From 28th May, Thai visas will only be available from the Embassy in Canberra or the Sydney Consulate. Honorary Consulates in Adelaide, Brisbane, Hobart, Melbourne and Perth will no longer be authorised to issue them.

Why are so many Christians to be found in the ranks of today’s conspiracy theorists? Just consider the popularity of a movement like QAnon — which claims that [redacted] is waging a secret war against “a worldwide cabal of Satan-worshipping paedophiles” — among evangelicals. As is apparent from the testimony of Lorrie Shock, the very language of evangelical Christianity is amenable to adherence to QAnon:

As churches prove 'fertile ground' for conspiracy theories, some pastors are taking a stand

Too many evangelical Christians fall for conspiracy theories online, and gullibility is not a virtue
What a lot of nonsense. I don't listen to extremists either, but many of those who don’t agree with the mainstream narrative are distinguished experts in the sciences and medicine. Religion has nothing to do with it.

Horrible deflection. War and military versus a pandemic and scientists. Wow...stunning.
Of course it isn't a defection. It's a textbook case of the mainstream media amplifying experts on one side, the side that happened to be wrong.
The results are well known.

I'll stick with the main stream scientists. I'm not interested in dissenting opinions that contradict what they say. Seems you're interested in finding info that contradicts lockdowns, mask wearing and social distancing?
From my link above.
Mainstream scientists are mainstream by virtue of amplification by the mainstream media. Your choice.

Perhaps you should read this. It contradicts these dissenting voices. Please, read these articles. I'll stick with the mainstream scientists.

Within weeks, an opposing group of experts, also numbering in the thousands, had put their names to the John Snow Memorandum. The document, named after one of epidemiology's greatest historical figures, defended the restrictions to slow the spread of SARS-CoV-2 as “essential to reduce mortality, prevent health-care services from being overwhelmed, and buy time to set up pandemic response systems to suppress transmission”. It described focused protection as “a dangerous fallacy unsupported by scientific evidence” and warned that “uncontrolled transmission in younger people risks significant morbidity and mortality across the whole population”.
There are indeed two groups, as you can see. The truth may lie somewhere between the two, as it usually does. In the middle, nearer one side, or nearer other. Who knows,?

Afraid to post links to prove this?
Of course not. There are various dissenting voices in the medical profession. Notable is this: the second group of scientists released a declaration while on a summit in Great Barrington.
Needless to say, despite the highly distinguished credentials of some of its authors and supporters, it was ignored and ridiculed by the media, the WHO and the like.
I respect your view, but there are other views that are also worth listening to.

2 groups? Really? Please enlighten us.
Well there you go. Thanks to the failures and bias of modern journalism, you're only aware of one group. There is another group, equally as distinguished that recognises the reality of Covid but refutes government reactions to it as a gross overreaction that is more lethal than the virus itself.

Sad times when people don't believe in scientists. Shows one of the big reasons we're in the mess we're in. And sad you'd trust an elected official instead of a scientist. I guess you also believe what that used car salesman told you?
Which set of scientists should we believe in then? In case you haven't been listening, there are two groups of them.

You too. Just you keep on following 'the science' if it comforts you, even though scientists disagree with each other and don't understand what effect their deductions have on society as a whole. In delegating decisions to scientists, politicians are guilty of dereliction of duty, lazy and useless as they are.

I haven't received a penny out of the UK ever since I left the place in 1988. I don't expect anything, and I don't pay tax there so why should I?
I've no idea why the US sends taxpayer's money to people who will use it to stimulate a foreign economy.

Surprised you get that in the UK with all the anti-racist sentiment over there these days.

Philippine food is vile. I wouldn't feed most of it to soi dogs.
Manila is also the armpit of South East Asia, an ugly and horrible place. There's absolutely nothing worth going there for.
Thailand beats the Philippines in every way I can think of, so long as you speak the lingo.

Covid hasn't been much of a problem due to the lock down of borders and internal lock downs during the past spikes. If rates were higher, you'd see mass graves and refrigerated trucks for the dead outside hospitals. Just like in Brazil. That's not happening here.
Believe this, and you'll believe anything.

Maybe limited testing is why Covid hasn't been much of a problem in Thailand. Should the West follow suit, one wonders?

For retirees, unless you're cashed up it's better to have a Plan B in case the visa rules change. That said, if you're old and broke there usually aren't any Plan B options available.
Always have much more money than you think you'll need, and allow for visa financial requirements doubling, or you might be better off at home. Thailand is no place to be if you're broke.

I was led to believe that as Naturalized Thais, we can't get assistance from our former embassies, US included.
You can only get UK consular assistance (for all it's worth) while in a country where you do not also hold citizenship. If you are a Thai citizen, you have no right to UK consular assistance while in Thailand, even if you are also a UK citizen.

Hanoi is OK. Saigon is a bit of a dump. Prefer the Thais to the Vietnamese, but all this is just my personal opinion.

Huh? You can't find hookers in Vietnam, so that's the only reason you stay in Thailand, even though you hate the place, to such an extent that a while back you were looking down on poverty stricken Thai families for allowing their daughters to do that kind of work?

Vietnam has great food, without the worry of how much chilli has been added.
As for manageable current account deficit, Thailand has record household debt.
Household debt at 80% of GDP, highest in 4 years and Thailand's economy set to shrink a record 8%
As for manufacturing in Thailand, Panasonic cut 800 jobs in Thailand and moved to Vietnam. Other companies are leaving Thailand as well.
As for agriculture, Vietnam overtook Thailand for rice exports.
As for health care, I would accept that is better in Thailand, but as more and more expats retire to Vietnam in the future, there will be international hospitals there on par with Thailand's.
As for respect or one's elders, Vietnam has the extended family model, so the respect is always there, but I am not sure how you are gauging that.
As for patriotism, the Vietnamese have won wars against the Chinese, French, and Americans, all on their own soil. What has Thailand done?
As for cohesive families, maybe you can comment on all the young Thai ladies sent to southern tourist areas to work in the sex trade.
if the list goes one, post some more examples of how well Thailand has been doing under a military dictatorship posing as a democracy.
So go and live in Vietnam then. Are you a masochist? What's stopping you?

Thai visas in Australia only available from Sydney and Canberra
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

But now it's just been made permanent, per an announcement by the Thai Ambassador to Australia on 8th April, quoting Article 2 and 30 of the Regulations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Governing the Appointment and Functions of Honorary Consular Officers - they will be prohibited from issuing visas to foreigners and legalising documents.
