ONCE i aggreed to the operation, they did all kinds of exams on me, even HIV test, which i did not mind cause i am in good health. but one thing they never asked is my passport. believe it or not, but that's how it went - they never asked and never saw my passport. had they asked for it, i would show it. but they did not ask for my passport.

and than, i did saw a photo copy of my front passport page in my file, in the doctor hands.

now why would i lie about it? is it funny? is it exotic?

no, just interesting case that shows how our privacy is not protected.

I once (around 2014 or so) registered at Bangkok Christian Hospital and indeed I only had to fill a form and not provide any ID. Had I paid cash and not by card, I could have told them my name is Thaksin Shinawatra or similar.

I would not be surprised if Thai hospitals are connected to government agencies for security reasons. For example in case of an accident or emergency a victim (unconscious) may not have an ID with him/her but a mobile phone. Or if someone cannot / does not want to pay the the medical bills. The hospital staff could then check the number of the phone and identify him/her. Certainly a reason for concern in regards of privacy, but this is Thailand, after all.

"...guy named Jukkrit Ampai, at Easycom, located in Computer City Bldg"

Jukkrit is a gem! He replaced the hard drive and the keyboard on my old HP for under US$100, guaranteeing the hard drive for a year and the keyboard for six months. That laptop has worked like a charm ever since. Jukkrit did much the same for old computers belonging to three friends of mine, all of whom remain completely satisfied with his work. Quiet, unassuming, and utterly competent, this young man is a most reliable resource. I recommend him with confidence and without reservation...

is that guy still in business and at the same location?

Exchanging THB gives terrible rates in Indonesia. Better to change to USD or Euro first or get the IDR in Thailand (at specialized money changers like Super Rich).

The Superrich rates regarding IDR are not great too, the spread is almost same as when exchanging Baht in Bali at REPUTABLE changers - this is Bali's version of SUPERRICH. Trusted company, best to use their main branch or the large one at Jl. Kuta Raya

Flea pit... some truth in that and Aussies a big contributor to building that situation...

Girls, well one part of the Bali tourist industry is a role reversal; Japanese female teens and older woman and females from many countries going to Bali for the surfie gigolo boys. Takes all kinds in every country.

And many other flea pits: Pattaya, Phuket and more countries, foreign visitors big contributors to building the flea pit scenario.

Yes there are other areas of Indonesia which are worth visiting, Borobudur, Surabaya (but beware of crazy drivers) and lots more ...

If you had said Bandung or Semarang, I would have agreed.

But Surabaya ? LOL...... competing with Medan on the "Indonesia's most ugly and boring City" crown

  5. were your goods delivered from another country (e.g. China) ?

If delivered from within Thailand, I would always choose the "pay on delivery" option as this is the safest way to at least not lose money. Too many scammers out there. Since they are now part of Alibaba and not Rocket Internet, I don't trust lazada any longer. Their customer "service" has become abysmal

  6. As has been guessed earlier, UBER will most likely disappear from the Thai (and SEA) market soon, which means another monopoly will soon be reality - it already shows, as prices of GRAB have doubled in PTY in the past two weeks and there is ALWAYS the "fares are higher due to increased demand" pop-up appearing 24/7, no matter what day of the week or what time of the day in the past 2 weeks whenever I checked the fares (what costs 100 Baht on Uber costs now 180 Baht on GRAB).

I spent in Bali several months not long ago and would NEVER go back.

Overpriced shit hole, dirty and ugly beaches, a lot of locals who are mafia or dicks.

Vietnam and Thailand are much better.

it's obvious you have been visiting the wrong places then. In over 20 visits to Bali, I never had problems with "Mafia", and if you encounter "dicks" just walk past them and ignore them. If I had the option (Visa-wise), I would live there since a long time and not in TH. Admittedly the beaches are not great in Bali, but if you came to Bali for the beaches, you came to the wrong place anyway.

As it would happen, I just posted this in another thread:

Note that (3) above was today -- 12-January-2018 -- and an Immigrations Officer at Cholburi (Jomtien) Immigrations clearly advised the fellow, twice, that he needed to report after returning to Pattaya even if to the same address.

(PS:  Forum software was messing around with formatting of the quotes, so my apologies if there are huge gaps between paragraphs, or alternately, if there is no space between paragraphs.)

That's absolutely annoying indeed. The *&'#%&/$§% immi office really needs to clarify the requirements so that it does not become a (costly) lottery game for every foreign resident every time he/she shows up at the Jomtien office

I am planning on getting a double entry visa to China from Bangkok instead.  Ideally then get my employer to do the rest when I arrive there.

I think the 3/6 day plan is out the window.

If my WP is processed in time I may be able to apply for a Z visa from BKK.

Going to Chiang Mai for that purpose might well be worth the effort and extra cost, as those folks are a LOT more easy to deal with than the nasty Chinese embassy in BKK

And the answer is no.  Not in Pattaya. You do not have to report to your local immigration department after travelling abroad or travelling out of your province.

