  1. A bold old yank where I once lived in the Ekamai Bkk area use to shower naked in an open shower near the pool. This really huge farang spotted him doing this one day and basically said if he sees him doing it again it would be his last time. Looks a little like this same moron.

  2. Documents from the bank and a sit down to discuss all the details and what happened is what would happen in an honest relationship. I have seen this "I need thousands now or xxx will happen" too many times. Normally from uneducated farm girls who have been out gambling. Friend was notified by his GF that he needed to pay 1 million baht to a loan shark or loose his house. Less that a week later he walked and never looked back, best decision he made in 10 years.

  3. Had the gf niece come to stay with us in Pattaya years back. Her parents were having problems with her and boys so wanted to get her out of the village. After a few days I started to notice money missing. I was not not 100% sure what was happening so I just started to be a little more careful and kept track how much I had. One morning to our surprise she was gone. Noticed later that $200.00 USD that I had hide in the bedroom was gone too. We told her parents what had happened and that she was not welcomed back. Needless to say her nor any other relative was ever welcomed to stay again for more than a meal. That girl ended up having a baby at 15 years old and is basically a waste of space. We were lucky that she was a real tramp and headed back to her boyfriends as soon as she thought she had hit it big. Maybe give the boy 5k baht and send him to Bangkok to stay with friends or other family. One way , no return !!!

  4. OP i think you should keep your nose out of other peoples business.

So if an old lady asked for your help you would turn your back on her ? Letting her family know that there is a situation going on and having them sort it out was a very responsible thing to do. This guy is a real man unlike others who would turn a blind eye.
  5. I like Thailand too. Have been here for a long time and have seen both good and bad. What makes Thailand good for me is that there is always people out and about socializing. In the morning the coffee shops are full, afternoon everyone having their lunch in the malls and around town, dinner and evening people sitting around street stands, at beer bars, along the river having drinks and eating. There is always someone to chat to and a friendly lady to give you a second look. For the most part it is a friendly place to meet people and enjoy life. Many dark things about Thailand and low life's lurking about but if you avoid the areas where they hang out and get home fairly early you can normally be safe.

  6. Singapore is designed to make you part with your money and doesn't exactly give you value in return.

The place is hurting badly, from an economic POV, so they will welcome your custom even more.

Universal Studios and are overpriced and the queues for the rides will waste a whole day. Also be wary of the so called iconic things you MUST do…they ail drain you of all your cash in return for scant enjoyment.

Things like having a drink on the top of Marina Bay Sands at $25 a pop….with snotty service.

Simple things are best in Singapore.

    Do:

    1. Check out hawker centre food…Newton, Maxwell etc.

    2. Visit at least one seafood restaurant in the east coast park.

    3. Singapore Zoo is the best Ive ever seen

    4. Gardens by the Bay as someone else said

    5. No one shops at Orchard Road any more….it's way overpriced and all the overcharging goes to cover their insane rental charges.

Universal Singapore is a little smaller than the one at Orlando but still done very well. If your partner is Thai and has never seen anything except Thai attractions she will be blown away. Unlike others here on TV, I think the rides are great. I recommend Revenge of the Mummy, Madagascar A Crate Adventure, Transformers, and for cute but well done Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase. My Thai gf and I went this last Christmas Day and it was packed but had a great time. I did however get the VIP pass which was expensive but we didn't wait in any lines and saw everything. If however you go on a week day in July the lines should not be too long but it will be hot and perhaps it will rain. Get there at opening and hit the rides I spoke of first while normal lines and not too long.

I also recommend going to the top of the Marina Sands and seeing the light show and the city at night. The Gardens by the Bay which others have spoke about and is near the Marina Sands is also fantastic and a must see. Combine both the Garden and the Sands in one evening. Enjoy your stay but expect to drop a few dollars, it's expensive compared to Thailand.

  7. Thais believe in just about what ever the monks say is true, I think it's as simple as that.

For me, let's just say that I don't disbelieve in ghosts or spirits. I guess I am open to anything but it has to be proven. I do think that man's knowledge is very limited. In the next 100 years I think we will disprove a few things we now believe are correct and prove a few things that we currently believe are not possible.

  8. Most of the incidents we read about happen late at night and involve alcohol. I have seen this in the last year time and time again just in the places I drink and even with the guys I hang with. The number of fights mostly involved farang on farang and were alcohol induced.

My advise, after a few beers and before too late go home. Also, if someone in your group is starting to get out of hand or loud call it a night or just go to another place away from them. Maybe just become a morning person and exercise and enjoy the sunrises and forget about the alcohol .... :(

  9. If it is only two guys on a street then I think I would fight and go after each as if my life depended on it, and would win ! If 3 or more perhaps it is a swing like crazy and run like hell into a shop someplace near by and call police. This is a no win situation but I won't just sit and let cun/-s kick the shit out of me. They will also pay a price.

  10. Driving around north west Thailand the last two days. Most of the ponds are dry or have a foot or two of water. The river banks are wider than I have seen for years. A few smaller rivers are dry.

Not sure when this will change but if no major rain in the next three to four weeks I think there will start being runs on drinking water. Just in case I have stocked 8 packs above what I normally keep. That should at lease hold me over until I can book a flight.

  11. If you have a lot of snakes around you probably have rats and frogs also. Rats in a country house will lead to snakes in the house.

Living in country I quickly learned basically which snakes were ok and which I should kill. However, If I was unsure I killed. Most I would trap and relocate.

  12. Times change and so do laws. The thing that bothers me is that I see new rules and laws being passed and then started the next day. If a bar has a license to sell alcohol and does not break any existing laws it is not fair to cancel their license until perhaps it expires. Here it seems that everything is done without any thought of fairness or consideration. Not sure how these bars fit into this but I see it with laws about immigration, opening hours, gatherings, etc etc ....

  13. You never know when a ruling or law in this land is enacted that will have a major impact on your life. If given a year to make changes would still be bad but perhaps acceptable here however it is an overnight event and no time to plan. Can not count on anything here !

  14. Maybe already stated by someone, Ferraro Rocher Chocolate, these round lovely chocolates are a favorite of my gf. I don't remember the exact pricing but my gf would normally buy a 5 pack. She asked me one day when I was doing the shopping to pickup some. There chocolates come in different amounts normally 3 or 5 packs for the smaller packages. It turns out at Lotus that a 5 pack which should be cheaper per piece is about the same price as two 3 packs or 6 pieces. So basically why would anyone ever buy a 5 pack when you can get two 3 packs for the same price.

I have noticed this on some can food sometimes that you pay more per item when you buy in larger quantity.
