  1. I can tell you one thing from my point I've really enjoyed Wifi N, I only wish my mobile phones though had a new wifi chipset that would support 802.11 N instead of Wifi G.

What are you running on your phone that needs that kind of bandwidth? G is several times faster than any internet connection available in Thailand, unfortunately.

  2. If you check out my post with the google maps link a few posts up, you'll see there's a Ramkamhaeng University Pier that's just a short walk to Ramkamhaeng Rd. and the main entrance of the university.

  3. Just took a look at the actual "study" and found it leaves out too much information to be taken seriously.

It does not give any indication on the type or severity of service that was need with regards to each brand.

It could be that HP, who came in last, had a majority of issues with an LED for the caps lock key not working, while ASUS had failed CPU's, hard drives, and motherboards.

It could have been useful, but unfortunately it's nothing more than a marketing tool published by a 3rd party warranty company.

  4. VLC comes in a distant third to GOM Player and MPC IMO. GOM uses much less CPU resources to play high def video than VLC. In fact, when playing some Full HD content from my laptop to the TV, VLC just couldn't handle it while GOM was able to play it without a hiccup.

  5. A HD ready will blow away a FULL HD, you may need to get your eyesight checked.

I think you have that backwards, and besides, we're talking 32" here. If you can see the difference on a 32" TV from less that 12" I commend you on your eagle vision.

Regardless, for 27k vs 22k get the Full HD simply for the resale value alone. With 99% of people out there thinking they will see a difference on a 32" set (as is evidenced by this thread) then you're sure to have an easier time unloading it if the time comes.

I stand by what I said you said "A quality plasma HD Ready set @ 32" will blow away a 32" Full HD unit" How can hd ready 1366 x 768p be better than full HD 1920x1080p ?????? Have you tried reading text as a computer monitor on a hd ready and full HD, there is no comparison.

Nobody mentioned using the monitor for reading text. The OP wants to know if there is a difference with TV, DVD, etc., content. All of the replies said Full HD is so much better, but I'm saying that the quality of the image varies greatly from model to model to such an extent that Full HD vs HD Ready doesn't mean much. In the case of the OP, he's choosing between 2 models of the same brand, so there is likely not much of a difference in image quality to be concerned with, especially as the price difference is so small.

If the OP plans to use the TV as a 32" monitor and have it 12" from his face then 1920 is will obviously give more real estate than 1366, but the text will not be any more readable, just a bit smaller. Windows does quite well at rendering fonts. If you're sitting 2+ meters away from the TV, you'll likely find reading text at 1920 on a 32" TV is near impossible, except for people like you with eagle eyes. :) I find it hard on my 40" unit from such distances at 1920 unless using larger fonts.

I don't think there are many people that would claim a Full HD LCD produces a better quality image than a good 1366 plasma, even running 1920 source material. Not anyone that has actually seen both side by side at least.

  7. Guys, he's getting a 32" set. Unless he is sitting 7 inches away from the TV he will never notice the difference in quality between the HD Ready and Full HD units. I have a hard time seeing the difference with 46" units at more than a couple feet away.

My suggestion is to get the HD Ready set if it is a good deal cheaper AND the image quality is comparable to the Full HD set. A quality plasma HD Ready set @ 32" will blow away a 32" Full HD unit. At that size, and larger sizes as well, the quality of the picture and other features such as inputs & outputs is much more important than the resolution.

  8. Invites here as well. PM me your email address if you're interested.

It takes a while, up to a week, to receive your invite via email once I enter it.

Ditto on the only ask if you are a technophobe and are going to use it. The invites are very limited so please read up and watch the videos at the link posted above by GungaDin and see if it's something you'd actually be interested in using. You can only use it with other people who have a wave account (as far as I can tell) so don't expect much from it before you invite others.

  9. Thanks for the excellent feedback.

Travelers checks are probably the best route for my needs right now. - Anyone know if they should be declared when leaving / entering Thailand & USA?

Thanks for the tip about SuperRich1965. I'm thinking I'll check their rates against Bangkok Bank, and if the rates are close enough I'll just pay the 1% for the Amex travelers cheques.

FYI - when someone visited me from the US about 2 years ago they bought THB at JFK. Has this stopped, only available in international departures area, only sell and not buy, .... ?

  10. I believe the best price is directly from THNIC, who all other registrars have to use anyway if they want to register a co.th domain.

If you want a co.th, you will have to fax them some company documents since only Thai companies can own a co.th domain. Each Thai company can only own a single co.th domain, and it must have some relation to the name of the company or the type of business you are in or products you sell (i.e. the name you choose can be denied).

I've used them and they are professional. Don't know about reliable as I only use their web services to direct DNS request to my DNS servers.

    http://www.thnic.co.th/index.php?new_language=1

Edit: Apparently the domain name registration limits have changed. From their homepage:

The foreign company could register their trademark as the domain name as much as they own via the representative office in Thailand.

