(Mods - please advise me if this is in breach of posting guidelines)
I posted this before in the Jobs/Business section, but had no replies
As I commented in another thread, I have written a free website logging application, (in response to the requirements of the Computer Act which requires all hotels/internet cafes to log all websites that are visited by their customers).
This application is now being 'rolled out' nationwide.
One aspect of this application is that it installs a new toolbar on the browser, and this toolbar has 'quick-links' to various products and services that might be of interest to the user of the computer. So think of hotel bookings, tours, ringtones (for Thai users), football/sports items (probably for Thai users) etc etc.
So it's a win-win all round. The hotel gets it's free logging software, the computer user gets quick-links to useful websites, those websites get more business and I get some money! (maybe...)
Anyway, I want to include as many useful links as possible. But I only know of a few companies who offer affiliate (commission-based) programs!
So, if there are any TV members who operate businesses of this type - and who would be willing to give me a commission on sales if a sale results from clicking on one of my toolbar buttons (ie via affiliate ID), then please do PM me and I'd be happy to include a link to your website on this toolbar.
Cheers
Simon
Can you send me some more info please? What is the target audience for the toolbar (Thai/ Foreign), What your penetration has been so far (no. of downloads), privacy policy.
Once I know some of the above or more I may be able to help.
Thanks

Nice guy this Sondhi - He just told his supporters NOT to go home even if Samak resigns. He is demanding to know who the new PM will be before that, and that all his 5 demands are met (ex: 1: Take back the temple from Cambodia - probably WAR) I would suggest you all tune in to News 1 and try and find someone who can translate for you.
-
Wife said News 1 station just confirmed Samak is to resign, but she is not sure who is speaking (she is short sighted and watching through the web)
For those who can understand Thai, here is the channel http://www.maxnettv.tv/module_tvonlines/in...n=play&id=3

if this is true, I feel sorry for Samak as he didn't have enough time to make himself rich on the back of Thai people. On the other hand, I rejoice for the new PM (be it someone from PAD or another PPP or whoever, as they will most likely work very hard to "earn" a handsome sideline from the lovely Thai Tax Payer

Impact on tourism - 10% of tourists cancel a trip to Thailand in just 2 days!
Further to my previous post, I have had one more cancellation to thailand in my agency bringing the total to 8. Reuters reported a 10% cancellation world-wide in just 2 days!

The ultimate victim of all this .... the People of Thailand!

Foreign reaction: Travel bans, tourist fears
Here are some of the developments, closures and cancellations in the first hours on Tuesday after the imposition of emergency rule:
- Singapore and South Korea advised their citizens yesterday against non-essential travel to Thailand, raising concerns about further damage to the tourism economy. Australia and New Zealand, on the other hand, advised their citizens to "exercise a high degree of caution" if travelling to Thailand.
- The ratings agencies Standard & Poor's and Moody's Investors Service both issued statements warning that rising political tension could undermine Thailand's current investment-grade credit ratings.
- Two companies _ the mobile phone retailer Jay Mart and the building materials distributor Siam Global House _ said they would delay plans to list on the Stock Exchange of Thailand this year due to political uncertainties and market volatility.
- Local banks, including Bangkok Bank, Krung Thai Bank and Siam Commercial Bank, closed more than 20 branches in Bangkok around Ratchadamnoen Road for fear of violence in the area.
- ITU Telecom Asia 2008 was going ahead in Bangkok yesterday with no cancellations by the 179 exhibitors. "It's business as usual. Our business forums are fully attended by business executives and interested visitors," said Sanjay Acharya, chief of media relations of the International Telecommunications Union.
The four-day regional event is being held until Friday at Impact, Muang Thong Thani.
Mr Acharya said the telecom industry was beyond politics as the event was ultimately aimed at showcasing and promoting new technology.
But sources said there were few exhibitors from overseas except from NHK of Japan and a telecom operator from Russia. The atmosphere yesterday was quiet with few visitors.
The ICT had earlier targeted 20,000 visitors and three billion baht worth of business deals from the event.
- The Bank of Thailand said it had intervened in the foreign-exchange market to support the baht after the government declared emergency rule in the capital.
"The announcement [by Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej] has caused the baht to weaken and be volatile, so we had to step in and support the baht this morning," said deputy governor Atchana Waiquamdee.
The baht fell to 34.47 against the dollar in morning trade, from 34.32 on Monday.
- Thai Airways International, Thai AirAsia and Nok Air cancelled some flights out of Hat Yai where 500 protesters forced the airport to close again.
THAI cancelled two flights from Bangkok and Hat Yai due to the Hat Yai airport shutdown. The cancellations affected about 750 passengers, who were given refunds or allowed to change flights.
- International airlines operating through Suvarnabhumi Airport reported no cancellations or reductions, and normal passenger traffic flows. Security measures were upgraded. No sign of trouble was seen.
- Flight operations through Phuket and Krabi airports remained normal. Thai Airways flights were still operating according to schedules, no forced delays as threatened by TG union members.
- The German Embassy has called off a scheduled Sept 12 press conference on the visit to Thailand of Roland Koch, the Minister-President of Hessen state.

