  1. One question I have been meaning to ask for a long time is what does this (for example) mean? AlbumArt_{D7B9D55D-1A4E-48AB-9B53-20A049738F07}_Large

Obviously its album art but why the special name? How is a file like that created? I have always just let MP11 find the album art or I have already saved it from a web site. is there any advantage to have that type of file?

    Curiously yours

    Bluebear.

  2. So, when we arrived in Amsterdam and then tried to get on our connecting flight back to Newcastle, the 'friendly' (cough) chaps on the baggage check informed us that we couldn't take the bottles through.............So, it was either drink the whole bloody lot and get on the plane trashed, or put the bottles in the bin for them to dispose of.

which screws up anyone not on a direct flight from their own airport. as many as 50% of travellers?

Are King Power now sealing bags when you buy liquids?
My mate had the same experience a few weeks ago. from what he was told a sealed bag would make no difference whatsoever!

Are Heathrow doing the same for domestic connections?

  3. Has anyone stayed there? Seems to hit the right buttons, reasonable balance of cost / location.

Also, whats the name of the ....ah hem..... other thaivisa site where we can talk about the fun night life? I cant remember it.

  4. Whats the best free automatic mp3 tagger. I tried fixtunes but it only works for 50 songs then you need to buy it :o

So something cheap ie free easy to use, corrects tags and imports album art automatically. Should be easy for you great minds!!

  5. Following on from the original subject of this post, I would like to give a few pieces of advice to perspective travellers, particularly the guy needing fluid for his contact lens':

    1. It is the physical BOTTLE that can not be bigger than 100ml. Simply taking a 250ml bottle and puring out 150ml, so that 100ml remains, is not sufficient and in all likelihood, the bottle will be siezed! At least this is the way they're definitely working it in Oz. So the heads up here, is to make sure your bottle itself is 100ml in size or less.

    2. On a recent flight from Thaland to Australia, via Singapore - knowing (or thinking) that liquids bought in duty free were exempt from this new rule, having a King Power duty free discount card, I purchased a 1 litre bottle of duty free alcohol at the airport in Thailand. I was only in transit in Singapore and did not go 'outside' of the transit / departure area. None the less, my bottle was siezed at the gate. After x-ray, seeing a bottle inside my carry on bag, I was sent to an extremely polite & very apologetic policeman, who advised me that it was ONLY duty free purchased in Singapore that was exempt! So, the golden rule now, is only to buy your bottles at the last airport before your final destination.

Yup. Its happening at Schipol as well. Mate of mine came through last week and got denied boarding the UK leg as he had duty free from BKK. totally screws up any savings you might make in cheap airports. It also screws up what you can buy and the price - inter EU passengers pay a different price and can only buy certain items compared to someone flying out of the EU.

    Totally crazy situation now.

  6. What happens to teachers with a fake degree if they are reported?

    1) nothing

    2) the contract isnt renewed

    3) they are asked to "leave" unofficially

    4) they are fired

    5) they are fired and threatened with arrest

    6) they are fired and threatened with arrest, deportation etc

    7) they are fired and threatened with arrest, deportation etc and the police notified

    8) they are fired and threatened with arrest, deportation etc and the police notified and actually arrested

add in witholding pay/bonuses etc to any or all of the above.

pick any of the above depending on how well the teacher gets on the with school / how desperate the school is for teachers / where the school is / if there are any side issues going on / is there is a new crackdown from a Ministry etc etc.

  7. My XP recently crashed and had to take it to a repair shop to try and save the OS and data. The data was saved but in repairing windows all the programs had to be reinstalled.

Now it seems that system idle constantly runs and is anything from 15% of CPU time up to 80%. is it just me or is this waaay too high. I dont remember seeing it that high before XP went down. Its also doesnt seem to be working as well as before ( got a laptop with Pentium M 1.6Gh and 512MG Ram. )

I am really tempted now I have a back up of all my data to put in the ACER recovery disk and reinstall XP and start again. Worth it?

    cheers

  8. If you go to MBK there are three or four good camera shops there including an official Nikon one. Off the top of my head, one on the ground floor and 3 on the 1st floor.

And if you pay cash you could get extra extra thrown in. Try Pantip as well, 1st floor and 2nd floor seemed to have the best deals when I was looking around.

Just remember smile, be jolly and treat it as a laugh not life and death and you may get a better deal than you think.

  9. Critics said THAI may have underestimated the impact of passenger connectivity to its business as statistics show that there are always passengers on every THAI domestic flight who need to transfer to international flights."

    DUH!!

its like BA thinking that it can move all international flights to Gatwick while all domestic still go to Heathrow. For an airline to split its flights like that scores a 1.2 out of 10 for intelligence.

I would hazard a guess that it effects more holiday makers from outside Thailand going to Chiang Mai /Phuket etc than locals.

  10. if you had followed the rules and regulation regarding the amount of cigs you could bring as posted by lomatopo above, you might not have run into that problem.

Same thought occurred to me. Amazing the number of people who complain about the corruption and lack of laws in LOS and then when they are applied they complain!

Duty free limits are there for a reason, its up to the traveller to make sure they comply or take the risk of being caught and facing the consequences.

  11. Inside in the code of Windows Vista and the ability to crack or hack it is extremely slim.....

The guys who say the guys in Panthip will figure it out, make me smile like I never did before. Guys let we also ask them to research into light speed engines for our space rockets... It is easier to ask Leonardo Devinci to tell use about Cold Fusion, or Sub Atomically partials, from which we have today little know-how.

hmm, do pigs fly where you come from? It never has been the guys in panthip that have done the actual cracking, they are only the distributors!

I would bet someone has ALREADY cracked it and within a week of the official release, you will get all the last minute features. All it takes is one hacker.

  12. If i have to,i will go out of my way to get a degree.Im not looking to retire in thailand.I am 23 years old for gods sake! Lets say i get this degree. All of a sudden do i become a wonder teacher? well? Give me a break.

Have you considered that the process of learning and aquiring more skills with a degree might make you a better teacher?

Have you considered that a degree may take you further in life than you can without a degree?

23 years old and you seem to know everything. What a great teacher you must be in all your subjects.

hmm, now that I think about it. you dont come from bournemouth do you?

  13. George wrote a lot of true stuff here

Well, what the hel_l! LOS makes it very easy to stay, just stick to the rules.

I had a company here and my proper work permit, and I was paying taxes. Now I am retired, and I got my proper retirement visa. Where is the problem? If anyone wants to stay here, (s)he should read the rules and decide if (s)he can accept it. If not, (s)he should stay where (s)he is. You always have the option to spend your holidays here.

    Thank you for your attention,

a happy guy from Phuket, who got no visa problems.

well whoop de ######ing whoop for you!

hope when you get into trouble you dont come calling for help!

The last 3 years I have had a WP with different places, not once has it taken less than 3 months, whcih makes me liable for arrest because I am working without a WP. So, tell me what should I do, go back to my own country to wait for it to sorted out and therefore not work for 3 months+ ? Risk arrest and a fine for my work? The number of schools that rule ######s up is somewhat large, even at the biggest international schools they rarely do it within 4 weeks.

And yes I am a teacher with a legit degree.