  11. I'd like to be able to make ATM withdrawals while in the US from my Kasikorn account using my Kasikorn ATM/Debit (Visa) card.

    Will this work?

Do different US banks charge different fees and give different exchange rates when using their ATM's, or is this all dependent upon what Kasikorn charges.

Are the current onshore/offshore rates about even? If not, which rates will be used when withdrawing from my Kasikorn account via an ATM in the US?

I'm wondering if it's worth bringing THB (cash) to the US and exchanging there, or depositing it into my Kasikorn account and withdrawing via ATM in the US. Obviously the ATM would be safer, but I don't want to get hit for lots of extra fees and bad exchange rates.

  12. These answers assume you are going for max upload speeds - this may slow your downloads a bit.

    1) Maximum upload rate

    0 (unlimited)

    2) Global maximum number of connections

    150

    3) Maximum number of connected peers per torrent

    75

    4) Number of upload slots

5 - 10 (per torrent - start with 5, raise if it you are not maxing out)

I did check uploading takes priority over downloading.......think that might have helped slightly

I change the settings all the time based on the torrents I have running and if I'm trying to maximize downloading single vs. multiple or uploading.

  13. One thing seems odd about TYT's set up: DHT, Local Peer Discover, Peer Exchange are not allowed. It is their "rule." Is this making uploading a problem?

This is because TYT is a private tracker. The flag in the torrent is set to private, and utorrent respects that flag which prevents you from advertising yourself as a peer to people who are not members of TYT. Only people who are registered with TYT can access the tracker and connect to peers. You register your IP with them when you log into their website to find/download torrent. This is how all private trackers work. If any torrent client is known to not respect that flag, the private trackers would prohibit use of that client on their network.

Didn't you state that a bandwidth test reported your line capable of 20KB/s max upstream? If that is the case than your speeds look fine. It's just your lack of understanding on how torrents work that is confusing you.

You will never have a good ratio or upload speed with TYT unless you start downloading the torrent very shortly after it is first posted.

  14. Are you using the default Zyxel router that True gave you? When I received mine from True it came miss configured and was a real pain to get running stable. If this is the way the ship all of their modem/routers I'm not surprised so many people complain... talk about non existent QA. Anyway, I got the Zyxel configured properly but it was always horrible with torrents and would crash with too many connections.

Solution: I purchased a Linksys WRT54GL, installed tomato firmware, configured the Zyxel for bridge mode, and it's been smooth sailing ever since. I can max out my True line with most any torrent with a decent number of seeds/peers. Obviously the more local peers the better, but I can always max out my line with several slower torrents.

  15. All in all I would NEVER use a system without RAID 0 again. The old argument disk failure? You have this problem with a non RAID setup too. And I always have a backup on external disks - bootable with the current OS. Almost a complete mirror. So what?

I think you'll find that you've jumped into RAID 0 with spindles at a time when SSD's have removed any need for these on desktops. While RAID 0 with spindles may still be useful for video editing, there's no reason to go that route anymore for everthing else. Who need's 1GB+ on their system partition? It's obviously cheaper to get 2x500GB drivers than 1x80GB SSD and 1X500GB spindle, but people spending money on RAID arrays for their home computer aren't usually concerned about a couple hundred dollars in the first place.

Glad to hear you've actually noticed a difference! In the past I've never experienced a real difference with desktop usage on RAID 0 setups, and that was with 15k SCSI and expensive controllers.

  16. Using a proxy is illegal in Thailand.

I'm pretty sure that using a proxy with the intention of accessing a site blocked by the government is illegal. I can't imagine how they would prove that in court though. Anyone know if it's been done?

  17. So she placed an add and on the 1st day she gets about 300 hit's , we were shocked . Then the next day we get 856 hit's

The number of hits you will get varies based upon what your selling, your target demographic, etc. It's easy to throw away money on online advertising if you don't know what you are doing, and it sounds like you don't. I've verified FB ad clicks using other statistics and the numbers were correct.

If you're serious about advertising online, and you don't have experience with it, you should get some help from someone who knows what they're doing so you're not just throwing money away.

  18. No fix as it's not included with home edition. All of the settings can be managed directly from the registry, though that's obviously not ideal. There might be some hacks out there to get it working.

  19. It's actually between $210 - $280 for the entire season or $70 per month.

    https://gamepass.nfl.com/nflgp/secure/registerform

This of course is not in a bar setting, but it's the best available to watch the any game from the entire season live or at any time you like IF you're internet connection can handle it. I've only tried the demo, so I'm not sure how well it deals with bandwidth, such as the quality varying, the video pausing for buffering, or both.

There is also a private tracker out there with NFL, CFL, and NCAA games, but you usually have to wait a day or 2 before most of them are available and the quality varies from bad VHS to HD.
