Good Morning????
Any updates on applying for a 60-day extension at Chiang Mai Immigration?
-
Hi. Has anyone got any recent updates on getting an extension-of-stay because of Covid related reasons at Chiang Mai Immigration?

Have you asked Kerry ?
I have and they told me they've suspended all international services until further notice.

I would like to ship about 10 kg of clothing and other personal items to my sister who's working in Malaysia. Thai Post only offers EMS services to Malaysia now which is over my budget; they've suspended SAL and airmail. I don't need to have them delivered in a hurry. I would appreciate any suggestions that anyone might have. Thank you.

All went well at Chiang Mai immigration yesterday , thank you for your help.
Glad it went well for you. May I know what documents did they ask for and which office did you go to, the one at the airport or in Promenada?
When I went in October 2020, I was shuffled around between the two offices and they wanted a letter of support from my embassy and a TM30.

My friend went to the one near the airport yesterday and was asked for both a letter of support from his embassy AND evidence of flight cancellation. He didn't have either and was denied. Don't know if the situation has changed.

This is very strange. Chiang Mai is a major destination popular with tourists and expats so Chiang Mai Immigration should be aware of the latest directives coming from Bangkok. Immigration offices in Nakhon Nowhere are aware of the 60-day extension without the need for further documentation so this really doesn't make sense.
rob20, did they also ask you for evidence of flight cancellation and quote you a fee?

Hello, again. Has anyone been to the Chiang Mai immigration office recently to get their 60-day extension following the end of the amnesty on 31 Oct 2020? Any feedback?

Was this bar stool brigade chatter that you heard, or a confirmed report? It would be highly unusual as the extensions are processed and granted by BKK, that's why a 2 week 'under consideration' stamp is issued.
This happened to an acquaintance of mine. Chiang Mai Immigration unequivocally told him today, no embassy letter, no extension.

I've heard of someone being refused the 60-day extension by Chiang Mai Immigration and told to leave the country ASAP because he didn't have an embassy letter and evidence of flight cancellation. But not too clear about this guy's history; he seems to have been on a couple of visa runs and been staying in Thailand for six months or so before the lockdown in March. Now I'm worried as I'm supposed to go to Chiang Mai Immigration for my 60-day extension tomorrow. I arrived here a few days before the lockdown in March on a 30-day visa exempt and have been on amnesty since then. Might they deny me the extension?

It would be up to the officer doing it. The unknown factor is that you did not apply for a 30 day extension before September 26th. They may do the 30 days to November 30th and then you would go back for the 60 days in November.
That would be great as I don't intend to stay beyond 31 January 2021 and no point paying for four months when I only need three. Thanks, again!

You could apply for a 30 day or a 60 day extension. Not sure which one they will issue in your case.
Thanks for the prompt reply, ubonjoe. What would be the determining factor for getting a 30-day or 60-day extension you think?

Hi. I arrived in Thailand in March on a visa exempt. I got the visa exempt extended for 30 days in April before the amnesty was announced. Since then, I've been staying on amnesty which will end on 31 October. I would like to stay on until the New Year. I have an unused letter from my embassy in support of extending my visa had the amnesty not been extended beyond September 26, What should I do now - apply for the 60-day extension? I'm in Chiang Mai.
Thank you in advance.

It's almost 2 PM and there hasn't been an official announcement on the amnesty extension. I was planning to go to my local immigration office to extend my 30-day visa exempt this afternoon. My local immigration office announced last week that there would be no penalties if I were to apply to extend by today. I have a support letter from my embassy and a medical certificate stating why I couldn't fly out last week. Should I wait?

Thanks for your reply.????

Has anyone been to the Chiang Mai immigration office next to the airport in the last few days? Was it crowded?

Hello. I was scheduled to fly out of Thailand today but I'm having a high fever and a bad sore throat. I'm at the clinic now waiting to see the doctor. It's unlikely that I will be able to fly today.
The next flight to my destination is a week from now and I'm in Thailand under the visa amnesty. What should I do? I really had no intention of staying after the amnesty period.
I'm in Chiang Mai. Please help.
Thank you.

I'm not sure but isn't there an age cap for the education visa? You need to be under 55, if I'm not mistaken. I have no idea how old the OP is but as he's on a retirement visa I'm assuming he's over 50.

Hi. May I know if the Thai Airways office in the Old City is open or has it been closed permanently?
I've been trying to get a refund on my cancelled flight for ages and all the Thai Airways contact numbers online don't seem to work and they haven't replied to my emails.
I was thinking of going to the office later today if it's open.

Hi All
Is Ang Kaew open during this lockdown and is it safe to walk up Huay Kaew Road and jog around the reservoir just after sunrise? Any issues with stray dogs?

I took my phone to the Samsung Service Centre on Maneenoparat Road this afternoon and they are able to replace the broken power button but I have to wait until Tuesday as they have to order it from Bangkok (Monday is a public holiday). Meanwhile, they turned my phone on for me. ???? Really relieved.????
Thank you all who replied with useful suggestions. Really appreciated it.????

we use a very good small repair shop near Toyota Rich on the left on Superhighway just before Maya.
Turn immediately left after Rich into Taewan Road and head down to the end. On your right you will see AIS signage. This is the place. I think its thai name traslates as something like tiger jungle-not sure. Also not sure of covid opening hours but this is their phone:089 555 5001. zoom in on Google Maps and you will see a cell phone repair shop marked.
Best of luck. You dont want to be without a phone just now
Thanks for your suggestion. I will check it out tomorrow. If anyone has got any other suggestions, please let me know. I'm in the Old City.

How is the button broken. On most phones it's just a sliver of plastic or metal that 'presses' a micro-switch or bubble-switch on the circuit board.
That sliver of plastic and metal broke off. I can see the bubble/micro switch so if I can get that switch turned on even without a replacement power button, that would be great.

Most local phone shops that also do repairs should be able to fix it. Just need to find one that's open. They may even have the part already in stock. Otherwise they'll need to have the item posted to them to complete the repair.
Thanks for your prompt reply. Any suggestions of shops that might be open in Chiang Mai?

Yes, I went last Monday and it was a smooth, painless process. The only "special" document required was the TM30 and I used the one from the previous application. My application is under consideration and I have to go back next week to get my passport stamped.
