  1. Seam0nster,

I did see that VSF Closed message a week or so ago but even then, it was not all offices in Thailand, just those in Bangkok. At that time, the Chiang Mai office was still open. Not sure what the current situation is, but it does seem to be that with the exception of the recent public holiday closures that they may be open in some offices of Bangkok currently so maybe that is where the confusion is arising. The other point of confusion may be that offices may be open for Visa applications but not supply a Passport Renewal Service?

From this link, https://www.vfsglobal.com/en/individuals/covid-19-customer-advisories.html you can see the latest (a few days ago so maybe not updated) status:-

  2. 1 Medium Cube (146x112x187cm = 54x44x73inches) was about 700 GBP shipping plus added door to door service about an additional 400 GBP as I thought this was easier with all the customs work and with covid restictions in place in the UK and in Thailand so nothing required in the UK (once the on;ine forms completed) except the pickup slot and loading,  or at this (Thailand) end except agreeing the delivery slot and unloading in Issan..

If you have a multiple entry non-o visa issued by a embassy you will have to leave the country every 90 days.

You can apply for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry you will get. You will need 400k baht in a Thai bank for 2 months on the day you apply for the extension or proof of 40k baht income.

After the extension is issued you can then apply for a multiple re-entry permit (3800 baht) or single re-entry permit (1000 baht).

Can anyone point me to the list of documents required for the "application for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage" please? What is the latest rule on the 400k account? Can it be in an account paying interest?

  4. Hi Maestro and/or anyone who knows...

I had a condo in BKK with both a blue and a yellow Tabien Baan which I sold about a year ago and after selling it I applied and received a yellow Tabien Baan for my new address, my wife's house in Korat for which she holds the blue Tabien Baan. We did NOT do a TM30 then. We then left Thailand and came to the UK for a year and are just about to come back to Thailand and will hopefully arrive for 2 weeks of ASQ prison on Monday, followed by a trip back to Korat. My question is, as  am already registered at my wife's address in a yellow book, do I need to complete a TM30 on release from the ASQ and upon getting back home to my wife's house in Korat?

    Your advice would be appreciated.

Got a quote for 2021 from UK insurance company, total was £300 for six months including all usual stuff, cancellation, theft etc etc, plus £1million covid cover for emergency treatment and repatriation.
Thought that sounded like a decent price. These Thai prices are bonkers

“Travel” policies usually only cover a set trip length. People are covered for a year but not for a year long trip. The cover would lapse unless you returned home at the end pf the “trip” cover and took “another trip” during the year’s cover period. Yes, some, a very few last time I checked cover a year trip, bit these are the exception. Check your small print.

“Health insurance” is different from “Travel insurance”.  That is more likely to be a yearly cover as it is usually ongoing for life and not necessarily trip/travel related.

  6. Alternative to the bird spikes might be the plastic cable ties. Pull them tight around the railing with the excess sticking upwards. With enough of them close enough to each other they will have a similar effect as the spikes as the birds will have nowhere to perch. No messy glue required, and cheap too! biggrin.png

  7. Yes there is much insensitivity here.

The other day on an elevator, some Thais holding a very chubby and shall I say UGLY baby. The baby is looking at me. I am smiling at the baby trying to be a sport.

The baby starts crying. Oh well!

The Thais then start insulting me: calling me fat (in Thai), calling me UGLY (in English).

    Wow.

Yes I know Thais call people fat all the time but this was malicious.

It's like being regarded as a thing with absolutely no feelings.

Don't worry about it. The only thing they got left is that most of them are slim so they call everybody fat. Besides I dont know when they are going to notice that they are not slim because they are in good shape but they are simply skinny fat so they should just stay quiet.

?????????what the jumpin jehosafat is "skinny fat"? Am I missing something here?w00t.gif

Yes, you are missing something. Skinny fat example quote FYI:-

"The common wisdom is that if you are overweight you are unhealthy, and if you are thin, you are healthy. But new research points to just how dangerous being skinny can be -- if you are a "skinny fat" person, that is.

The medical term for this is "MONW," or metabolically obese normal weight, which many prefer to refer to as being a skinny fat person. It means you are under lean but over fat -- not enough muscle and too much fat (especially belly fat). It seems it is better to be fat and fit than thin and out of shape.

While we know that 68 percent of the American population is overweight, and that most have diabesity -- being somewhere on the continuum of pre-diabetes to Type 2 diabetes -- the shocking news from a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association is that nearly 1 in 4 skinny people have pre-diabetes and are "metabolically obese."

What's worse is that if you are a skinny fat person and get diagnosed with diabetes, you have twice the risk of death than if you are overweight when diagnosed with diabetes."

  8. Depends how serious you are and how much you ware willing to pay.

I am not a member but I have heard that the Fitness First in the Mall Bangkapi does yoga classes.

    Otherwise some ideas to try....

There used to be an expensive looking place at Town in Town but not sure if it is still there.

You could try the Sports Authority of Thailand gym (next door to Ram Uni)? That might be cheap if they do have Yoga classes.

There also used to be a gym above the big 7-11 next to the petrol station on Ram 65 (Mahadthai) that did some fitness classes. Not sure if yoga was one of them.

Hope that helps. Give us all an update if you do check these or other places out please.

  9. Hmmmm...

All of out Tambien Bans are blue.

Had my yellow one for a few years now. Not needed to get it out often, but looks like it might cover more than I realised, i.e. some/all of the hospital costs if in the local district. Thanks for the info bendebeer.

    Southernman,

Foreigners can not be listed as owner in a blue one, only as tennant/registered a living there. If you want to be listed as owner you get a blue one with no name in it as owner, unless you supply someone else's name (must be a Thai citizen), and you can apply for a yellow book with you listed as owner (if there is noone listed as owner in the blue one). Any one living at the address can be added to the blue book if the owner approves it and has the right paperwork to register at the district office. You might want to look into it more and get one if you qualify. It is also useful as additional ID when two or more forms of ID are required.

  10. Try one of the modular schools if you are serious about putting in the time. E.g. UTL. Monthly set modules so you can oick up again where you left off and they are a decent price and you chose morning or afternoon thenthe rest of the time for revision and free time. Genuinely interested teachers for the most part, and although you can get a visa it is not a visa factory like others, including others in the same building.

  11. JD,

Not heard it very often myself, and I've been in Thailand (mostly living in BKK) for 6 years. One of the other students brought it up and the teacher explained it as I said above. Guess unless you are listening for it, or, as you said, in the right situation, then you might not hear it. I agree, everyone has different experiences. Some people I know think I am really advanced with my Thai compared to them, and I vice versa; it is mostly down to vocab we pick up that others have not yet experienced. Vocab in a slum is not going to be the same as used in a palace; to take two extremes. If your hobby is model railways and talk to Thais and read Thai about that, then you are not going to have the same vocab as someone who only talks to bar girls about sick buffaloes. :D
