  1. I was in BKK yesterday to do the conversion to NON O marriage and the requirement is minimum 15 days. I didn't get it by the way because there was one thing that my local immigration forgot to tell me to take, the wife!!!

They will not even consider the application if your wife is not present, the girl gave me a printed list of requirements that I had never seen before which includes a letter certifying marital status before getting married in Thailand and 4 wedding photos.

My choice now is to fly the whole family to BKK as we have no one to look after the kids or go to KL and get a 3 month visa which is what I should have done in the first place I guess.

BKK sounds like it's going in the "too hard" basket as well.

Good tip about the wife though!

  2. Similar to the post below about the consulate in Hull.

I went to the Thai Embassy in Manama, Bahrain today for what i thought would be a simple re-issue of my non-O marriage visa which I've had for 8 years. Took with me all the usual copies of the licence, ID card, passport etc...

I was told that as well as 800,000 baht in a Thai bank with monthly statements I also needed to produce a letter from the police letter showing no criminal record and a medical cert confirming I did not have various comminicable diseases!

Needless to say the visa was not granted.

  3. It's getting run down very quickly, I counted 18 treadmills yesterday with "out of order" stickers, the one I used had a dodgy belt that wont last long either.

The water fountains have all been turned off too, it doesn't bode well.

At least the punters seem to be trying to help the staff, I was in 3 times last week and each time the "tip box" had plenty in it.

  4. I need to ship some motorcycle forks to Australia to be modified and then returned to me in CM.

So I'm looking for a company that can handle this and all the paperwork when they return so that I'm no charged import tax.

Tried doing it myself last year and had to pay import tax on the returning forks even though they were bought in Thailand!

    Any recommendations?

  5. Question for you experienced e-bayers / Paypal users.

How can I link my buying account on Paypal (at SCB Sinagpore) to my newly set up selling account?

I am only offered 2 options when I want to add a bank account to receive funds, that is either an account in Thailand or the USA.

I want to be able to receive funds into the same PP account at SCB Singapore to keep things easier to manage but I cannot find a way to do this.

    Anybody able to help?

  6. There seems to be plenty of choice for pre-schoolers in CM

I can only comment on ABS in Saraphi where we send our 3.5 year old but he loves it.

    To answer you points:

    1. Fees are pricey for Thailand approx 25,000 per semester and their summer school prog is too expensive.

    2. Rooms are pretty small but overall facilities are OK

    3. Teaching quality hard to say, they have regular "meet the tecahers" days and they all seem to enjoy their work

    4. Lots of extra stuff offered, at a price of course!

    5. What's missing? Not sure, but they are very money concious indeed, like asking for fees for NEXT years 1st semester in September this year! A lot of parents had a whinge about that.

    6. I'm satisfied with ABS, the boy really looks forward to going and is always happy when we pick him up. The teachers are all very freindly and approachable, unlike some of the other schools we looked at. Apart from being a bit too mercenary they do a good job.

They put on regular shows where the kids sing and dance, thats a pretty nice touch too.

  7. I've used it for 3 months in Saraphi and its frustrating. 1,100 Baht per month for the 3MB package.

In the daytime its fine, I can download a movie at 350kbps, but for some reason around 6-7pm I get no connection at all until the next morning.

There customer service blows big time, I have complained at least 4 times and only once did we get a tech guy visit who said the connection was fine - which it is in daytime! Very odd.

Overall its hard to recommend them

  8. Yes this really is pot luck whether or not you attract their attention.

I've had expensive stuff sneak thru unmolested whilst other stuff has been hit with the full rate tax.

I recently sent some motorcycle forks from CM to Australia to be modified, but because I had not got a letter from customs PRIOR to sending them, I got hit with import tax when they were returned.

No amount of explaining or the DHL docket would help.
