One minute due to speculation, next not. The BoT are getting as bad as TAT.

Firstly, why is a tourism chief wearing a uniform, secondly does anyone believe a word TAT say?
They need to stop thinking that Chinese tourists are the best thing since sliced bread and take their blinkers off.
I know more than 39 westerners who used to spend way more than 400k when they used to visit as tourists. Me being one of them.

As for FX Reserves, that is a confusing concept, because it isn't as if those reserves are just sitting in a box somewhere. They're fungible and already placed somewhere at work. Most are funding the federal budget. They are not just available to be tossed at newly arisen problems.
So in other words they are not reserves?

What I cannot understand is why the 'stimulus' packages are so measly, especially as they say they have huge foreign currency reserves?

It is quite simple really. It is a matter of principle. The decent British people will not sit back and accept one rule for them and another rule for protesters and minority groups who can do anything they want. Very simple.

And, your report shows how influential news stories are on the general public and thus the amount of control those with control over the media have.
Too true, and not just in Thailand. They thrive on putting fear into the public as a means of control.

When I switched on my PC this morning and tried to start an application that I use daily, it failed to connect to the net. Trying to browse to the vendors website the page was not displayed - error message: name not resolved. This indicated a DNS server issue. I looked at the router settings and noticed that the DNS server had been changed to 89.207.131.21 A quick search revealed this was the address of a known DNS Attack server.
I had to change all the DNS settings back to google dns servers. I also changed the PC network adapter settings to use the same dns servers I set and not the routers. In addition, I also changed the routers admin password just in case, and also the wan connection user name from a <deleted>**kuf*g (the asterisks replace other letters that you can probably guess). This user name has been reported by many people with hacked routers.
This is for information should anyone else have the same issues.

Annoying is not the word. It is nothing to do with PC specs, it is the amount of adverts, especially the pop up that reloads every few seconds at the bottom right of the screen. I am out of here until the situation is rectified.

So what do these countries know, that we don't, if they are banning travel to Thailand?

I would argue that this is a major source of air pollution in Thailand - as usual everything here is done on the cheap
True, but the budget allocated is big! Where does it all go? 55555555555555

'Chiang mai News said the reality was that tourism in the north has been on a downward spiral since the coup of 2014.' Why is it that local people can see it but TAT cannot ? 555555, Relying on Chinese will not help the vast majority of locals.

5. The inspection of factories and the issuance of maintenance orders or prohibitions at factories emitting excessive pollution
I wonder where they will get dozens of qualified technicians from to do this? Or will it be someone driving by a factory to see if it is emitting black smoke?

Or is it me? Have I spent too much time here and become accustomed to it all?
I do not think so. In the 'old' days most tourists from the West were sex tourists or fun loving party goers so I am led to believe ???? with loads of Baht for the Buck. Now the Government are reducing the seedy side and trying to shift the incoming 'tourist' to a different type? It's not going to work short time, oh i mean short term, perhaps never.

Casinos next. Got to keep the Chinese happy.

The baht is rising again, lower the baht more tourists will show up.
This is correct no matter what some say. Yes, the rich don't need to worry to much about such things but average joe public considers it to be of significance. It is the average joe who comes or stays away because of cost and they do so in high numbers.

I am not a gossip monger..I was told this by someone who is in a position to know things.
The same person told me over 15 MONTHS ago about meetings being set up re healthcare insurance becoming mandatory
Sent from my SM-G7102 using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app
I expected this as every contact with the UK embassy asked if I had health insurance, obviously a survey.

Bangkok Bank in London does not offer retail bank accounts to private customers.
Well that must be a new rule of theirs as a few years ago it was possible if you had a bbl account at a Branch in Thailand.

On the face of it, this looks EXTREMELY worrying for British retirees here. The irresponsible action of the British embassy in not confirming a retiree's income flow could be the death knell for many Brits here. Also, as far as I understand it, the British Government will not send pensions into a Thai bank account (only into a British one), and not every British bank will automatically forward a pension to a bank account in Thailand every month. Maybe I am wrong.
Perhaps it is not as bad as I fear. What do other members think?
I get my pension from the UK paid directly to Bangkok Bank and have done for years. I do not have a UK account. Another way is to open an account at the Bangkok Bank branch in London and put your pension in there, they will forward to a BBL Bangkok.
