  1. Your 90 Day Non Immigrant Type 'B' Entry is still perfectly valid, just get your employer to reapply with form WP1 and then once the application is accepted Labour should then issue your WP without your needing to make a further visa run (providing the process is complete within the 90 day Permiited Entry).

Normally this is not a problem, but some one is being 'super diligent' at Labour - WP1 is technically the correct application form in your case, normally most use the WP3.

Great....that's the news I wanted to hear.

    Thanks for your advice.

I'll report back on how it goes....

  2. Dear Friends,

I probably should have posted for advice earlier as I now find myself in a bit of a mess. Due to several "mistakes" by my company, obtaining firstly the Non-B visa, and subsequently the Work Permit has been a real drama.

Firstly, I went off to HCMC, Vietnam last month with "all" the required paperwork in hand only to be rejected on the basis that I did not have a WP3 slip or letter of approval from the Ministry of Labor. So I returned to Thailand empty handed on that occasion and was reassured by my company that they would get the required WP3 and letter organized.

Skip to the beginning of November. Now with the WP3 and letter of approval in hand, I returned to HCMC and got the Non-B, no problems at all and everything seemed to be going smoothly.

Now the real problem (I am being advised by our HR it is a BIG problem) started when I went to collect the Work Permit this week at the Labor Department (Din Daeng). They looked at the paperwork and my passport/Non-B visa and have refused my work permit. I am told they said that the WP3 is to be issued when the "alien" is outside of the country, and I was back in Thailand at that time (they just cross checked the stamps with the date on the WP3).

I was trusting the company to sort this out, but frankly they seem to be creating more problems along the way. I actually think they might have lied about me being out of the country so they could get the paper.

Anyway, I was told today something along the lines of they would have to re-apply again for the work permit (I think with a WP1?).

My biggest concern now and what I would appreciate some advice on is this: I was told that since the WP3 was invalid (used the wrong form since I was in Thailand) - now the Non-B is invalid! Can this be true? Meaning I have to go and surrender it to immigration, leave the country (I read somewhere within 24 hrs), pay any overstay and go through the hassle of getting another Non-B.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  3. There's a nice friendly gym down on Chok Chai 4, Soi 23. It's called GetFit Center. Just search for their website.

They have quite good equipment and also a 25m swimming pool.

  4. I am looking for a recommendation for a sports injury specialist in Bangkok. I have been suffering with what I am quite sure is Patellar tendinitis in my knees. It started about 3 months back and initially I went to Paolo Memorial Hospital where the doctor wasn't particularly helpful. He did agree it was most likely tendinitis and prescribed some anti-inflammatory pills. It seemed to only slightly relieve the problem. I have also been trying the RICE treatment (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation) and have been using ice packs on my knees every hour or so in the evening when I get home.

Anyway, the problem persists and appears to be getting worse, it feels like my knees are seizing up in the mornings. I think I have tried all the common solutions including wearing knee supports but they don't seem up to the job (at 99 baht what do you expect). Needless to say I have not been exercising for a while which is getting me down.

So have any fellow posters suffered from this condition? I have decided to seek a specialist and actually was thinking of Bumrungrad but really think a sports injury specialist may be of more help. I imagine I need some decent meds along with some special supports for the tendons in my knees and no doubt after the lack of activity for 3 months I also need some physiotherapy. Any recommendations or suggestions would be appreciated.

Also if anyone can reccomend a good shop where I can buy some decent knee supports and heel absorbers (if thats what they are called) would also be very helpful.

    Thanks in advance.

  5. I just posted this one on another thread, seems relavant here also...

I was searching for a similar topic. I think I'll post a new thread for my case, but just want to add a comment on the above here.

I have a work permit and am on a non immigrant ED so it is indeed possible (I read so people saying it was not possible before I tried and succeeded), I am not working as a teacher though. I have been studying at Bangkok University (BBA Marketing degree) for the past 3 years and had a work permit for the past 2. Renewal have been quite painless, in my case the work permit has probably been the easy part.

My question was the feasability of obtaining an Non-Immigrant B as I want to work full-time and therefore will not meet the minimum number of course to renew the Non-immigrant ED.

  7. "The Road Safety Center Friday ended its road toll monitoring throughout the Songkran Festival's so-called "seven dangerous days" and concluded there was a total of 368 deaths and 4,803 injuries in 4, 243 accidents nationwide.

When compared to the same period last year, this year's figures were 31 less accidents, seven more deaths, and two less injuries, said Deputy Prime Minister Sahas Banditkul." (The Nation)

Is the -31 +7 -2 numbers that are quoted supposed to be considered an improvement? That is more dead on the roads in 1 week than they get in the UK on average per year.

This happens every year at Songkran so "mai pen rai". Those who have had the power to take actions to stop the carnage on the roads, like those that seem to be effective anywhere else in the world should hold their heads in shame.

My girlfriends sister Nui was actually on this bus and is now in hospital. She has been severely disabled all her life and works selling lottery tickets in Bangkok, now she has several broken bones and possible internal injuries. She has told the family that when she got on the bus a farang guy was sitting in her seat. She agreed to swap seats with him, this was Andrew Michel Bludigis who was then killed in the accident. She is in absolute shock. Its a terrible tragedy for all involved.

My girlfriend said her family were distraught about the death of Mr.Bludigis, there is no positive element to that twist o fate. I hope that if nothing else this tradegy will make foreigners who come here more aware of the dangers of being on the roads at his time, in fact at anytime of the year in Thailand.

On behalf of Nui and her family, sincere condolences to the family of Mr.Bludigis's and to all the people effected by this tragedy.

  8. There is no legal minimum salary for foreigners who work for corporate companies.

There is no minimum salary requirement for the application for a non-O visa.

There is a minimum salary requirement for the application for an extension of stay. See the attachment to Royal Thai Police Order No. 606/2549.

    Maestro

Ok, thanks. To be honest wherever I have searched for this topic there always seem to be contradictions as to who is entilted to exactly what, knowing the Thai system I assume thats the idea.

To be honest I am not really bothered about the visa renewal, it was the more the purple kings that were on my mind.

Thanks for that doc Maestro that will certainly make the negotation easier :o Cheers

  9. I need some advice, preferably from someone who was in the same shoes as me. Here is my situation-

I will work ("part-time") for a large software company (50+ employees, large turnover). I will be the only foreigner employed there.

I will earn 30k per month as an assistant to the CEO. Responsibilities that may help my case are communicting with English speaking suppliers, clients and partners. Giving company and product presentations to English speaking clients.

My previous education includes 9 GCSE's, BTEC National Diploma in Design, Cambridge CELTA (this is not a teaching job), I also have a few software certificates (advanced).

I am 29 and had three years experience as a customer services manager in the UK before coming to Thailand.

I currently study at Bangkok University International College, and am in my second year of a B.B.A Marketing degree.

    I currently hold a non-immigrant ED visa.

I understand from friends and some things I picked up on google that I can get the work-permit. I worked as a teacher for a while and so always thought that a degree was the basic requirment, I now believe this is only the case for a teaching license?

So, please don't reply with the same old response you give to visa-runners/under the radar teachers. I am also not interested in graduating early at the Khao San Road.

    So,

    1. Can I get a work permit under these circumstances?

    2. Will I need to return to Penang to change my non-immigrant ED? to the non-immigrant B?

    3. Is it easier to do this through a lawyer? what are the likely costs? any reccomendation for a lawyer in BKK would be appreciated.
