  1. We have those white lines in my town also. They may as well not be there as no one seems to pay attention to them. It seems that there is one poster here that claims to not pay attention to them.
  2. Back home a crow would bring walnuts from a tree about 100 m away drop them on the road, sit on a fence post and wait for a car to come by and run over it. When out walking if I saw one on the road I would crack it open for it. It was not long until when he saw me coming, he would drop one in front of me. They say crows can recognize faces and can hold a grudge against an individual.
  3. Think about the last time you saw a lumber mill or a paper mill in Thailand.
  4. Thais love fish heads. There was a restaurant near Samsen train station that became famous for its deep-fried fish heads. They had to start restricting the number of orders due to all the fish bodies they had to throw away.
  5. How would the residents know what he used the money for? Were they selling it to him?
  6. One place I go, I'm a regular. If they see me come in, they know what I will order, I don't have to stand in line. I go sit at a table outside, they bring my drink out to me. When I leave I clean up my own mess. Would they give me the same service if I didn't tip? Most likely. but I think they deserve one. What came first, the chicken or the egg?
  7. Right now it is still yesterday there
  8. Trump met with the family https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/04/02/trump-ruby-garcia-michigan-murder/
  9. As I live rural, I tip quite a bit. Many locals try and fail at keeping their businesses going out here. If I find a mom-and-pop shop that I like I tip well. Chain outlets with tip boxes not so much.
  10. But you are the very one who said you don't want to pay more to have a shirt made so the workers could have better pay. A g word comes to mind.
  11. So Germany invaded Poland and France. It was just THEIR war? At what point do you act against an aggressor? Only when he is at your doorstep?
  12. I think I am. It is always the innocent that get hurt the most. I know that song by heart, and still find it hard to turn the other cheek when the aggressor is using a bat.
  13. Now sure about Thai law. But don't you need to be caught in the act?
  14. Same here. I had a bridge, 3 crowns, going on 30 years now. Well worn, but still there.
  15. For me anyway, it would be more work to learn Modern. I have put so much time into reading Traditional. I can see that if you are trying to learn to write, the Modern would be easier but I need to write so little I will stick to Traditional.
  16. Yes, that does help up to a point. I used to ride my bicycle up to get coffee but in this heat I had to give that up. It was not so much the heat as it was that when I would get to the shop I would have sweated so much that it looked like I had pissed myself. I see other Thai riders nearly as dry as a bone. Northern European heritage has some drawbacks in this weather.
  17. I work outside until around 11. By then all my clothes are soaked in sweat. Take my first shower of the day and then off to the coffee shop for about an hr. Come home check my mail, the news, and this site, then study my Thai and Spanish sitting in front of a fan. I go out and do some gardening off and on for a 1/2 hr at a time. About now it is time for my second shower. I turn on the A/C around 3pm.
  18. On the cheap, there is that roll insulation https://www.lazada.co.th/products/5mm-90cm-2m-insulation-aluminium-foil-i2606309418-s9329922897.html putting batts to hold it. Depending on the size, I have found that covering the top with shade cloth helps a lot ( has to be replaced every 1 or 2 years depending how bad the weather has been)
  19. I see your point, but that only gives the people who don't wish to carry the right to. That leaves us to guess how many do. But in a state where you still need to get a permit the people getting them are likely to do so. Take New Jersey for example. https://www.njspotlightnews.org/2024/03/nj-concealed-handgun-permits-soared-after-bruen-ruling-scotus-second-amendment/
  20. I wonder why Texas gets mentioned as so violent. It has 3 of the safest cities on the FBI top 10 list. https://www.security.org/resources/most-dangerous-cities/
  21. During my Uni years, I lived near an Indian Reservation (US). One day, one of the Indian locals came down the street with a cast on his leg. I asked him what had happened. He pointed to the fourth-floor window across the street and said he fell out of the window backward. He said Thank God he was drunk at the time or he surely would have died.
  22. When your number is up you are not going to be thinking beforehand " Boy, I'm glad I took such in such or I would be dead already" or " If I had only taken such and such I could waste another week of oxygen."
