could you please name or explain the procedure you had, as i was not aware they could remove and replace a lens using laser, As far as i am aware a laser is only used to treat secondary cataract (capsulotomy), which after i had this procedure my eye sight returned to pre secondary cataract prescription

The old lens is normally removed using a small incision and then ultasound to break up the old lens ( phacoemulsification) or by a ( extracapsular cataract extraction) using a larger incision and removing the old lens in one piece, either way a new lens is then implanted.

The choice of lens makes a difference to any corrective glasses having to be used after the op, in my case the lens used resulted in my eye sight returning to pre op, pre cataract prescription.

If it's what I had, RLE, they use a laser to break the lens up. Had an interesting light show of points of light in a kind of Paisley pattern, ending with a translucent brown mush that used to be my lens. Could feel the heat, but it was bearable.

7 years later, this year, I wen't back and had the secondary cataract dealt with.

From age 5 until 46 I wore glasses and was terribly long sighted. ow at 53 I can see fine.

This was in Prague, so I can't help with a clinic.

  2. I went Thursday with the wife and they wouldn't see me without the letter. I don't have one because the Australian embassy have refused 3 times to issue one because I didn't arrive with an onward flight booked hence they don't consider me a tourist and don't care about the consequences for me. The immigration people told the wife it was easy and I should just ask for a letter. She naturally believed them and not me and we had a big row in the car park that passes for an office.

  3. I was using Linux mint from 2009 until a few weeks ago, but was having a lot of wifi issues on this PC. I installed Kubuntu, and find that I generally prefer how it feels, but still don't have reliable wifi.

Well done Liverpool, and well done Adrian. Chuffed for him.

I'm glad he's fallen on his feet. He was always popular with West Ham even though most of the time he was obviously not really up to it. The FA Cup penalty v Everton will long be remembered rather than the soft goals and defensive mix-ups...

  5. I helped my then gf get a visa and it was easy. She had no compelling reason to return, I just promised she would. She had no money, but I sponsored her. I live in the UK and have no assets in Australia. We're married now and I'm thinking of moving to Cairns in the next couple of years, so we'll see how easy a permanent visa is.

I seem to remember there was a text area where you could explain that you would need a multi entry visa.

  6. As a Bolton fan I used to bemoan those tactics when the useless midfield clogger Okocha lumped it forward to that carthorse of a centre-forward Djorkaeff. Anelka, Hierro, Campo, Gardner, Diouff, Speed and a few others were all rubbish too.

Good luck to Big Sam. He's going to win a lot of people over. He'll win matches when it matters and the football will be good too. He gets the best to produce their best. He's had to work with some poor teams and players over the years; he can now pick the very best available.

Good try but no. he'll go route one lump it upfield. Its what he knows and what he feels comfortable with. He has a great early '80's football brain.

The rest of europe just moved on.

In fairness, I don't think Sam has had anybody of quality to work with, so I suppose he has always been limited to route one. I think I'll reserve my judgement till I've seen how he sets up for the first few matches with players of a higher calibre.

in fairness as well it's him that's signed those players at the time. and him that's then coached them to lump it up at the big lad.

i think he'll probably do an alright job with england. i mean it's not like england fans actually expect the england team to play good, attractive football is it? last time they did that was about 1990.

Having watched West Ham during his time there, I don't think he's a long ball manager at all. However he is a bit limited tactically and we threw away a lot of points where he couldn't see the obvious and make changes.

We usually defended well and passed the ball around well, but only had one tactic in the last 3rd, which was to cross it. If we'd had Payet then instead of Matt Jarvis, it may have been a less frustrating time. Though I think had Payet been here, he would have sent him to France on loan and kept Nolan in the team.

His big downside though is his personality. He's very stubborn and doesn't care who he pisses off. So when he had 10,000 or so chanting "f off Sam Allardyce", he didn't care.

So he did a decent job and got us up and kept us up, but I don't know of anyone who wishes he was still with us.

For England, I think he'll bring Carroll back into the squad, and maybe Noble.

  7. all this talk is pretty cheap. I m different...clap2.gif Just booked my ticket to SGN.... That's the best argument when discussing the place smile.png In a few weeks I have all the authoritative updates on Pho, sidewalks, bathrooms, those traffic hassles, smelly backpackers, British girls with big butts and boobs down to their knees etc.