Abhisit looks fairly decent, and certainly an angel compared to the rest of the mob in Power/Protesting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abhisit_Vejjajiva
But does this guy have much support? Very little mention of him here as an alternative. Is there a reason why so few seem to support this guy? Does anyone know who's side (if any) he is on at the moment (PAD/PPP)?
-
I was refering to the comment about Cambodia.
Yeah I bet you do, another nice one that was a little bit PAD related don't you think. Of course to go further into that would be OT.
Beleive in me I am no supporter for PAD nor the PPP. If I had my way, I would ban the whole lot from politics/pressure group as they all hold criminal/ corruption records. Problem is I have no idea who could replace them!

This is really bad for the tourism , over here in Scandinavia its headline news on all the tv stations .
And even if its no danger to travel , this kind of news will make people here think twice about going to Thailand.
Especially families with kids , high season starts in 3 months so if this goes on I'm sure Thailand will suffer a lot....
Lets hope it will get back to normal soon.
It already has had a bad effect. I sell travel and already had 7 cancellations. 5 of which just happened today. Whats interesting is that 2 individuals also cancelled Cambodia because they are worried that if the PAD somehow manage to get into power, they might declare war on Cambodia
LOL ROFL
Not too funny if you are a low class Thai relying on tourist income to feed the family.
I was refering to the comment about Cambodia.
Speaking about tourist income...a light just came on....so many foreigners keep posting their ANTI-PAD rants here, which mostly are full of inaccuracy (with a few exceptions). Is their motive maybe, because they are loosing money? Bar owners, massage parlar owners, resort and guesthouse owners, travel businesses??? I couldn't figure out, why some of these posters almost seem to be foaming from the mouth, but it's starting to make sense now. Maybe it's because the protests are hurting their thick wallets? Maybe they are afraid that there servants and slave workforce might see the light and organize one day, demanding fair wages and benefits????
Just a thought ;-)
Appologies to you for my last post then. Thought you found the cancellations for Thailand funny. I wont go into the politics anywhere as I'm not informed enough about it, and reading through all the media just makes you wonder why anyone would side with either of the sides anyway. Once again, I apologise for my last post aimed at you

What is so funny? I sell fair trade travel, and my clients go to local people who desperatly need the tourists. 7 people cancelling (from my tiny agency alone!) is a massive blow to the local community where I send clients. As I just said, these 7 are just from my business. I am a tiny agency compared to the tens of thousands of agencies world-wide. If they have a fraction of cancellations, the true figure might be thousands of holidays to thailand (tens of millions of dollars to the economy) cancelled or postponed. 5% of thailands economy depends on tourism. Is that funny or are you one of those Farangs who completely desrespects the thai people and their culture and couldnt give a hoot of their suffering?

I don't live in Hat Yai (Indeed not even in Thailand) but my wife's family are from Sadao. Will be coming over to Hat Yai around January (I hope!) so if you want to meet up for a chat in English drop me a PM

Oh my god. This can't be good in the current climate. Bound to cause even more violence
Anti-PAD group builds stage at Sanam Luang
(BangkokPost.com) – Anti-People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) set its main stage on Sanam Luang on Saturday as a venue to express their disagreement with the PAD.
About 200 members of Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship (DAAD) wearing red shirts built the stage on the venue to prepare to show their opposition against the anti-government group.
Interested people walking pass by sign their names in support of the group

You are a unhappy person you like noboby you do not like Thaksin Samak or Sondhi or even Bush. I bet you do not like you mom or pop.
1. You are wrong, since I am a very happy person.
2. You're correct that I dislike the mentioned 4 people; they haven't been positive for this world.
3. My parents are both dead.
There is no need to drag my parents into your message; that's low and below the belt.
It shows you have no class, no style and no dignity and it also shows you're a miserable human being.
You can say about me whatever you want but I have NEVER dragged the parents of ANY member into a discussion.
That's sick.

