as well. Therefore, by having done this, I also have to register my divorce via my Embassy as I told Russ in my reply.

This explains my reply to Russ.

During your stay in Siem Reap and your visit to Angkor Wat I can recommend the following tuk-tuk driver:

    Mr. Bunny

    tel. 092 852 492 / 092 773 893

    e-mail: [email protected]

This is a very nice guy, speaks good English and has knowledge of the temples. He also can pick you up from the airport or the bus station if you inform him in advance. Knows the streets, comes on time, trustworthy and very helpful, most important off all, he doesn't ripp you off. I always use his services and call him before I arrive to pick me up at the bus station.

The place I prefer to stay is Continental Guesthouse. Its location is in the center of Siem Reap but away from the noise of the bars and pubs. Good place to exchange your money is about 150 meters at the right side of the guesthouse. Excellent bakery 10 meters at the left side. Downstairs there is a small restaurant with good food and very reasonable prices, they also have real massage for little money.

    Henri

  16. I now have my divorce certificate.....need to inform the British Embassy of the divorce?

    Russ

If you didn't registered your marriage at the British Embassy at that time, then there is nothing to inform them about now, since you have your Thai divorce certificate. If I was you I would have this certificate legalized in English.

  17. Asha Guesthouse, THB 400 (fan) and THB 500 (AC) (near Saphan Kwai station Skytrain, Suthisan station MRT by motorbike).......

I recommend this place, I stay there every time I am in Bangkok, it's inexpensive, clean and friendly. Also has a small swimming pool and gym.

    Mac

You are right, when you take a look at their site you will see the whole list of facilities available and photos of the place. It really is a great place, very clean, cheap, at a very good location between Saphan Kwai and Chatuchak market, and near shopping malls. Unfortunately, I just found them end of last year for the first time :o

    Henri.

  20. 27 December 2008, I came back from Phnom Penh with my new NON-IMM O Multiple entry visa for 1 year.......

    Henri

Please, which route did the bus take from Phnom Penh back to Sisophon? Via Battambang or via Siem Reap?......

    Mac

    Mac

The bus goes from Phnom Penh via Battambang to Poi Pet. The whole road from Phnom Penh to Poi Pet is asphalted and at the moment they are asphalting the last part of the road in Poi Pet. At the border you will be transferred to a Thai buscompany and have some time to eat and drink something. The bus will stop directly after the Thai customs, so no long walk over the market in the sun.

The telephone numbers and website from Sorya I know, but they also have a branch in BKK where you can buy tickets BKK to Phnom Penh. Sorya gave me the telephone number of this branche but unfortunately I lost it and you can't find it on their website :o

Hopefully someone else has their number and/or address in BKK, since the service and busses are really good, and the whole journey takes less than 14 hours.

    Hope this information was helpful.

    Henri.

  21. With a NON-IMM O multiple entry you can ask up to 4 entries (4 x 90 days).

    Not exactly.

With a Non O multiple visa you can enter as many times as you wish until the visa expires. As most people like to avoid unnecessary visa runs, that normally means 5 entries (the last one shortly before the visa expires) giving a total of almost 15 months in Thailand.

    Sophon

Sophon, I agree with you. But standard they will give you a single entry NON-IMM O with a validity of 90 days, as on the application form there is no check-box for a multiple entry NON-IMM O. However, you can enter the number of entries that you like to apply for.

So when you ask for 4 "entries", you get a 1 year multiple on which you can stay 15 months in Thailand, and like you say, you can leave and enter as many times as you wish, but at least every 3 months.

Hope I cleared things up with this explanation.

    Henri.

  22. Maestro, I hope you liked him.

BTW a NON-IMM O single entry cost in Phnom Penh US$ 65.00. With a NON-IMM O multiple entry you can ask up to 4 entries (4 x 90 days). Talking sweet and being polite will help you to get what you like. The prices for TV's are known already.

Concerning the TV at the Cambodian border I advise everybody to fill in their own form, don't accept any help for this simple form. When completed give it to the officer together with the US$ 20.00. They will start complaining and tell you that in Poi Pet only Thai Baht are accepted in accordance to a new government law.

This is just to rip you off. If they see you have Thai Baht they will ask between THB 1,000.00 and THB 1,500.00 for a TV. So don't give up and only show US$. Tell them that you have already changed all your money into US$ and that nobody has heard about this new 'law'. Hereafter, they will ask you for THB 500.00 administration costs. Keep smiling, start searching and come up with a 100.00 Baht note after a while, which you forget to change :o . This they will accept, thinking better something than nothing :D

Wish everybody a nice time in PP, your stay will be much cheaper than in Thailand for sure.

  23. 27 December 2008, I came back from Phnom Penh with my new NON-IMM O Multiple entry visa for 1 year (4 x 90 days) for US$ 175.00 (they only accept US$) :D

This was the second time I applied with success for a NON-IMM O in Phnom Penh and I can only say that the staff at the Thai embassy is very friendly and helpful. Multiple tourist visas are no problem too, besides if you need you can pick it up the same day. I know this since a couple before me applied for a double entry TV, they asked if it was possible to collect it the same day and this was granted.

For my application I had a copy of my marriage certificate, my wife's ID card, a copy of her blue book pages, birth certificates of our 2 children (I am not the natural father but it helps), rental contract, and a certificate of residence from my embassy (dated May 2003). No bank book or proof of income.

With this and some sweet talking the lady told me she had to consult the consular and within no time it was arranged :o

On the day I applied at 9:30 am, I had only 2 people in front of me, next day I picked up my visa at 3:30 pm and at that time I was there even alone.

Compared with the prices of Jack Golf and Bri and Joy, you save a lot of money IMHO for this simple trip.

    My total costs were:

Bus BKK to Aran (first class) THB 207.00, tuk tuk to the border THB 80.00, TV Cambodia US$ 20.00 plus THB 100.00 because I didn't pay in Thai Baht, bus to Phnom Penh US$ 8.00, guesthouse in PP 2 nights at US$ 7.00 = US$ 14.00, motor bike to and from Thai embassy (2 times) US$ 3.00, NON-IMM O multiple 1 year US$ 175.00, bus PP to Bangkok with Sorya Transport Company US$ 15.00.

I can recommend Sorya. They leave at 7 am and pick you up from your hotel, have several stops in Cambodia and have a comfortable bus. The road is good, the only bad part at this moment is inside Poi Pet, hereafter, the road is good. At the border you are transferred to a Thai bus company, same type like Jack Golf is using. In BKK they take the toll way and finally arrive around 8 pm at Kaosan Road. In Thailand the bus doesn't stop, but you have time to eat in Poi Pet.

So the total trip will cost you THB 8,612.00 (exchange rate 1 US$ = THB 35.00).

This compared with a single entry TV with Jack Golf for THB 6,600.00 is a much better deal, and certainly compared with the price of THB 12,500.00 of Bri and Joy. I guess you will agree with me :D

    post-3691-1230957162_thumb.jpg

I have scanned my visa as proof for you.