Another thing to check out is he attitude of vendors. I've hear they can be really obnoxious if you show interest, but don't buy..

Crossing the road is an interesting experience.. I noticed bikes give way/go around you, but cars (mostly SUVs) don't...

  8. hahaha....your jealousy is palpable. But i do understand why because the transition and speed of improvement on zero net spend must look daunting.

try not to get too down. smile.png

It's not jealousy, it's hatred. Spurs fans always think it's jealousy despite them not having much to be jealous of. Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd etc all have more to be jealous (or at least envious) of, and I'm indifferent to them.

Now, this year Leicester are to be envied. I hope they win the league, and wish it was us, despite not liking the way they played against us the other day.

  9. Come on you Spurs.

Never thought I would ever say that as a West Ham supporter.

Following the Leicester thugs attack on the West Ham owners and families in front of the so called Leicester security on Sunday.

Who wants this bunch of pikeys to win the BPL?

    Not me.

Oh come on! I can understand a little bitterness after Sunday. I often feel it. But I would rather WW3 break out than see Spurs win the title. That's an appalling thought.

Next season won't be much fun for you then. Not sure what you expect kane and Ali to be doing, but I've got a sneaking suspicion our goals plus will give you a clue biggrin.png .

Sent from my GT-I9000 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Spurs have been the best team in the league since christmas. Bar a nasty spate of injuries nothing suggests that will change what with other teams rebuilding, new management ect. Just seems logical in my book

Hopefully a big club will come in for Pochettino. Then you'll no doubt revert to type by replacing him with mediocrity.

  11. As he is Irish she would, once they were married, have been able to apply to live with him in the UK under the EEA regulations rather than the UK immigration rules (unless he has dual Irish/British nationality).

But applications for an EEA family permit should be made from outside the UK and until she had one and became ordinarily resident in the UK she would not be eligible for free at the point of use NHS treatment.

Such applications should also be resolved with the minimum of delay, so I cannot understand why she was unable to leave the UK for over two years.

Also, as she didn't become pregnant until she was in the UK she would still have been able to fly, and so leave the UK, when her 6 month visit visa expired.

I think your friend hasn't told you the full story.

Not that there is any reason why he should, of course.

I spoke to him tonight and I know he hasn't given me the full story.. He did mention EEA, but is very vague about whether she actually has it. She didn't leave because she would have trouble coming back in. But he is convinced she will have it by December and they are planning a trip to Thailand then.

  12. Ridiculous sending off of Vardy I thought. Not a penalty at the other end for West Ham. Bone headed Carroll saves the day.

I thought the yellow was right. He tried to con the ref and made it too obvious.

Both penalties were dubious, but Leicesters was a joke. Just evening up.

Vaedy went down pretty easy under contact but there was contact to be sure. For me a true dive warranting a booking in the area should be with next to no contact. Otherwise there's too much subjectivity involved and the price (particularly when you've already been booked) is too dear. I'd wager most refs would not have booked Vardy in that situation and been right in not doing so.

Just my take on it. I'm not supporting simulation, in the box or out.

He initiated the contact himself. He knew Ogbonna was there, so he swerved into him and tangled his legs up with him.

  14. Friend of mine took his Thai girl over on a 6 month tourist visa and got her knocked up.. When he tried to register her with the NHS, they wouldn't have it until he mentioned she was pregnant. Then they pulled out the stops and she got everything for free, even though she overstayed. He married her while she was still pregnant. The kid is about 15 months old now. She recently got her visa to stay in the UK so can go home for the first time in over 2 years.

As has been said many times in this topic, the NHS is not going to refuse treatment to anyone who needs it; no matter what their immigration status in the UK is.

What surprises me, though, is that she was not charged for the treatment, and that she was able to convert her tourist visa into settlement from inside the UK.

Could you tell us how she managed to do those two things; I'm sure it will be of great interest to others as Beano's friend's experience is the norm in such situations.

BTW the immigration status or nationality of the father is mostly irrelevant in this matter; except that if he is British then the child would also be British and so would not need any form of visa or leave to remain to stay in the UK..

The husband has an Irish passport but lives in the UK. I don't know the other answers and don't necessarily believe him. But I did go to the wedding, so I know at least that bit is legal.

Funnily enough I know of someone where the same thing happened, but things went the other way, she was actually told to leave the UK with her son, and has also received a lengthy ban.

    What was the father's status?