Philstone, I don't post much here, and don't know anyone on this forum, but your post is very low, and immoral. Perhaps you should look yourself in the mirror before spitting venom. Mods, I think this guy should be booted out of here, as one of your own posts in this thread suggests (re Flaming and personal attacks).

While I'm at it - why don't thai people from both political divides protest with their corrupt parties, so that they are given
* A Health Service free of charge - (I'm not keen on the fact that my father in Law at the age of 71 still works so he can pay his hospital fees)
* Some form of pension scheme (see above).
Personally I think it is disgusting that elderly people are forced to work to buy their daily bread - and if they cannot tough luck! Shamefull!
-
Just a thought really. I'm not quite keen on either party. I think both should be sent to jail and forgotten. But with regards to Pallop I was wondering if there was any ground to arrest him, together with the other 9 PAD leaders on the basis of "Incitement to Violence". Surely there are grounds for that!

Probalby just means that they will attack in the middle of the night again.
Isn't it already middle of the night? I just love Thailand

Aye, she'll need separate visas for both Ireland and Spain. These should be obtained before she travels to the UK.
Scouse.
Hi, I have a friend here on holiday in Pattaya at the moment and he is also obtaining a Visitors Visa for his girlfriend to go to the UK and he has aked me about taking her on holiday to Ireland and Malta , can she not apply for Visas when in the UK from their embassies, and if she gets them in advance from Bangkok will she have to go for interviews and pay large amounts of Money for them or will the UK Visa make it easier.
Not sure about Ireland, but with regards Malta she won't be asked big sums of money. To my knowledge there are no interviews either. They might however, ask for proof that she may support herself while here, want to know where she is residing, have adequate travel insurance, and potentially a sponsor. If she is residing in Thailand, then she has to apply in BKK. If residing in the UK, then she has to apply in London. Take your flight ticket with you as a visa is ONLY issued when there is proof of a reservation (can be provisional) with a return flight to the country where she flew out from
-
I'm from Malta. I think the best bet is Emirates. They fly regularly and is the most direct (BKK - Dubai - Malta) not sure if they are star alliance, but if you travel to Malta at least once a year its probably worth cheking their skymiles program.

I used to work on this virus for a number of years as I was a Vet Nurse by proffession. Leptospirosis is a very serious and potentially lethal virus and you should be hospitalised immidiatly. One symptom is a yellowing of the skin and gums. Also, anyone looking after you should take precautions and use gloves before handling any Urine, Feces, Vomit or Blood as you can easily get this through body fluids. Please dont waste any more time on this forum and seek medical help now!

I think you will need to get the Visa from the Italian Embassy not the french. This is because, as far as I know, duration of stay takes precedence over country of entry. Also, you say you need to make sure you have your return ticket. You might be asked (Probably will be asked) to show where you will be staying (Hotel Provisional Bookings etc.) so its wise to take these with you. Visa is free for your wife if you are a EU national

Don't know about the US, but in the UK, 2nd hand increases in Value and no sign of it changing, and the same applies for the rest of Europe as far as I know. Its interesting to hear it doesnt in Thailand. So really, buying property is not an investment after all!Not in the US currently, not in the UK shortly, the verdict on property in Thailand - not the best! -
Thanks a million guys for your posts. Some very useful comments indeed. Sure, I will be working on the web for as long as I can. The reason why i started working on the web in the first place was to be free to move around the world, so i wont be letting that go. Its my daily bread and butter.
Comments about property being unstable etc are exactly mine. i never quite understood the concept of "second hand condos" as in the west it doesnt really make a difference, but from your comments, 2nd hand devalues? or am I missing something? Wife always says she doesnt want to live in a second hand house and I always found it amusing. but now, far from amusing, it seems it is actually dangerous to by a new condo if people dont want to buy second hands?

Actually they already did both the above - Around 2 weeks ago too!. I have a provisional booking to fly Malta - Bangkok on december 22nd with emirates. At time of booking it was 1480 Euro.
Last week Emirates was selling the same flight on the same date for 1260 Euro.
Today its 1340 Euro but what is interesting is that a section is now operated by Thai Airways (i.e. the airlines are so empty they have to combine flights)