That is not 100% correct. For the most part of 2017, you definitely DID have to report your return to the regular registered address after having left the kingdom. In April 2017, I did exactly that, and was almost fined 4.000 Baht, because I only went to the Jomtien immi office 5 days after re-entering Thailand. But I had stayed in BKK a few days upon arrival and could produce an online reservation confirmation which was sufficient to avoid the fine.

But while waiting in line, I witnessed how others had to pay 4K Baht fine as they did NOT report their return within 24 hours. At that time, there was a huge sign at the entrance to that small section of the office, reading "Reporting return to the kingdom" so people knew where to queue.

As of 2018, this requirement has obviously been dropped (thankfully!). They may have realized they cannot handle the daily assault of "reporters" creating a chaos in that tiny sardine can part of the office every day.

I was one of the probably Thousands of Expats who returned to the country in the time frame of Dec 29 - Jan 2, when the immi offices were closed for five days. In order to keep my sheet at Thai immigration clean, I nevertheless showed up at the first day after re-opening on Jan 3 (and yes, it was not only a zoo, but the godfather of all zoos) and queued up at the information counter (the queue covered much of the parking area all the way to Soi 5).

When I finally reached the desk (Kudos to the immi folks as the queue really moved quickly, despite a lot of foreigner-morons who came completely unprepared or/and behaved improperly), the officer at that desk basically sent me away. I told him I want to "report my return to the old registered address after leaving the kingdom", he then said "ONE YEAR - NO PROBLEM" (referring to the one-year-extension-of-stay stamp I showed him in my passport). At the same time I noticed that the sign I saw in April 2017 leading to the small section of the office where those case were being processed had disappeared as well. So, as of now (of course as we know, things can change in Thailand every day without much prior announcement) there seems to be no more such reporting requirement, but there definitely was in much of 2017.

Would be interesting to learn how the situation is as of 2018 in offices that are known to be overly strict CM comes to my mind)

It is not closed at all over the Christmas period (except the weekend). Immigration will be closed January 1st and 2nd.

Are you sure it is closed on the 2nd, as this is a regular working day or not?

If so, that would mean a total chaos on the 3rd..... as all those who have been out of the country and returned on 29th of Dec up to 2nd of Jan (which includes myself) would have to do their "I am back to my regular address" reports on that day. Queuing will start by 6 am ?

I hope he is in a good hospital and has good, trusted and recommended physicians with the appropriate skills caring for him, otherwise, if he is fit for transport, consider taking him to a world-class facility such as Bumrungrad or maybe BNH (if they are well-equipped for his illness). Many recommendations for numerous excellent physicians can be found here on the board. Bumrungrad would be the no. 1 choice for me by any means.

    Good luck!

I want to buy using an online credit card, entropay. I don't think a shop will accept this. I see one for 24,800

Or the rise pink for 25k. Can a man but a pink phone?

actually you are not really buying from lazada, you are buying from a dealer that is completely unknown and anonymous to you and that dealer is using the lazada platform to sell things.

Lazada themselves rarely sell things in their own name nowadays, particularly since the Chinese took over from former European owners Rocket Internet. So it all depends if that dealer is reputable or not, but you have no option other than trust the few reviews which can be fake or real. Hence, cash on delivery is always your best option

Then you will really be surprised to learn that they ONLY issue one year multiple Non O-A visas

Single entry O-A's are a thing of the past

yes I am really surprised now. But that should actually be good news, no?

I would always have preferred to have such a multiple-entry non-O or non-B (as I had in the past), rather than a 1-year-extension of stay based on retirement or else.

What is the requirement as per 2017 to get such a multiple non-O-A ?

I shop regularly at Tesco mini marts in various locations .The custom  service at check outs is usually is very slow and unprofessional compared to the fast efficient service at most 7/11 stores. Anyone else notice the poor service .

Not only at Tesco Mini.... the large ones are often not better compared to their competitors.

Agree that the "seven" staff almost everywhere is spot on and capable of dealing with high customer traffic.

I've never used them before, but I have a 9 night reservation in Italy, for an apartment next month. I had paid in full and then I was contacted by the owner and said they (AIRBNB) forgot to charge 30 Euro cleaning fee. I responded no problem, but I looked closer at ad and they also mentioned any electric in excess of 15 euros, I would need to pay. So, I need to check the electric meter when I check-in and then when I checkout, if she adds an additional charge. She has agreed to pick me up at the airport & deliver me to a cruise ship at the end of the rental for 100 Euros, which is a good rate, so I'll pay her half for the airport and then the other half when she delivers me to the cruise ship. She seems to be an honest lady, so I'll go with flow and see what happens. It's still much cheaper than a hotel and I have a full kitchen and a  beautiful view of the Med.

airbnb does not "forget" to charge anything.

If something has not been charged, then it is because the owner of the unit did not properly maintain his/her listing and is most likely trying to impose other dubious fees and charges
