  1. MPT you to date have been involved in getting your Oz visa but you mentioned possibly having one of you children attending an Australian School.

You need to look into this before arranging your tickets as if you are not Australian and a Resident getting your child into a school will be difficult and COST an arm and leg even at a Government School.

And you are right - we have to 'play' or we get nothing back.  Yanks and Poms can apply when they are overseas. It annoys me that the socialist welfare state that is now Oz, spends so much on dole bludgers and druggies and refugees and single mums and others, but makes is hard for people who have paid taxes/contributed for over 30 years to get the pension and live overseas in their 'dying' years.

While the first part of your comment is fair enough, I am tired of all you people who believe you are entitled to an OAP pension because you contributed to it through your Tax installments of any kind over your working life. YOU DID NOT unless you are now in excess of 85 years old.

The Tax we paid over the years went into "consolidated revenue" still does and provides for the "social expenditure " of Centrelink on an annual basis. ie those getting OAP and dole as you call it etc TODAY. So if everybody in OZ downs tools tomorrow and no revenue is collected you all miss out.

The element of TAX that was separately accounted for the OAP was absorbed around 1948.

They did a similar thing with all the Super Contributions of the armed forces PMG and other Federal Goverment employees including the politicians. All went well until a few smart Polly's woke up that they really did not have any Super hence the sale of Telecom Australia /Telstra in1997 and the creation of the Future Fund.

Yanks and Poms have a completely different system, 401k etc.

What they get is essentially their contributed monies back. It is like a Government run Super Scheme in some ways.(my analogy)

By the way the Australian Politicians are  now discussing something similar, behind closed doors, so the can get their hands on the Billions and Billions of $ the private Super world has to play with.

  3. Any vehicle nowadays with that high a mileage in such as short space of time (assuming the car is not that old) will likely give you issues. They are driven hard here in high heat, high humidity city settings... bit different to dry Texas with those big open roads. rolleyes.gif

However, the service manager's throwaway this-is-Thailand line narks me somewhat. So what he's basically saying is, put up with it because my country is crap and we don't give a ****. whistling.gif

So you dislike people telling you the truth

  4. All the discussion has been about answering if tiles can go directly onto SuperBlocks.

ALL WALLS and particularly aerated blocks should have a waterproofing membrane (Davco) or similar applied before tiling to prevent water leakage through the grout lines and damaging the wall on the other side.

All standard tile adhesives and grouts are then compatible with these membranes.

  5. Rubbish. Give them an extra 200 baht and no need to translate. Money speaks every language to them

    Your the one talking rubbish.

Thirty years ago I followed this advice-may have been from your father- in regard to getting my stepson a Thai Passport.

Only some very Kow Tow smart talking by my wife got us the passport and kept me out of jail for trying to bribe a Thai Public Official. Or as she put it servant of the King.

Be very careful with whom you try this.

  6. They might as well estimated between 9 - 90. Just this week, Russian raped, Australian bottled and now another victim. This remain a lawless country by any standards.

    Rubbish !!!

Have a look at Perth Australia this week. House invasion with gun. Owners beat them off with golf clubs.

Two car jackings one with rifle/

Boy in coma due to 4 louts trying to pinch his trial bike.

    Two service outlet armed robberies.

You Thai Bashers really should keep up with the rest of the world.

It's all fuelled by drugs etc. Not a culture and Thailand is not alone

  7.

My lawyer wants me to pay 5k and tell her to get f#%ked. But I don't think that's too fair.

But the above seems a bit steep I think. Came here to see what people think.... Especially the last 6 years

He's right. Anyhooooo this Uni thing seems a bit premature to me. Perhaps she don't want Uni.

What you agree in a divorce contract to pay and what you actually pay out because you want your child to have a good life are too very separate things.

Follow your lawyers advice that is what you are paying them for, and do not bring you Western ideas of "fair play" East, you will only lose out.

  8. Things are getting tougher and you may find villages that do not worry but they are catching up just as when I grew up in Australia to get a licence in the country the first question the cop would ask was. Is that your car out front." Then "Did you drive it here?"

If you answered yes to those qquestions you left with a licence covering car truck and bike.

Now you are really showing your age.

  9. Speaking of "Rip Off" and Thai business acumen maybe its because you guys have a new International airport, no ones told us about.

Having just booked 3 rooms for 4 days at prominent hotel in Huay Keaw Road ( spelling) at a cost of 20K+ baht and requesting airport pick-up, I was told 100 Baht per person if Thai Airways, 250 Baht per person for any other airline. As we have 7 people figure that.

Cheaper to have my driver come in from Maeon and sort it.

  10. If she goes into Thailand and wants to stay more than 30 days, she can by going to Thai Immigration and get an extension of stay for 1 year for 1900 Baht. This is because her Australian Passport shows her birth place as Thailand. She can make this multi-entry for another 3800 Baht. She does have to provide a letter giving her reason for extending, eg mother sick, buffalo sick. She does not have to leave the Kingdom.

My wife does this all the time, as I wont allow her to have a Thai Passport, for many reasons.

You keep her chained up as well?

As a Thai/Australian PP holder, I can't yet find one reason why not to use my Thai PP. I'd be interested to hear what slipshod theories you have?

As a person who married a Thai, probably many years before you were born,(from following many of your previous posts) and having two Thai sons that would surely kick your a$$ if they heard you speak to their father like that.

Regardless of this I will demean myself to answer your questions.

    1. You know very little about older Northern Thai women if you think any mere male could keep them in any form of physical or emotional chains. Especially my wife.

    2. When we married her national rights were removed and all of here various property and business interests, over the years, are in her maiden name. For her to rearrange her affairs to get a Thai Passport in her married name, the only way the double passport evasion of Visa fees works in this high security world is just too much trouble.

The reason you may not of thought of this is possibly your Thai male inherent arrogance.

Yes you touched a nerve as do many of your "know it all" posts

  12. There is a guy on Thapae Rd. with a sign that says from 36,000. There is some mention of UCLA. I think you only save 5000 by getting the Thai made post. The ones from Switzerland and America are the international standard. It doesn't surprise me that a dentist in Oz would badmouth Thai dentistry. They hate competition and price advertising, just like America. Most Thais have very nice teeth, probably inverse of the number in Cambodia or the UK. This clinic has a least one dentist from CMU school of Dentistry: www.ssdentalclinicshiangmai.com. Grace is most well known, but seems to have high prices.

Popped by there about a year ago when I needed some work. The mention of UCLA inspired me to go there. Turns out the Dentist took one course there.

Yes but it was an 18 month course specialising in "Dental Implants". He also employs other specialists eg Dr Joy for root canals etc. You really should be careful about what you imply.

Sorry it was 12 month course. BTW Do a check on Dental 4 U Thaepae Rd and Elite Smile and you will see Dr Warut Muttaruk is the implant specialist at both. His CV is on the Dental 4 U site. BTW he is my dentist and friend.

  14.

I have a Camry which is now almost 5 years old but has only 32.000 km.

I suspect that they would like to do a 60.000 km service next time when it is in the garage.

As long this is a normal service i don't care how they call it but if this is one of the big intervals with for example belt change i will pass as this only has to be done when you really are doing the mileage.

Rubbish, belt changes especially the "Timing Belt" are very time dependent as the belt rubber hardens, like tyres.

Failure to change can result in catostrophic engine failure if they break. I just paid $AUD1800 to have it done on wifes 2006 Holden Vectra (Opel/Vauxhall) with 35000Km in Perth
