  1. When I switched on my PC this morning and tried to start an application that I use daily, it failed to connect to the net. Trying to browse to the vendors website the page was not displayed - error message: name not resolved. This indicated a DNS server issue. I looked at the router settings and noticed that the DNS server had been changed to 89.207.131.21  A quick search revealed this was the address of a known DNS Attack server.

I had to change all the DNS settings back to  google dns servers. I also changed the PC network adapter settings to use the same dns servers I set  and not the routers. In addition, I also changed the routers admin password just in case, and also the wan connection user name from a <deleted>**kuf*g (the asterisks replace other letters that you can probably guess). This user name has been reported by many people with hacked routers.

This is for information should anyone else have the same issues.

  2. Annoying is not the word. It is nothing to do with PC specs, it is the amount of adverts, especially the pop up that reloads every few seconds at the bottom right of the screen. I am out of here until the situation is rectified.

Or is it me? Have I spent too much time here and become accustomed to it all?

I do not think so. In the 'old' days most tourists from the West were sex tourists or fun loving party goers so I am led to believe ???? with loads of Baht for the Buck.  Now the Government are reducing the seedy side and trying to shift the incoming 'tourist' to a different type?  It's not going to work short time, oh i mean short term, perhaps never.

I am not a gossip monger..I was told this by someone who is in a position to know things.
The same person told me over 15 MONTHS ago about meetings being set up re healthcare insurance becoming mandatory

Sent from my SM-G7102 using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

I expected this as every contact with the UK embassy asked if I had health insurance, obviously a survey.

On the face of it, this looks EXTREMELY worrying for British retirees here. The irresponsible action of the British embassy in not confirming a retiree's income flow could be the death knell for many Brits here. Also, as far as I understand it, the British Government will not send pensions into a Thai bank account (only into a British one), and not every British bank will automatically forward a pension to a bank account in Thailand every month. Maybe I am wrong.

Perhaps it is not as bad as I fear. What do other members think?

I get my pension from the UK paid directly to Bangkok Bank and have done for years. I do not have a UK account. Another way is to open an account at the Bangkok Bank branch in London and put your pension in there, they will forward to a BBL Bangkok.
