I believe that Thailand isn't 'foreigner friendly'. Furthermore, it is apparent that your stay in Thailand could at any time, without any reason, be revoked by the authorities, (if they so wished). Foreigners have almost no rights at all, and it is for this reason that you should be prepared to leave at a moments notice. Buying property, or investing is not advised, as this would also leave you both exposed and in many cases, falling foul to the Thai law if you were forced to suddenly leave.
Foreigners are generally looked upon by Thais as merely 'cash cows', and no more. Those thinking that they have any kind of recognized status will be somewhat disappointed. The laws which govern the country constantly change, (depending on the political climate at the time), and could be described as extremely xenophobic (discriminatory) towards foreigners, which in most 'civilized' countries would be classed as an infringement of your human rights.
The current trend in Thailand towards foreigners is very grim indeed. Recently, we have witnessed more stringent controls, on both movement, and other visa requirements, which were almost non-existent before. Therefore, if this behavior by the authorities continues, then it will become almost intolerable to live in Thailand as an expat.

Quote "Uncertainty in the global economy is to blame for lower exports" ... really? It wouldn't be due to the complete lack of competence of those in power.
You can manipulate the economy as much as you want, but it won't change the fact that the numbers speak for themselves. The problem squarely lies within, the lack of foresight, and complete disregard of the warning signs, have got you into this mess.
It's time to change, and bring the country to the 21st century. Putting the blame on others will not solve the problem.

Carry on with this policy and the economy will go down the drain. Exporters are already feeling the brunt of a drop in orders. It's almost common knowledge that the currency is being manipulated at the expense of everyone else. Household debt is at an all-time high, and banks are still lending out as if it was no tomorrow, Eventualy something will give. Another 1997 crash perhaps ?

Quote "I told him that is because the law in Thailand prohibits littering or drinking alcohol in public." .. really ? So all the bars that do business must also be illegal, since tourists drink openly in tourist spots across Thailand, and yet the law is not enforced. Seems very convenient for the law to be applied in some situations, and not others !

Those Lego kits have certainly got more advanced these days.

Shame the EU doesn't follow Thailand's lead on this one. Romanian begging is becoming a real issue, in every major town and city.

Out of all the articles this must be the most sickening. I hope the general will have the sense to round up all these so-called collectors, parade them on TV, and then throw them in jail. Thailand is supposed to be a Buddist country where all animals are sacred, but apparently not when there is baht to be made.

The General is certainly weeding out all the rubbish in Thai society, long may it continue.

I have never taken a taxi here nor will I. The prices they charge are criminal compared to other parts of Thailand, and there is no valid reason why this is so, except pure greed.
Corruption it seems is here to stay, everybody filling their pockets at the expense of both tourists and Phuketians. Shame on you all !

Thailand will be in denial until it's blue in the face.

Better for the government to reintroduce strict controls on lending. Raising the salaries from 300 baht per day upwards will cause the country to outprice itself out of the market. Inflation is already on the up. Exports will be effected, and companies considering to invest into Thailand will go elsewhere. Loss of jobs will follow, then the fun will really start.

Really needs an independant enquiry, as to how they got themselves into so much debt? Where has all the money gone ?
-
I think many don't pay their tax as they only see it as another expenditure that gains no benefit. Yet foreigners who make a salary in Thailand, pay more tax to government in proportion to a Thai, which is highly unfair given they don't get any benefit. No wonder people are relunctant to pay it !
-
A country always in denial, never accepting that standards here are incredibly low. Time to change your arrogant ways, or pay the price.

Having dispensed with the other tourists, Thailand knows where it's bread is buttered. India is the next place to tap into. It's a huge market, and the fastest growing economy in the world. Seems their loyalty only lies in their pockets.

I don't think Universal Pictures and United International Pictures (Fareast) will pay up, as the contract is between Sahamongkol Film International Co. Ltd and Tatchakorn Yeerum. The only ones to lose out with be the movie-goers in Thailand. 1.6 billion compensation, what planet are they on?

Just wondering how you would rehabilitate a snake? Are there support groups for Cobras these days?
"Hello my name is 'hissing sid', and I'm a cobra !

Whenever there is money to be made, rest-assured there always be a middle man (parasite) feeding off the others.

Most of Thailand is controlled by the Chinese so I'm betting Thailand will hand them over to China. China always gets it's own way, and yes it doesn't like minorities/foreigners. Never have I seen such widespread xenophobic legislation against foreigners as Thailand, no doubt steered by those that are of Chinese descent.

You can't compare the two. Lee Kuan Yen and Taksin, they are like chalk and cheese.

So if you were on a motorway (non pedestrians) in any country, would you let them out to walk the rest if the passenger requested it?

Another example of Thainess. When you think you've seen it all, then this.

Out of all the crimes that go on, this must be one of the most disgusting of them all. Those responsible must be imprisoned for life. Those countries that failt to protect wildlife especially endangered animals, must also be punished by sanctions, and anything else that will deter this odious trade ! Thailand must start to get it's act sorted out or face the consequences.

Amazing .. when it effects Thais then something is done. When piracy only involves foreign content no problem, carry-on as usual !

No it doesn't work like that. The official definition of work is quote,
"WORK : the engagement in work by exerting energy or using knowledge for purpose of obtaining wages or other benefits"
