Right. I meant to type 2,900.
Thanks again.

Thanks, Joe. Am I right in thinking that the extension and reentry permit would run me a total of 3,900 baht?

Hi all,
I have an interesting issue. My current nonO SE marriage visa expires on March 1st. My plan was to go to Savannakhet to get a new nonO ME visa. However, I have to take a business trip to south Africa at that time.
I will leave from bkk on Feb 27th, and return on Mar 6th. My new plan is to return on a 30-day visa exemption, then go to Savannakhet later in March.
I just want to make sure that I won't have a problem returning on the visa exemption. I've had no exemptions within the last 6 months and am an American.

She is Canadian, so a g7 nation. So that means that at a land border, she will get 30-day visa exempt stamp?
Is that now also extendable a further 30 days? Her return flight is in 6 weeks, so that would work perfect if that's the case.
We're in Chiang rai, so Mae sai would be convenient, but if that wouldn't work, what about Chiang khong?
Sorry for being out of touch with the current rules, but it has been quite a few years since I've done a border run.

Does anyone know what the current status of the visa on arrival is in Mae sai?
I have a friend who is finishing up the volunteer project she was working on. Her nonO volunteer visa will be up soon, but she wants to stick around to relax for a bit. She would rather not go make a tourist visa if she doesn't need to.

Look, I asked a question which was answered, so I'm going to leave this thread behind.
First, there is no need for the quotations around volunteers. They are volunteers, working with an officially registered foundation.Because I thought that with an non-O marriage visa, if you do the re-entry just before your visa expires, you get a new 90 days. Perhaps I'm wrong.
I've never tried to do that before.

"Volunteers" are not usually given Multi entry visas!
You are confusing very different visas .........................................
A single entry visa is valid for a single (ONE) entry only.
Second, I am not confusing the visas. I know they are different. That is why I am asking about it. I never said that there is a multi-entry volunteer visa. I have a lot of experience with nonB visas, but not much with the volunteer visas since I just joined the foundation about 4 months ago.

A "foundation" which clearly cannot supply the documentation required for an extension of stay to be granted.
There is no "volunteer" visa !

But before I go, I would like to say that there is no need for you to make implications about things you know nothing about. If you have nothing constructive/helpful to say, then just be quiet. Don't cast aspersions on others just because you have a bent view of the world.

If that's the way it is, then that's the way it is.
I'm just really trying to figure a way around dealing with CM immigration. They were extremely unreasonable.

It is more likely that the "foundation" has failed to provide adequate documentation for an extension of stay.
Have you asked CM what they require ?
Why do you feel it is necessary to add quotes around foundation?
And yes, I did ask exactly what was required. 3 times. Each time I came back it was something different. In the end, the extensions were obtained, but if there was any to avoid that, it would be preferable. Apparently there is not. So be it.

Thanks for answering, elviajero. Are you positive about that?

Hi everyone.
I want to ask if you are on a single entry non-O volunteer visa, and you get a re-entry permit, when you come back in, do they give you another 90 days, or do they only give you until the original date?
I am in charge of a group of volunteers who are coming to the end of their initial 90 days. For most of them, an additional 90 days would cover their stay. However, when our foundation recently was doing extensions for some volunteers, Chiang Mai immigration made some major problems, even though we are a fully registered foundation and the work permits were already obtained.
Thanks for any advice.

It is. The ngo is international and has been operating here for a number of years. However, we just got our official foundation status about 2 months ago. Which is just about the same time I joined up, meaning I was one of the first to get a non-O visa.

I agree. Definitely not impossible, but I just need to make sure my understanding is accurate. My visa needs to be extended at the end of the month, so we might not have time to get the approval yet. So I'm looking at a 90-day extension first, if I am not mistaken.

7. Only in the case of Criterion (3), the applicant must attach a letter of confirmation or request for a temporary stay issued by the head of a government agency equivalent to or higher than the departmental level or by the head of a state enterprise or by the head of another government agency relating to the organization."
Thanks for the answer, Joe. 1-6 are no problem. But #7 is just a bit confusing. Please let me know if I am interpreting it correctly. Here is my understanding:
In order to be issued a full 1-year extension, my ngo would need to get the head of a local government agency (maybe the MoE since my role involves training teachers?) to give me/the ngo their endorsement.
Without that, I would only be granted a series of 90-day extensions.
Am I reading that correctly?

Hi all,
I want to check what the required paperwork is to extend my non-O volunteer visa (in Chiang Mai).
My work permit will be ready for pick up next week. And as an aside, just want to say that the staff in the Chiang Mai work permit office were the most friendly and helpful I've encountered in my 14 years in the LOS.
Anyway, I asked our foundation's lawyer about the visa extension requirements, but haven't gotten an answer yet (I'm not particularly impressed by this guy). So if anyone has any experience with this, any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks for weighing in everyone. What I've found out is that while there is an actual procedure you're supposed to follow, each individual MoL office wants you to to it their way.
So I'm just going to stop in and ask them directly. Luckily, I live near the local office and I'm not under a time crunch (WP doesn't expire for 2 months).
When its done, I'll post what I had to do.

Thanks for the clarification, Joe. I've had my own WP/visa extended many times, but this is the first time I am taking care of it for someone else.
-
Thanks. The only thing that confuses me is that the WP.5 states that you have to submit the passport along with the application.
If you submit the passport to the MoL, then how can you apply for a visa extension at immigration?
-
Digital - So submit the WP renewal application (WP.5) first, then go to immigration and apply for the visa extension?
-
The teacher has a Work Permit already. She is coming up on the end of the first contract and the expiry date of the visa and WP.
So my question is, which should be applied for first, the extension of the visa or the renewal of the WP? I have seen it stated both ways on various websites.
-
Hi everyone,
At the end of the first year of work (for a teacher in this case), should the visa extension or the WP renewal be applied for first?
Thanks.
Extension of 30-day visa exemption
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
Hi all.
I am currently on a 30-day visa exemption which I have extended once for 30 days (expires may 4).
Was planning to go make a new non-O visa in savannakhet next week, but my wife has to have surgery, and I don't want to be gone that long next week.
So, I have 2 questions. Can I get another extension at immigration? I understand that if it's possible at all, it would only be an extension for 7 days.
Or, can I do a border crossing at Chiang Khong (because I'm in Chiang rai) to get another 30-day exemption stamp? The current visa exemption I'm on is the only one I've had in years. Before this, I was in a non-O visa.
US passport.
Thanks
