  1. Hi,

I have a one year Retirement Visa from a European country. Have to leave Thailand every 90 days.

I would like to go to Mae Sai (Tachilek) for the day from Chiang Mai. My question:

Do I have to enter Myanmar or can I get the Thai enter-the-country stamp straight after the left-the-country stamp on the Thai side?

Reason; don't like to go to the market over the bridge again.

    Thank you for informing.

  2. Thanks for the info.

Yes, correct, 1 year retirement extension

I was not aware of it as I do not consult the forum for it. Yes, my mistake.

Rules are changing by the day and by the officers interpretation. Pattaya is different from Phuket and Chiang Mai and so on.

Still to me a very crazy rule and probably just to get foreigners more confused and an opening to get more money out of them.

    Just my 5 cents.

  3. I know this is Thailand but man.... what is going on in this country?

Went to immigration on Thursday 1 PM. Was asked to come back the next day. Explained my passport expiry date was August 1 st and if they could transfer my visa to my new passport later. Yes they could and would do it for free.

Friday arrived at 05.30 AM. About 70 people in front of me. At 07.30 with the officer who told me he could not give me the ticket as I did not had my passport with me. My wife would come around 09.00 AM with all documents.

After talking to the superintendent later I sat down with an officer at 11.30 AM. Lady could give yearly visa until passport expiry date only. Got nervous and explained they did it before. She sad cannot, "we never did that". Got more nervous. I told her yesterday an other officer told me they could do it. No way she replied, impossible. She got angry and she transferred me to her supervisor. Same story. Told him yesterday have been told could do. Never he replied. I told him my wife would go home and bring 2 passports. An old one and a newer one. It would show clearly the transfer of the yearly visa from one into another passport. No need to go he told me "we just changed the law"................. He told me also the officer yesterday was right...... they could transfer the visa to the new passport and for free but it would be voided and I would still have to apply for a new one again and pay the fees again...... Can you believe it?

I paid 1.900 Baht with all documents OK and got a visa until August 1 st which is my passport expiry date and thus for 2 months only.

All other countries I know of one can use the old and voided passport (with the visa in) together with the new passport. I got proof of 2 times they transferred my visa of my voided passport into my newer one without problems.

Are they right? Has the law indeed been changed? That would be the most stupid law in the world. Who on earth has a passport and visa expiring at the same date every time?

  4. Sorry Chiang Mai Kiwi,

    Me not understand:

"allows the horsepower to increase" and "If one drives normally then the sound isnt too loud"
Why not ride normal all time without adding horsepower and as a result increase the sound????????????
    RRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
  5. Simple and short: avoid at all cost.

After having many other issues, we decided to buy a water heater from them. While installing technicians made a few big mistakes and broke a water pipe. Flooding everywhere, they left quickly while the job was not finished. The next two days I called them about 20 times and went there about 5 times. We will contact you, we will come within 1 hour.......... bla bla bla....... The third day I got really pissed of and went straight to the second floor and managers office. Big consternation a farang doing this. I told them I would not go out without having a solution. (Young) manager himself came back to my home with his staff. The only thing I could get from him was to finish the job. No responsibility whatsoever for the damages despite his staff admitted their mistakes, they could see the remainders of it and I showed them video and pictures.

  6. Please be so kind to read my post #130 on this threat:

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/810531-foreign-tourists-allegedly-dumped-on-tollway-by-thai-taxi/page-6

My story was not in the news so I am still waiting for police to act. Unfortunately that will never happen just as in so many other cases.

OK, bye bye, sorry to disturb. You can go back to bed now and dream away.

Where are the members now, who, in their wisdom and without facts, were adamant that this occurred, so much so that they howled down, criticised and denigrated others without accepting that those others had different points of view. Even when evidence came to light that the storey was a fabrication, some just would not let go nor accept that they were wrong and kept on and with their churlish chides, regardless of how foolish they continued to look.

What is it with some, just because someone has a different outlook, they apparently need to have some wise man explain to them the reasons for them being wrong. It appears that unless you think with the pack, then whatever you post is scoffed at because you dare to think differently. Now, if you do, then they will attack you and if you dare to challenge back, watch out because this is when the name calling starts, the post is rubbished, because it is meaningless and the so called expert alleges it is unintelligible, and from then on the attacks become relentless. I think some try to solicit angry responses and when unable to, the remarks passed become more intense and highly derogatory.

Maybe some of the posters, who were adamant as to the factualness of the incident and then carried on the way they did, should have a long hard look at themselves and then before coming to and posting such unproven and fallacious statements they should engage their brain before opening their mouths. Now with the police threatening legal action, it would be appropriate for a few to beware of the knock on the door. One never knows and it would be nice to see a few taught a lesson. But so be it in a day on TVF but at least I know who had the last laugh, and no I won't gloat over it. whistling.gif

  7. Well..... no one will be punished I guess.

Years ago, I took a cab at Silom Serene hotel to the Don Muang airport.

The hotel security wrote a ticket and noted the license plate of the cab. All agreed on the fare which I paid. After he drove off, he started to ask for more money, I refused. On the highway he asked again a few times and more commanding, I refused.

He stopped the car on the highway, put my luggage on the road and ordered me to get out. I was on the highway for at least half an hour before I could get another cab. I missed my flight.

Back home I complained with the Silom Serene hotel, police and taxi organization. To my many emails, the only thing I got back was, that apparently the license plate was not registered.

For the Thai, case closed. For me, still very angry and upset after all those years.

  8. Not even worth digging deeper into this.

Most (correct) answers were given to the OP already.

BTW; take a car or motorbike and drive around with open eyes. You will see many of those "returners on investment" all over Chiang Mai. Unfortunately for the investors (believers) now in ruins or even never started construction. Phrom behind Le Meridien Hotel and Golf Park on Doi Sakhet road to name a few.

Green Valley condo could not sell the "normal" way so they started using this doubtful tactics as well.

Oh... sometimes big international real estate names involved.

Watch out or BETTER; not even consider it. Call it legal scams.

  9. As there is no longer free press and we have to trust whatever the army sends out as news it would be wise to think before we applaud them onto greater discoveries. Dare I say a not to effective PR campaign from an outfit that has its thinking and ideologies entrenched from over a century ago. They find these weapons caches and yet when the C n C was asked many questions , by the foreign journalists, he muttered one word and walked away.

I have not doubt there are serious weapons out there, on both sides, whatever they find will not scrape the surface. Its a scary thought when you are trying to control the masses to accept your doctrine, that one might have your name on it.

Doubt we will see here as news is censored but just saw one of Thaksins aides on Australia Network discussing the setting up of a "network" of peaceful resistance to the current junta. All he would say was that it would not be in a ASEAN country but they would have a base in a country which has a democracy model they wish for Thailand and have free unfettered access to the press.

    Has the fightback begun?

    Hello "red" city,

If there is no free press anymore then why I have to read this nonsense?

Try to get the idea of what "no free press" exactly means first.

I remember in the dark Thaksin years, some journalists were fired and others ............

  10. Why all these big CNN's, BBC's are continously twisting the facts or just bringing a part of of it? Their part and not the whole picture?

Why always that one sided news like the arrest of former PTT education minister who gave remarks on the coup? You notice how many reporters around? Never about bomb-makers and bomb-throwers arrested. Never about farmers paid.... No foreign cameras there, not one.

Yes, I know they eating out of the hands of the people with money but on this scale and on so serious issues?

  11. Hi,

I like to drink a good bourbon whiskey so I bought a bottle of Kentucky Jack at Nimmahimin.

Believe they got me this time; it doesn't smell bourbon, it doesn't taste bourbon.

Who wants to smell and taste a glass to make sure I am right or wrong.

    Connoisseurs only please.

    PM me.

    Thanks

  12. How come?

Yingluck told and promised us all earlier this year: NO SMOG/DUST in 2013. She would do everything necessary, Even jail some.....

Maybe a misunderstanding. This is going on for 20 years + and even her brother told us not to worry as well. Big brother promised almost 10 years ago fish would swim in the klongs within 6 months? All water treatment plants in Chiang Mai have never been used coz not one works..... how come?
